We stayed for 3 nights with two young children (3&7). The information and booking process was very straight forward.
On arrival we were escorted to the field and given a few options of where to pitch our tent (in the vicinity of the electricity points) by Martin? Who was very friendly and happy to help.
The campsite itself is fantastic with an enormous amount of space for the kids to run around and make as much noise as they wanted without fear of upsetting anyone else.
The scenery is amazingly beautiful. The site is on a costal walk, and is only twenty minutes (with kids) away from the quay which has a museum, shop and pub / hotel etc.
The toilet and washup block in the field we stayed in we're very clean and are adequate for a field that size. There is a bit of a walk to the showers depending on where in the site you are. They may be basic, but do the job.
The on site shop sold more things than you could think you would ever need, but end up finding essential!
We went to the 'milky way' for the day when the weather was less than great. I would definitely recommend it for under 10s. There is more to do there than you can possibly achieve in one day, but well worth the try. The soft play area is designed so the adults can take part too, so it's fun for all the family.
We will definitely be back to the camp site, and will be there for longer next time. Keep up the good work!
I stayed here the week before the school holidays began and the weather was stunning. Together with such a lovely site, it made for a wonderful week away and I actually stayed one day longer than planned due to that. The site is just the type that I love - un-regimented without being anarchic. The showers and toilets were very clean and good to use with no charge.
I was lucky to get a sea view from my campervan with electric hook up and in the evening saw the sun going down from my van.
There is a small eclectic shop on the site that is open twice a day and I bought a local walking map from there for £2. I was really looking for an ordnance survey map but this turned out to be a really good buy - it had lots of little bits of extra info that you don't get on an OS map.
There is a lovely walk into Hartland which follows a stream and ends up at one of the nice pubs there.
The site is good for dogs as there is a beautiful wild flower meadow just next to the camping field and then on from there are walks along the coastal path.
I would not recommend eating at the pub at the Hartland Quay however as my one dinner there was microwaved to death.
I would totally recommend this site and will definitely stay again if I am back in this area.
This is one of our favourite sites. The owners are always friendly and knowledgeable. The pitches are sited in huge fields looking out to sea and even though we needed EHU, we were allowed to pitch pretty much where we wanted (within the constraints of our electric lead!). Owners are very relaxed and happy for you set up camp however you like ie. Doesn't matter which way your caravan faces and put up awning / windbreaks etc as you like.
Facilities are always clean. Showers in the converted old animal sheds are a bit basic but are very clean with plentiful hot water. Whole feel of the site is relaxed and inviting with farm dogs and cats wandering around with the campers.
The coast path is a short walk away over a field. We walked to the pub at Hartland Quay for dinner which was very nice and a lovely walk back to the site in the evening sunshine. We also walked along the coastpath to Clovelly. Clovelly was well worth a visit, especially as the sun was beaming down. We had a fantastic lunch in the Tea Room at the lower end of the village and spent time fussing the donkeys!
In summary, Stoke Barton Farm is in an excellent location for walking, cycling and sight-seeing. It has a truly relaxed, inviting feel and we always feel refreshed after a visit. Looking forward to another visit soon.
Highly recommend this campsite near Clovelly. It was good to have so much room, having previously been at sites where guy ropes overlapped. The toilet block was immaculate and kept so by the campers, it seemed to be just as clean and tidy at the end of the day as immediately after cleaning. The shower block was further away near the farmhouse, in the old milking parlour, but the ladies was generally sized and convenient but the gents not as well planned.
The owners would like to build a more convenient block but do not actually own the land so have not been able to. The camping fields are very flat and the grass short and green.
The family were friendly and helpful, the farmer came round as we were packing the tent and thanked us for staying.
They deserve to do very well. Don't go if you are looking for organised entertainment but if you want a traditional farm site, very clean and well organised this is ideal.
We stumbled across this site when we visited Hartland Point while on our way up from Newquay. We only stayed overnight so didn't explore fully but we were both impressed enough to make a note of it for a longer stay in the near future.
We paid £12 for a non electric grass pitch for the van and two people which we thought was quite reasonable after having been in Newquay!
We were directed to the middle of the 3 camping fields, easily as big as 3/4 football pitches so had plenty of space. There's a toilet block in the corner of the field with a washing up area in the same block and chemical waste point and fresh water close by. They pipe radio 2 into the toilet area which made an unusual change. The shower block was located away from the field and in a converted building close to the farmhouse. We can't comment on the showers as we were going swimming so didn't use them.
We were told that there was a kettle and microwave oven available for us to use if we needed them and there was a shop open for a couple of hours in the morning selling local produce.
There's a play area for the kids which had a trampoline, a couple of slides and some other equipment set up next to a football pitch with goal nets in the third field.
I found the access road to the camping field a bit rough and more suited to a 4x4 than our camper with it's low profile wide tyres. But, it's a working farm and maybe we expect too much.
Overall, what it may lack in bells and whistles it makes up for with loads of open space, a sea view and glorious sunsets. We'll be back
This award winning Adults Only campsite has a working 17th century watermill in a peaceful wooded valley within the Exmoor National Park. Grass and hardstanding pitches, all set beside the River Exe or the sparkling mill stream, with electric, water, drainage, and TV hook-ups. A leisurely stroll up to a weir, and an area where dogs may run free and splash in the river.
Facilities include the beautiful dog walk, free wifi, fishing, modern toilet and shower block, dog wash, working watermill (tours on most Sunday mornings), salmon pass on the weir, shop, bus service, and excellent pubs in the locality. The site has beautiful views, an abundance of wildlife and many footpaths leading directly to the Exmoor woodlands and rivers. Find out more here
Stayed here last week and will be returning for a few days next week. Stunning location (especially when the sun shines) with views over the rolling hills of North Devon and out to sea and Lundy Island with the tower of St Nectan's church dominating the Stoke skyline.
Pro's - location, plenty of space, welcoming owners, toilet and washing facilities in main field, the Kings Arm's pub in Hartland (great pint!)
Con's the men's showers could do with a makeover and shower facilities added to the toilets in the main field would be a distinct advantage, the driveway to the fields is a little rough - ok in a land rover but take it slowly in anything else.
Don't let the con's over shadow the pro's - this is definitely a place that I hope to return to
We had a brilliant four night stay here just over a week ago. The owners are really helpful, there is a very useful shop on site, the toilets and showers are extremely clean and there is even a microwave and kettle for campers’ use along with a large fridge and large chest freezer. There are no pitches as such, just acres and acres of space.
The local area is very pretty, we walked to the beach at Hartland Quay which is interesting although sadly it wasn’t very warm! We wouldn’t recommend the pub at Hartland Quay as even the cheesy chips were bad, however a trip to the museum was good.
We also walked over to the gardens at Docton Mill where we had the most amazing cream tea. Another good walk, although a little longer is along the coastal path to the lighthouse and back via Hartland Village.
We’ll definitely return to this campsite and would thoroughly recommend it.
A lovely camp site on a working farm. We went when the site was very quiet and practically empty. Amenities on site are good, we were in the main field with a toilet block and washing up facilities. Toilets were spotless. Showers were hot but are located near the reception. Little shop was very good. There is a barn where you can freeze your ice blocks or a fridge and a freezer to store you food/milk etc which is free of charge.
While we were there the weather was quite changeable, sun one min and then sea fog. Loads of walks near by and there is a pub down near the beach with spectacular views of the Atlantic. On a clear day you can see Lundy Island.
The nearest supermarket was a bit of a drive but we found an Asda and a Morrison's in Bideford as well as the nearest petrol station. Bude isn't so far away but there are lots of little beaches that you fall upon by accident up and down the main road from the campsite.
On site my O2 phone couldn't get a signal but my husbands 3 phone did, and the TV ariel wouldn't work but some caravans did get a TV signal who were in different parts of the site.
Lastly the owners are brilliant. Very helpful and always said hello and would help you if needed.
If your very active then this is the perfect site for you but also perfect is you want to relax.
Lots of places to visit near by. This is a site I'll visit again.
A nice away from it all site set in beautiful wildflower meadows rarely seen these days. We were allocated a pitch in the main field which suited us but could be a problem for some people in bad weather as block with toilets and basins and washing up and water and waste water were quite a hike across the field so would say make sure you get nearer that block if necessary for you. Only used site showers twice as right at entrance to site and an even longer trek but that was a small thing as such a nice site otherwise. Lovely sunsets can be enjoyed around the camp fire, and so peaceful. Nice short grass walk across fields to Hartland Quay and a great little play area with super trampoline in corner of one field. All in all a charming spacious site with friendly relaxed owners who have taken the time to make a lovely place to be shared and enjoyed by lots of happy campers.
We stayed at this site to walk the South West Coast path which it is ideally positioned to do. The bus stop is about 1. 5 miles away in Hartland village, and the walk to get there is along lanes, but this was not as problematic as we had originally imagined as on a weekday morning there was not too much traffic.
We arrived after a wet spell and the camping fields were wet and very muddy in places. Our comment as with the majority of the campsites we stay at are that the facilities would be under a lot of pressure if the site was full, but whilst we were there we didn’t have to queue for anything and there is soap and paper towels/driers in the toilets, there are also power points in the toilets for hairdryers etc which are free, which is good.
There is also a small shop which is open twice a day selling essentials, and camp freezer, fridge and microwave. I thought the ladies facilities were very good (some brilliant shower rooms!) but my partner thought that the men’s facilities were small and cramped, and not particularly clean.
We ended up staying here twice on our holiday as the first time we were unable to walk our second day of coast path due to thick fog and a forecast for it to remain the rest of the day, we left a very wet boggy site, moving to another part of North Devon. We returned 2 days later in brilliant sunshine and all the mud had dried out and we were treated to an amazing sunset, we sat outside our camper watching the sun drop below the horizon.
Hartland appears to be a place of extreme weather! There is a path/route to Hartland Quay and the South West coast path across fields from the site. The site owners are very nice and all in all this is a site we would definitely return to.

We were met by a very friendly farmer and 3 lovely dogs and a couple of cats that made us really miss home! We were taken to a field that gave us a lovely view past the silage bales to the ocean beyond. From here it's a bit of a hike back down to the farmhouse to the converted cowshed bathrooms and toilets. Double check that you havent forgotten anything! Unusual and very quaint. We pumped money into the washing machine, which worked intermittently, and clothes dryers, which tumbled but didn't seem to dry at all, as if we were in a casino! We departed the next morning with two loads of wet clothes hoping for more luck at our next destination!
We visited Stoke Barton for a week end of August / begining September, arriving early Sunday morning. Right from the word go we were made to feel extremely welcome and were shown a selection of pitches and advised of the inclement weather that was expected to help us make our decision.
We settled on a small field just up on the right hand side past the farm house, surrounded by hedgerows giving some shelter. The owners were very firendly, even giving the kids 'joy rides' in th eback of the tractor.
The views over the North Atlantic / Lundy Island are beatiful when the weather allows.
The shower / washing facilities were ok, the gents were functional, whereas the ladies were a little bit more special. Dishwashing faciilities were excellent, only 3 sinks but were equipped with cloths, dish brushes, washing up liquid and surface spray - despite there being only 3 sinks, at no time was I waiting to wash up as has been the case at other campsites.
The weather did turn nasty for a couple of days, buth there is plenty to do in the surrounding area, ideally located for both north devon and cornwall.
From the camp itself, there are some lovely walks down to Hartland Quay, the lighthouse and coastal paths for those that don't want to venture too far with the 'paths' across the field being marked out by the owner in his tractor.
The shop is well stocked with basic food supplies, logs, braziers and the best scones in Devon!
Wow what a fantastic campsite. No set pitches and so much space to make your own 'camp'. Loads of space for kids, adults and dogs to play, including kite flying. Family that own the site are lovely.
Great play area for little kids, shop (great cakes and scones, limited opening hours), showers and toilets clean (we queued for 10 minutes once for a shower, but that's no problem), washing and washing up facilities great and the duck barn with microwave, kettle and table, such a lovely touch.
Shops, beach (westward ho) within 13 mile drive. A quiet site, plenty of space, lovely owners, beautiful views and sunsets. It was windy a lot so make sure you have decent kit. But that was great as we did some fab kite flying! We'll definitely go back!
Lovely site with sea views and great walks accessible from the site. The quay is particularly nice where there is a pub and a beach (no dogs unfortunately).
The site can be very windy but there is some shelter from hedges.
Facilities are mostly good; toilet block is aged but kept clean. Women's showers are modernised but the men's are not. But this is a working farm and there are difficulties siting new amenity blocks on fields a long way from the house.
The owners are very pleasant and helpful. I would definitely return.
