Myself, my husband and our small dog stayed on this site over the weekend- Friday night, Saturday night and into Sunday morning.

I found the site to be more than adequate and there seems to be a lot of improvements going on.

The bathrooms are basic but clean and they are in the process of being updated. The plans for the updated block appear to be very impressive and will move the toilet block standard to beyond par.

The site location is beautiful and just far enough away from the main roads and towns to make it quiet.

A trip into York took us no more that 10 minutes in the car and the local village including the shop is within walking distance.

There are a couple of dog walks which we didn't take advantage of but lots of people did.

The site has an old lock building which has been converted to include a small restaurant and bar with optional outside seating.

Dogs aren't allowed in to the site building, which isn't unusual, but if you're like us and don't like to leave the dog in the caravan then just ask them to do you some take away.

The staff were very friendly and helpful.

I have no doubt we will return during the fishing season for the sites excellent fishing facilities and during the fruit picking season as it is in close proximity to the strawberry fields in sessay.

Arrived for a 2 night stay over the august bank holiday weekend, on arriving the owner phil took us to our pitch a very helpful man and asked us if we wanted a hand moving our folding caravan into place.

There is a small licensed cafe/pub right next to the lock which on a summers night would be a lovely spot to have a drink and watch the sun go down, I dint eat in the cafe so I can't comment on the food.

The toilets are about 5 mins walk away and could do with upgrading it cost 60p for the showers.

The camping area was a little cramped together, good value for money only paid 42 pound for a 2 night stay and over a bank holiday I will return again maybe in a couple of years.

4 tents + gazebo at the beginning of August. Great location although the field we were in didn't have a lock view.

Toilet block is adequate, although there are plans to upgrade these.

On site Pub is right next to the lock so a great place to have a beer and watch the boating activity - you can even help with the lock operation if you're that way inclined. Snacks/meals were also available. Pub only has basic drinks selection and service is slow at busy times.

Staff are helpful, but keen for you not to drive your vehicle near to the marina.

Great walk into the nearby village of Newton with 2 great pubs (especially the Dawnay Arms - fantastic food). Also, worth a drive to the farm shop at Beningbrough Hall - on the edge of Newton but a long walk through the grounds.

Local shop in Linton has everything you need

Stayed here 5 times this year and still want to go back. Lovely small quiet site. Usually, the only noise you hear is the River Ouse flowing by. Phil the site owner is a helpful friendly guy. Cafe/Bar is pleasant, would recommend scampi and chips. Lovely this summer sat by the lock with a drink in one hand and a book in the other. Dogs are welcome. Shower/toilet block is basis, but there are plans to improve. Showers are 1 and you get plenty of time to shower and wash your hair

Nearest shop is about 3/4 mile away, it is approx 9 miles to York.

There is a bus stop outside the site that runs to York, it only seems to run every 2 hours.

I love this site hence returning so many times.

Just returned from a weekend away at this site and will be going back to it fantastic location. There's a bar with a cafe that used to be the lock house, great prices and didn't fell ripped off. My kids found the lock amazing. The site is between two villages that are within walking distance with great pubs, york is only 10 miles away.

Ok the toilets are a bit run down but they are cleaned and the showers are spot on, all in all one hell of a camp site.

I would just like to add my two penneth, the site is really scenic and well tucked away. It is really idyllic to sit outside the cafe/bar and watch the boats go through the lock.

The only real downside is the toilet and shower facilities which have been well commented on in the above reviews. Even though they are waiting for the relevant planning permission to re-build the toilet block they could be cleaned better and are well out of sorts. Having said that it didn't ruin our two night stay there. The washing up area consists of an old sink in the field with only a cold tap to tackle your greasy bbq plates etc, not ideal.

When the sun shines though this is truly a wonderful part of Yorkshire.

We were slightly worried upon arrival when told that the previous week the river had risen so fast that the camping field was three foot under water! but this is the river Ouse and york that we are talking about.

The cafe does decent grub and if you like a drink they have john smith smooth and fosters lager on tap(other stuff in bottles or cans)

By the way if you like bitter the john's is amongst the best I have sampled.

Taking into account the toilets and showers(1 per go!) and the cold water washing up facilities it is still a really nice place to be and the people working there that weekend were super friendly. Don't just take my word though go for yourself and add your own review then more happy campers like us can organise their next trip out based upon these honest reviews on here.

We visited this site for the first time last week and found a gem the owners are friendly and helpful the site is in a great location on a working lock with great views of countryside. The site is kept clean and tidy at all time by a tireless crew taps and hook up points in abundance very near to York and surrounding areas. There is a local village shop a bit pricey but okay for fresh bread, milk and newspapers. There is a super little pub on site so we found no need to check out the others in the area. It has been mentioned in previous reviews that the shower and toilet block are in need of a refurb whilst I agree with this there are plans in for a modernisation but alas in the lap of the gods(council planning dept) We are looking forward to the next time we have booked to return in early august for a relaxing break

Excellent campsite. Beautiful location. Toilet block was basic but clean with fab showers. The cafe was outstanding. We had the Full English Breakfast and it was lovely. They catered for my 3 year old serving her food on a childs plate with childs cutlery. Only down side I thought they could have had a child play area maybe? Would definitely go again!

Recently tried more than 40 sites for the Bank Holiday weekend and managed to get in at Linton Lock. What a lovely site it is, nestling between two villages, Linton on Ouse and Newton on Ouse (both of which can be reached either by road or a pleasant walk through the fields).
We were told by a local that the chef in the Daunay pub in the village of Newton was taught by Marco Pierre White, no less, and that the food was 'to die for'.
The site sits at the juncture of a canal and the River Ouse, with a working lock just in front of the cafe / bar where people could sit outside and watch the boats and barges make their way through the lock gates.
We were given a nice welcome on arrival and the people working in the bar and cafe were very friendly. The shower / toilet facilities were basic but I understand that they are waiting for planning permission to do a refit. We will certainly be visiting again.

We were desperately looking around the internet for a last minute booking at any North Yorkshire site for Spring Bank Weekend, but realized we had left it a little too late.

Then we came across this one, it was to be our last chance, luckily someone had cancelled, and we were in.

The best move we made. We found it easily, Phil was very friendly, he even helped us manoeuvre our van into the pitch and gave us a run down on what there was on offer on and around the site.

My two boys were overjoyed when they realised the site was on a marina with a working Lock, and were even happier when they could even help in operating the Lock from time to time with the canal travellers, they have already told me they want to be regular visitors to this site.

The site was clean and tidy, and Phil was usually around somewhere if we wanted any help or advice.

We can't wait to go again.
