Excellent location, overlooking river and lock, good walks along river and to local village. Some pitches look directly over river, you can launch own boat from site for a small fee and also fish from site. Never used toilet or showers as we have own facilities in our caravan.

Owners of the site and the cafe/bar very friendly and accommodating our little girl was rushed into hospital and they helped to look after our dogs and unit whilst we were in and out of hospital. Will definitely be returning soon.

We just got home from a great 2 nights at this site. We where met with a smile and shown the facilities on the way to the pitch. We where in the 'main camping field'. On arrival there was just 3 other tents in the field and we had no problem finding a spot for the tent. Quite even ground other than the dip for the sluice gate run off.

The site has obviously had a lot of money spent on it recently, new fencing and gates round all the fields, lovely wet rooms and loos that where spotless. Even a decent 20p operate hair drier!

The showers are 1 for 20, bit of a waste for me as I had no other female who could nip in after me. I can just about drag out 10 mins! The entry to the showers/loos is by number entry system now, no key fobs, but you do have to remember the number at 3am (not an easy task!) Our field was a fair walk from the loos so I had to ask my son well in advance if he needed to go!

We didn't use the cafe bar but it did look good, lovely views over the river and lock.

The main field is a bit cut off by the mound (flood defences) between it and the electric field.

Long walk to the loos

The main field has the flood gate entering it with a ditch for water to get to the flood plain. There was stagnate water by the gates and also a small stream running through a fenced off area in the middle of the field. Obviously that means flies and mozzies! Take you spray for the tent and yourself as we had hundreds of flies sharing the tent!

We will be returning, but maybe next time we will have a riverside pitch not the main field. My 5 year old loved it, we did too so a HIT! oh and only 15 a night !

Just returned from a fantastic weekend at Linton Lock Marina. We camped with friends and between us had five children from 8 yrs to 14 yrs and one dog!

The location of this site is second to none being right on the river bank and within easy travelling distance of York and the surrounding Yorkshire countryside.

We had 2 electric hook-up pitches in the main field which essentially gave us a whole corner that easily accommodated our two large tents (Tigris 800 and Royal Pescara 8) and although away from the river side of the field we still had great views. We stayed for 2 nights and used 2 of electricity (bought as 2 x 1 cards). Not a lot when the cost of the pitch was only 18 per night. You also have to pay for the shower at 1 a time but you get loads of time and enough for the the kids to follow you in.

We tried the bar and, as with the rest of the site and staff, found it to be extremely friendly. Didn't try the famous chilli beef nachos but did see someone trying them and they were very complimentary of them.

We walked into Newton on Ouse along the public footpath across the fields alongside the river and found 2 great pubs, the Dawney Arms, which has a fantastic beer garden out back and the Blacksmiths Arms opposite the church, which did great bar food.

Downsides to the site were really only linked to the toilet and washing facilities. The toilets and showers are a bit of a stroll from the main field and the dish-washing facilities likewise (although there is a sink and cold tap in the main field).

That said, the toilets and showers were always spotless and given there are only 2 showers none of our party had to queue to use them. (Perhaps the owners could install a portaloo closer to the main field for emergency use?)

And, apart from fishing on the riverbank there's not a great deal for the kids to do on site.

So, whilst we were lucky enough to have had probably the best weekend so far this year to be camping, which meant the walk to the toilets wasn't too inconvenient, we would still recommend this site regardless of the weather and will definitely be going back.

We have just returned from this site having booked late Thursday Night.

The biggest thing for us was the price to stay - I like that the tariffs for camping are clear & easy to understand on the website and you don't have to pay too many extras for this that and the other!

They were very friendly on the phone, gave us our pick of the camping field / river view field and we camped Friday / Saturday (only 3 tents in this field during our stay but all seemed like regulars!). But the Riverview Field looked fairly busy. When we arrived they showed us around and took us to the Camping field & gave us our pick of pitches.

There are 2 male & 2Female toilets and 2 male & 2Female wetrooms with lovely hot water! Cost of showers 1. For 20mins which wasn't a problem.

All brand new and very clean. The pot wash is in between the mens / womens shower blocks, but did run out of hot water, & nowhere to drain the dishes - this may be something to look at.

Beautiful site - very family orientated & the camping field suited us down to the ground as all fenced in and the kids(age3&5) could play freely. But this did mean a little extra to walk to the toilets (but not too far!). If you have young children I personally would stick to the Camping Field as the Riverview Field as the name suggests is right next to the river!

The bar/cafe onsite was very good, open 9am to 9pm food lovely, they did daily specials & quite happy to do a food takeaway. The food & drinks were all reasonably priced & staff very friendly.

Beautiful area - we used the park&ride to go to York so a great location for exploring. There's a local shop in 5/10mins walk & a few pubs 1mile up the road in Linton on Ouse.

No play area on site, but we took things for them to play with as you can visit a park any day. If needed there is a play area in the playing fields just up the road in Newton on Ouse - turn left just out of the village signed to Tollerton. We found out about this as there was a family fun day.

There's also a farm shop at Benningborough Hall who do some divine home reared Aberdeen Angus Burgers!

You can fish on site & there are plenty of boats to watch pass by. We also made a squirrel friend! Seems a good area to go with bikes - lots of people out riding them as its all very flat. There is apparently a Tesco somewhere within 20 mins drive but we managed with Farm & Local shop.

We almost don't want to review as it seems like a quiet little secret & we will definitely be returning to this site with friends in the next few weeks - weather permitting!

6 Berth tent(large) 3 Children 3 Adults. Paid 15. 00pn. 2. 50pn extra for the extra adult but considering cost of stay still very cheap!

Hello, just returned from a lovely weekend at Linton Lock, (think we have dried out now)

This is a lovely site, very picturesque, we got a river view pitch number 17, which for us was perfect as we were able to sit outside out tent (and just inside it when the heavens opened) and watch the boats go by, the beautiful kingfisher diving down and other wildlife.

The on site cafe/pub had a very friendly and relaxed feel to it, and lovely home made chips, and yummy cheese garlic bread! we had breakfast on our leaving morning (while we waited for the rain to ease to drop our tent) it was all very nice.

The site shower/toilet block was very clean and fresh, had to queue for a few minutes for a shower, as only 2 showers, but this wasn't a major deal for us. And well worth the 1 charge for 20 minutes of hot water, me and my 2 girls all showered for 1.

Perfect rural location far enough away from york to feel like you are on holiday, but close enough to visit the city for a day.

We opted for the park and ride which was 10 minutes drive from the site and cost 2.30 per adult return into york (kids under 16 travel free!) so I think was loads cheaper than trying to find inner city parking.

We can highly recommend The York Dungeons although a little pricey was really good fun.

All in All a very good site, we are already planning when we can re-visit for another weekend to fish during open season

Owners were very friendly and helpful both when booking and when on the site.

The site is a mix of seasonal and touring pitches. The tourers getting the better option as far as views are concerned.

1.The toilet facilities, one gents for the whole site is not really adequate.

2.The entrance and office area was a little tired. Some work on improving these areas would go a long way to improve the impression when first arriving.

Good points.

1.The wonderful setting. Our pitch (15) especially, had fantastic views up and down the river.

2.Linton on Ouse is pretty village with regular bus links to york, only 30 mins away. Beningborough Hall 10 mins away

3. The pub on the site is very friendly and serves great meals. Homemade chips, proper homemade and lightly battered onion rings. Despite the nachos not being on the Good Friday menu they produced some specially for me. ( I had seen a previous review and they were indeed as lovely as described.)

All in all a great site, if they could manage to reproduce the fabulous weather every time I would be back every weekend.

Spent the Easter Bank Holiday weekend at this site with my husband and 2 children.

The site is in a lovely location and the view over the river Ouse is beautiful. The facilities are excellent and very clean, staff are also friendly and helpful.

The children loved watching the boats pass through the lock whilst the grown ups were able to enjoy a few drinks at the pub.

The site is a short drive away from York city centre so we were also able to do some sight seeing.

We all had a wonderful time and will definitely visit this site again.

We found this site quite dissapointing and expensive for what it was. The pitch was 15.00 +vat then extra for electric hook up bringing it to 20.00 a night.

The toilet block was ok for the male (but only one toilet, so there was a queue on a morning) but the ladies wasn't very clean and pretty old and shabby.

The grass on the pitch could have done with cutting as it was pretty long and wet. All in all not a site that we will be visiting again

We wanted the experience of travelling over the wooden toll bridge, so travelled into Linton from the opposite direction to that recommended. The warden helped us out with a longer EHU cable, so that we could pitch up alongside the river. Had a lovely meal in the on site cafe, homemade chips, what a treat!

The lock itself is undergoing extensive restoration, hardstanding pitches are not available, as they are being used by the waterways staff. My husband said the gents facilities were good, but the ladies are still awaiting renovation. The warden did say they are in the midst of updating and enhancing the site.

Overall a little gem, quiet, peaceful and very friendly staff.

What a lovely campsite. Could not have asked for a more picuresque spot. The site has all the facilities you could require. Gents toilet block is spot on although the girlfriend daid the ladies are a bit dated but are in the process of being done up. The pup on site does the best Chilli Nachos I've ever tasted. A the Geordie Landlord even told us the secret ingredient. All the staff made us feel really welcome and were very helpful. Bus stop at the entrance to the site makes access to York a short 30 min bus ride away at 4.40 return it beats paying for parking. Enjoyed our stay so much we stayed an extra night and will definitely be going back again next Year.

Thanks to all who made our stay a pleasant one.
