We have just spent 3 nights at this site. It's OK but nothing to shout about. Good views along the coast to Lundy Island from these very exposed pitches. You can walk down a footpath from the site to Hartland quay & pub but the walk back is a bit of a hike. Overall it is ok for for a short stay but I don't think we'll be back because of its remote location (not much fun in motorhome on very narrow roads)
Very nice family-run, farm-based site. Both sets of facilities very clean although the facilities at the entrance to the site need updating. We visited before the school holidays, and like a lot of sites, I feel the facilities would get very busy during holiday times. The camp shop had essentials and the fresh bread baked daily on site was a real bonus. Hartland Quay is a short walk away, and the pub served good food with generous portions.
We have just returned from a one week holiday at Stoke Barton. It was our first visit to the site and overall we had a great time but I am going to be honest about the positives and negatives.
Positives
We were there during school holidays and paid less than £200, had plenty of space and the site was definitely not full.
From our pitch we could see the sea, hear the sheep and had no road noise so it felt very relaxing.
The walks from the campsite to the pub, Docton Mill and just along the coastal path are fabulous.
The homemade scones and fresh bread are brilliant.
Negatives
We had 2 days of bad weather at the start and due to the location the site got hit by high winds. We were fine in our caravan and awning with storm straps but other people in tents had damage to their equipment.
The children's playground could do with some renovating. Installing a proper park area would give the kids somewhere to all play together. This wasn't a huge problem for us as my boys just played around our caravan with each other.
There is only 1 shower block near the farm house and for us on our field this was a good 5 minute walk. There were 3 showers and I never had to queue. The showers are push button so got annoying when I was mid washing hair and had to keep finding the button.
Lastly the biggest problem for us (and probably the reason we won't return) was the road into the village / campsite. There is nothing the owners can do about this but for us the last 3 miles whilst pulling a caravan was very stressful. The roads are so narrow that if you meet another vehicle it is very hard to manoeuvre past. Not quite sure what would happen if you met a caravan going the other way.
Overall though it is a super site, especially if you are camping so have no caravan to pull along the narrow lanes.
First, the site manager and staff were all great and very friendly. We have a folding camper and other family in a tent so didn't use the facilities very much but they were always clean and well presented. The field has a gentle slope but is well maintained and open, with sheltering hedges. The site and surroundings are quiet, although we went out of school holidays. As others have mentioned the access is pretty bumpy but we coped fine and it isn't a very long distance.
The site has wonderful panoramic views of the sea but beware, it is quite exposed and can get windy. Colin wasn't there when we pitched but would we have taken advice - maybe not? We chose an exposed spot (for the view) and our tent suffered for it, so do listen to their advice on pitches! On the plus side, Colin placed a stored caravan in front of the tent as a very effective windbreak!
There is a site shop, but you need to order fresh produce the day before - so didn't suit our spontaneous style. But it has a range of basic tins/packets etc. , if you are stuck. Sadly, the tea room has closed.
There is a lovely walk to Hartland Quay, although the food at the pub there is fairly average and expensive. DON'T drive there as they charge you just to use the road! We also walked across to Blackpool Mill and the views are stunning. Loved the Hart Inn in Hartland.
Stayed for a single night when I was hiking along the south west coast path. This is a really nice site on a working farm, with great views overlooking the sea and surrounding countryside. The toilet block seems to be pretty new and was very clean. There are several huge grassy fields, along with a hiker's area, on site shop open in the morning and evening, laundry, freezer, tourist info, mobile/device charging - all the usual stuff. The owner was very friendly. Hartland Quay with its hotel and bar is just a short walk away, either down the lane or there's a more scenic sign-posted route across the farm's own fields. Hartland village is about a mile inland and has pubs, shops, and a cafe. Would be great to return for a family holiday in the summer.
Award-winning camping and glamping on the edge of Dartmoor National Park near Tavistock, Devon. 40 grass and hardstanding pitches for tents, touring caravans and motorhomes with optional electric hook-ups. Choose between the scenic Daffodil Field with moorland views or the sheltered old walled garden. For those preferring a bit more comfort, the park provides camping pods and mega pods.
Immaculate facilities with free hot showers, toilets, hairdryers, underfloor heating, laundry, dishwashing, games room, small shop, WIFI and playground. The onsite manor house hosts a dog-friendly restaurant and bar serving evening meals. Surrounded by mature woodlands with direct access to Dartmoor, with Tavistocks amenities just a short drive away. Perfect spot to explore Devon and Cornwall's main attractions Find out more here
Didn't have long to create a proper impression of the site as we were there for a short stay which was cut shorter due to some not so great weather. The site was easy enough to find, albeit down some winding narrow roads (which was expected).
The owners were very friendly and helpful and can't be praised enough. The site is a farm and the camping part seemed to comprise 2 large fields and 2 small fields. Nice kids play area with a section for football with proper goalposts. Small basic shop in farmhouse for essentials open twice a day.
Being on the coast it was fairly exposed and open to the elements, especially wind which was our big problem. Views out to sea from field with play area were breathtaking, as they were from above the cliffs and rocky beach.
I'd love to go back to this site but having young family need some settled weather to make it an enjoyable experience. Last week in August not the best time for that I suppose and we're not hardened campers.
We've just got back from 9 nights at Stoke Barton Farm, we had a brilliant time, the site is lovely & spacious, with beautiful sea views, there's also a play area for children in one of the fields. The toilets/showers were always clean and there's a well stocked shop on site, the homemade cakes, pasties & quiche were delicious!
It's in an ideal location for exploring North Devon, with Clovelly & Bideford close by and the closest place to join the Tarka Trail for cycling is at Bideford.
We'll definitely stay again next time we travel to Devon.
We stayed at Stoke Barton farm for 7 nights (booked 9) in August. It's in a nice location with sea views from some of the unsheltered pitches. The facilities are very basic with only 4 toilets and showers per gender. Queuing was never a problem however, despite the site being full. The showers are very small, with no control over temperature, and the scalding hot water was too much for our 5 year old. The shop is open for a few hours a day with some basic essentials and a load of old clothes for sale! Nearest shop is in Hartland (1. 5 miles). The tourists are not very cycle friendly in their X5's etc, so we tended to walk or drive everywhere. The walks are very nice with fantastic views, but that is really all this place has going for it. We won't return. Unless you get very lucky with the weather the campsite gets battered by the wind. It's not family friendly at all, with a small playground made up of what looks like donated argos garden amusements. Given the size of the site, improvements to the showers should be top priority. One family wash room with controllable water temperature would make a big difference.
Great site, easy access to the South West Coast Path and a pleasant walk down to Hartland Quay which is beautiful with some amazing rock formations. Parts of the site windy but if you choose your spot carefully it's not a problem. I won't repeat all that's been said about the facilities, they are perfectly adequate and always clean when I used them. Bit of a walk to get to the showers but no problem for me. Fridge and freezer for campers' use, along with a couple of microwaves and a kettle which is a nice touch if you just want to heat up a ready meal instead of cooking. Thought the site was very good value for money. I'll definitely be back!
We can completely and unhesitatingly recommend Stoke Barton as a campsite, a location and a holiday destination. The farm is wonderfully placed in a completely unspoilt part of Glorious North Devon. The team in charge run it unobtrusively with excellent services and friendly management. The local area gives you one of the most iconic sea views, pub, quay, walks, lighthouses, rocky beaches, magnificent weather which you can enjoy.
The actual camp site is spacious and peaceful. Views are stunning and you won't want to go home!
Love it to bits……we'll be back! Thanks Helen and Colin!

Just spent a perfect week camping at Stoke Barton farm, the views from the hay meadow over the sea are so unspeakably gorgeous that I suspect they may actually increase life expectancy. The facilities were great - loos, showers, laundry and washing up areas were all clean, well maintained, a pleasure to use. The owners were really welcoming and relaxed, encouraging us to choose to pitch wherever we wanted and Colin was keen to reassure us that if the large group camping in the same meadow as us were a noise nuisance he would deal with it - there was so much space between us that there was very little chance of any disturbance and actually, they were no bother at all.
The play area looked so good that we're planning to return with those of our children's friends that we like so they can go trampoline-crazy while we sit in the sun listening to the larks and quaffing cider. The farm shop on site is small and perfectly stocked with lovely local produce - bacon, eggs (sold individually), fudge, honey, what else could you possibly want? The walk down from the campsite to Hartland Quay is a sequence of some of the most beautiful vistas imaginable and offers the reward of a crab sandwich and pint by the sea while watching peregrine falcons swooping down from the cliffs. This campsite has gone straight in to the top 3 all time favourite campsites for us, exactly which ranking remains the subject of cheerfully heated debate.
We loved this site, the location is stunning. Short walk to Hartland Point with a nice pub with good food. Amenities only a short drive for corner shop etc.
The facilities are, rustic. I choose my word carefully because I don't want to give a poor impression, the washing up and toilets area was brilliant (in the fields). The showers, are a converted farm building and very rustic, but theyre clean, functional, what more do you need!
Price was not the cheapest we stopped at that summer, but reasonable.
The lady and the bloke (and the dogs!) were lovely, there only one reason, ive given this an overall of 8/10 and not 9 or 10/10 and that's the little passive aggressive signs everywhere.
'Paper towels are for your hands, not for flushing down the loos'.
'The electrics are working fine! Weve had an electrician check them. The reason they blow is people using non camping appliances!'
'Even on the website they state do not send credit card details in an email (IT DOES HAPPEN!)'
I can be quite blunt and to the point, but it just comes across as rude and passive aggressive.
Brilliant site for the kids, with football pitch and wide open space that's easy to give them freedom, whilst knowing theyre safe.
We visited this campsite as a last minute visit during half term due to great weather. I phoned up in advance to check there was space and found the owners to be very friendly and welcoming. When we arrived, we were greeted warmly and told where to find a pitch (although it is your choice where to pick). We found a great spot in the field with the play area. Lovely generous pitches with plenty of space. The centre of the field is left free as a meadow so there is plenty of space to run around and beautiful sea views from every pitch. There were other fields, some of which had electric hook up. We don't use electric so went in the field without it.
The children loved the play area, it had a large trampoline, several slides, swings and seesaws. Also a large football area with 2 goals. Our 4 and 5 year olds spent most of our 3 days on it, having a wonderful time and making friends.
The facilities were very clean and well maintained. There was what seemed to be a new block in our field with just 2 toilets and a small washing up area. Just cold water but very clean and with solar fairy lights at night. There was then a larger toilet block with more washing up facilities in the next field (not a long walk) which was very clean and tidy every time I visited. We were very happy with them. We didn't get round to visiting the showers on this trip. There was a barn with freezers/fridges in it and plenty of information about local things to do.
The campsite shop was large and reasonably priced, open for a couple of hours in the morning and in the evening. Campfires are allowed on site but only in a brazier. That's fine, we hired one from the owners for only £1. 50 and a sack of wood for £5 and had a lovely fire in the evening looking out to sea. The immediate surrounding village of Stoke Barton didn't seem to have much in it (although it is very pretty) but it is a short drive to Hartland which has various supplies shops and a good chippy. From the campsite you can walk down to the coastal path, which was stunning. We also walked to Hartland Quay (only a 20 minute walk, even with children) for an icecream and a bit of a splash in the sea. There's a pub there and another shop.
Overall, we were very impressed and will definitely be back. A little slice of heaven. It is a very relaxed campsite in a beautiful spot. There are rules, but nothing taxing. Excellent for families. Everyone was very friendly and you could see the place being looked after.
Greeted by a nice friendly chap called Colin, who showed us some pitch options and moved a stored caravan so that we could position our camper where we wanted. This is a big site, comprising several fields, but tents and vans are only situated around the sides of the fields so that the middle is left free for games etc
The campsite is kept very clean by Colin's daughter whose name I cannot remember, but she was also very friendly and helpful just like her dad.
Well stocked shop, sold yummy cakes! And some nice secondhand items - bought a lovely salad bowl! We had to queue once for the showers whilst we were there, which I don't think was a hardship. Ran out of hot water for dishes a couple of times, but we just went back again later. You are able to use their freezers for ice packs and there are fridges for chilling food and wine etc.
Walked out to Hartland Point and into Hartland Village while we were there and drove to Bideford and visited Clovelly.
No light pollution in the area which as I have said within other reviews is important to us as we like to sit out and look at the stars. We used fire logs (Poundland sell them) on our bbq which was raised off the ground in the evenings and they were happy for us to do that - next best thing to a campfire.
Other campers were very friendly and we would recommend this site to anyone visiting the area.
Upon entering the camp we made our way to the reception area and was greeted by Colin, who was the site owner, he was a happy, easy going man, who showed us to our pitch, gave us some helpful advise about setting up our tent, due to the wind coming in off the coast. We set up our tent on which isn't a pitch as such, as nothing is marked out, which is just the way we like it! The camp site is pretty easy to find, and well equipped with sinks to wash up, showers and toilets. We were there at the carnival weekend and apparently the site was packed! but my goodness the space my 4 boys had to play was just unbelievable to say it was packed! the site is just massive, and so family friendly. The showers did get a little cooler as the camp filled up with campers, but this didn't bother us. There is freezers' and a fridge in the barn for campers to use. If your lucky, there are Swallow's nesting in the barn and you see them darting in and out feeding there babies in the nest, such a lovely sight for children to see. The facilities on site were spotless, I think I counted them being cleaned 3/4 times a days. The camp owner gives children a ride on the back of his quad bike to go and see the animal's in the fields only for about 15 minutes but my two boys loved it.
Such a wonderful camp site, in a splendid location over looking Lundy Island, and a short walk to the quay, where there's a small sandy beach with great rock pools for the children and a pub which accepts dog for the adults, but dogs aren't allowed on the beach. A site which me and my family will look forward to returning to.
