Best campsite ever! Shops and sea local. Everywhere dog friendly including beach. Owner is lovely, helpful and approachable. Best site we have ever been too. You won't be disappointed. Fantastic cafe 5 minutes away which will deliver anything from a cooked breakfast and drink for £4. 95 or a proper Sunday roast free of charge. Lovely safe seasons as Dy when tide is out. Shoreham airfield down the road so lots of planes to watch and great place to fish on the pier with very cheap rod hire. Also outdoor paddling pool, go jarring, mini golf a 5 minute drive away.
Another great visit to this gem of a site. Always well maintained, always a warm welcome and handy for Brighton to the East and Worthing to the West. This was our fourth or fifth visit and we will be back soon.
Just come back from a few days at The Barn. Very basic but clean and quiet camping - the toilet block was clean and adequate showers were good - our host Joe was very welcoming friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The site was a nice size, secure and flat for our tent. If you are wanting all mod cons then this is not the place for you. It was perfect for our stay away for a few days and I would highly recommend to anyone wanting some back to basic camping on a good family site. Will certainly return in the near future.
We have been campers for many years but after too many wet and windy holidays we this year decided to try hiring a motorhome for a long weekend to see how we got on with it before possibly hiring one for a longer trip. We picked this campsite because it isn't too far from home and we were keen to explore Brighton and Lancing has an excellent train service into Brighton and in fact all along the south coast. The station is about a 15 minute walk from the campsite.
Joe the owner could not have been more helpful especially as, being new to a motorhome, we had a few difficulties. He was there to save the day at every turn. All the other people staying there were really friendly and helpful too.
The site is ideal for families with young children. It has a great play area in the centre of the field, right in view of watchful parents but far enough away not to disturb everyone. The facilities are a little bit basic but spotlessly clean. The beach is probably about a 10 minute walk. Next to the station is an Asda and close by a really good off-license too. The train into Brighton was really cheap, just over £9 for two adults and a child.
Brighton station is right in the middle of town. As you walk away from the Station down Queen Street make a left down some steps after a short distance. A short way down the hill take a right into North Laine which is a pedestrianised area with great little independent shops, boutiques, cafes etc. We thought this area was actually better than The Lanes themselves which are closer to the sea front. There is very good signing so you won't get lost. The Brighton Pavillion is close by too and the Pier with a great funfair on the end - especially good if you have teenagers with you.
Going the other way from Lancing (West) either by train or by road is Arundel which is a lovely old town with a castle. Big tip though - don't follow the sign in the main car park that says P for motorhomes this way! It takes you into a very wet field which we were into and couldn't immediately turn round due to a one way system (and lots of traffic). We got stuck nearly up to our axels in here. We insisted that Arundel Estates get us towed out which, to be fair, they did (thank you to Peter with his tractor! - and also to the wonderful Jim from the RAC who tried to come to our rescue to begin with and who stayed to help Peter by driving the van out - what would we have done without you both!).
Back to The Barn campsite - we'd definitely recommend. Thank you Joe.
We stayed here with electric hook up for 4 nights. Our two girls (11 and 9) loved it and made lots of friends, there were plenty of children of primary school age and a few older ones. The play equipment in the middle of the field is an ideal family layout, you can see them, but you can't hear them, so they don't feel too watched. It was a really friendly site, with mostly repeat visitors. It's good play equipment, has a tower with climbing wall up (simple one, littlies could manage), slide down, roofed den above and roofed den below with seating, then off to the side is a climbing ladder and hanging down from that a swing and a trapeze. So it works well for all ages, and the shelter means they have cover if there's a bit of rain. Also there's a bench at the front of the building which houses the bathrooms and the manager's office, by the drinks machine and washing up, that area is covered so the kids can sit there too.
Happy kids = happy parents!
It was a level site, with good drainage, hook up worked well except for a trip after a heavy night's rain. The manager Joe was on site most of the time, helpful and friendly. The toilets were clean, never had to queue.
It was 10 min walk to the beach, you access at the sailing club, and then there's a walkway mainly along the beach that runs to Worthing and the other way too (I didn't walk that way). I went for run to Worthing, the route is flat, fine for buggies or wheelchairs, just the odd bumpy bit (approach road to beach and sailing club). The beach is mainly pebbles, with sand at low tide.
Other way to Worthing walking up the beach path, a new beach cafe bar had just opened called Perch, we went there for lunch, it was a lovely place, very stylish and gorgeous beach views, with a simple menu, good kids choices. The breakfasts looked fab but we didn't have time to return. Just outside Perch there is a nice big play park, with outdoor gym equipment area adjacent, and a big grass area. There's a beach hut selling burgers, coffees etc. Nice picnic place.
10 mins walk the other way takes you to Lancing station, train to Brighton return off peak for the 4 of us was £13. 80. Brighton is well worth the trip, great fun. Don't miss Choccywoccydoodah in the Lanes! Also next to Lancing station is a small Asda, two pubs (I think one's a Harvester), a couple of cafes, a shop called Mulberries which sells cold beer (unlike Asda)! And a pizza takeaway place, which delivers to the campside! Nice pizzas we had from there delivered on the first night. The level crossing is just by there too which is always fun for kids to see the trains going past.
There's a pool 2 miles away in Worthing called Splashpoint, it has play equipment for littlies, a flume, and 2 diving boards with their own pool. Our girls absolutely loved the diving boards, you don't see them so much any more. It's a nice modern leisure centre which looks straight out onto the sea, you feel like you are on the beach, and it has a small outdoor pool with sunbeds round.
Had lovely neighbours from Yorkshire, thank you to them for lending us all the things we forgot! A tin opener has been added to my camping list.
Arrival was friendly, the pitch was well placed and not crowded and the sun was shinning.
The toilets were clean and the showers were good. The site is well placed for walking into Lansing or worthing or you could cycle further if that is what you want to do. There is really nothing that can be said that is negative about our stay. I only gave the site facilities a 9 out of 10 because there was no shop, but the local shops are so near you really don't need one on site.
If you want a site that is pure camping then this fits the bill, but it is also good for families and for those that insist on a proper toilet and shower.
There are also plenty of eateries in walking distance so you can have a relaxing time and leave your car back at site if you fancy a drink.
The site is also in walking distance of the sea.
Yes there is a small airport close by, but this is not very noisy and the planes stop at night so no one should find this a problem.
A really good time was had by all during our stay at this site, thank you to the site owners.
Stayed here several times this year. The owner cant do enough to help you out, small friendly camp site, shower block and toilets always clean and water always hot. Wash up area always clean and so is the whole site, small climbing frame and swings along with goal posts on site, plenty of shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants within walking distance.
Great little site large grass pitches approx 8-9 metres wide large open space in middle for kids to play busy but not over crowded nice clean shower/toilet block plenty of hot water large family size cubicles in both mens/womens side, friendly helpful owner Good wifi coverage on site, close to sea shops and public transport great for a quiet break if you just want to stay on site or if you want to get out and about there's loads to see and do you possibly couldn't do everything in a weekend will stay longer next time.
Great location for Lancing, Brighton, Hove, Worthing, Goring and Littlehampton. We arrived Friday evening, drove back to Surrey on Saturday morning to cycle the 40 miles Downs Link from Bramley back to Lancing - perfect place for getting to after this run. We stayed for four nights in all over the Bank Holiday weekend. Our children had a great time meeting up with all the other children at the well positioned play area, some children set up a football pitch and ours also flew their kite, so lots of space for everyone to enjoy themselves. Washroom facilities kept very clean, saw the owner steam mopping the floors each day. Showers only just about warm enough. Two showers in ladies and gents, two toilets in ladies but only one in men's and apparently there was queuing for the loo in there. No hot water for washing up at sinks outside but there are plugs for taking your kettle for this. The owner was helpful and friendly, was around to give advice etc during the day (not sure if this was all day as we were off site 10-5) and was also available by phone. Overall a very relaxed campsite, surrounded by fields of horses, great location easy walking distance from the beach and buses, short drive from the attractions of the towns of the South coast. We will definitely stay here again.
We have been caravaning for over 20 years and never been to brighton so we found this campsite about 8 miles outside we did look at the caravan club one in brighton but don't like the regimented feel you get when visiting and the cost is far more.
We arrived early afternoon on the thursday and the site was quite empty but got rather busy the following afternoon the owner joe showed us a few pitches and let us choose what one we wanted.
The campsite is a medium sized flat field grass kept tidy and pitches around the edge the surrounding field have horses and plenty of wildlife to look at.
The shower block was nicely kept with plenty of space to go about your buisness,
Local bus/train short walk away great for getting into town parking in brighton is ridiculously expensive so recommend leaving car at campsite.
Lancing is a small little town but has all the shops you need with a decent sized asda
All in all a great little break and if we ever come back to brighton we would most probably stay here.
Just spent a nice weekend at this campsite, great location for public transport as being in motorhome we didn't have a car to get about, the 700 bus service is great to get along the coast to brighton/worthing running every 10 minutes good walks to sea and downs great for dogs. The shower block was cleaned daily, with plenty of hot water for a showers the cubicle are very large only a curtain not a door but that didn't bother me always plenty of free toilet paper and hand soap, grass kept short large flat pitches located around outside leaving large space in centre of field.
Local shops only about half a mile away with an asda and takeawys beach about 10 min walk

A very reasonable priced campsite compared to others in area we are already planning a return later this year
The Barn site is a large open field with good choice of pitches some with electric hook-up. Joe (warden) doesn't live on site but comes round regularly to check everything and is contactable by phone if there's a problem. A downside to this is that without any security barrier, some cheeky campers seem to sneak in & out again & use the facilities without paying.
The facilities are a little basic but adequate. Male & female: two toilets, two showers with free hot water - ok but could be kept a little cleaner really. The outdoor washing up sinks with cold water only - sensor lighting (if that was what it was supposed to be) wasn't working so had to make sure we did our washing up before dark! Would like to see more rubbish/recycling bins as they were full to overflowing when we arrived midweek - certainly wouldn't cope if the site was at full capacity.
There's a small kiddy play area in the centre of the field and a full-size goal with a few footballs here too. The site is surrounded on two sides by paddocks with horses from the nearby equestrian centre and a boarding kennels & cattery are also neighbours though there was no noise from these to disturb us. There are often light aircraft taking off from the local Shoreham airport but you quickly get used to that.
We were staying here whilst visiting relatives and so spent most of our time off site. Handy location for visiting many South Coast or South Downs attractions easy access to public transport (buses & trains) into Worthing or Brighton.
We stayed for a weekend at this lovely site. Good transport links nearby (train or bus about 10 minutes walk) for both Worthing and Brighton, good facilities on the site and an excellent layout. There is a large ASDA store close by.
We had power hook-up and water right next to our pitch. The site manager is extremely helpful and pleasant and clearly takes good care of his site, grass neatly mown and facilities all spotless. Most people we met on the site were regular visitors and we will certainly be going back as well. Thanks for an enjoyable and trouble-free stay.
We have visited The Barn 3 times this year which says it all I think! It is a great base for us to visit one of our favourite places - Brighton.
The owner is very pleasant and helpful and goes out of his way to say hello.
The site is very well kept and is being expanded and improved all the time. Facilities are basic but clean and the site is generally level with good drainage. There is a play area in the centre with the pitches all around the edges. It was quiet when we stayed here so facilities were adequate although it might be a different story during peak times!
We will be back without a doubt - and we always visit the Indian in Lancing on the last night :)
