My family (Linzy, Ella, Megan, Molly and me Dave) stayed here for 10 nights but enjoyed it so much we decided to stay another 2 nights. We met 2 lovely families next door Daz/Michaela and kids Rowan and Esmae and Andy/Angela and kids Ewan and Grace and Eve the choc Labrador. Top People. My kids haven't stopped talking about their kids.
The site is located just in the right place to explore Cornwall, if you want to keep fuel cost to a minimum. All the beaches are fantastic and close by. The only problem was we didn't have enough time to explore them all. Cornwall is a beautiful place and this is a good base to stay.
The shower blocks have loads of hot water and are regularly cleaned. They are however dated but this doesn't bother me as long as they work and are clean. There is a playground for the kids with swings and slides etc. My kids loved this and there were tears whenever we retrieved them. There is also a water shute with pool for the kids and a swimming pool. The Pool is clean and quite busy.
The Bar is adjacent to the pool, this is handy as there are poolside seats and tables so you can let the kids loose and relax with a drink and watch the football on TV. There are 2 Pool tables a Darts Board and a Table Tennis table in the Bar. The bar serves Burger&chips, Pizza curries etc. (good value). Drinks include Rattler cider, lager and local St Austel beers (cheaper than pubs).
There is a handy small shop on site that sells News papers, milk, tinned food etc but Wadebridge has a Lidl, Tesco and Co Op, so we mostly bought in town.
The pitches are big enough to fit a caravan, Awning and a car on. You can get Gas refill at reception. All the staff are polite and pleasant and the site is great value for the money and I would recommend it.
I visited with my four year old son for one night which turned into two as we had such a good time. Little Bodieve was exactly what we were after and, having read some of the reviews on here, I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was.
The camp was fairly busy with caravans and electric hookups but there were only a few tents around, possibly due to the recent poor weather putting people off.
The shop was pretty standard for a campsite and was open all day each of the three days we were there.
The toilet and shower block was basic but very clean, well looked after and has everything you could need. There was a laundrette attached but we did not use it. The washing up facilities were as expected in a clean and covered area.
The was a very good play park for younger children. My lad played happily for a good hour as I set the tent up and as it is in the middle of the camping fields, is easily seen from much of the site.
The pool was better than I expected - we would have used it much more had we got in there earlier. It is a no frills, rectangular pool and fairly small. However, as it was only 5' deep, at the deepest part, I was y for my lad to play as I got in and out as I pleased.
The bar was only open from about 5:30pm onwards and stopped serving door at 8pm but this was just what I wanted. We didn't eat there anyway and were out most of the day either off-site or using the pool or playground facilities. The bar area was pretty modern, well staffed and was the perfect place to chill out for an hour or two before bed!
If you want an all singing, all dancing, entertainment filled campsite them you'll need to look elsewhere then this isn't for you. This is a great place for people who are looking to visit North Cornwall but want a nice chilled out site with good, well looked after facilities that put it above similarly priced sites.
Very Disappointing Campsite in a lovely area. As a family with 3 children we picked our site very carefully, and Little Bodieve looked ideal, a splash pool for the kids, a 'large' swimming pool for adults and a water slide, as well as a well stocked shop, clubhouse bar and restaurant to satisfy all the family. A little more expensive than we had planned but worth it as we had all we needed on site. Marvellous.
The 'splash' pool for the kids is actually no more than a landing pool for the slide, far too small for children to play in and because of this too dangerous for risk of injury from people coming down the slide. The slide and 'splash pool are only open for an hour twice a day so wasn't much use to anyone anyway. The 'large' adults swimming pool is the size I was expecting the children's splash pool to be, and because of this it was overcrowded even though the campsite was less than 1/2 full. My children spent half an hour of one day in there and didn't want to go back.
The Clubhouse was closed during the day and food was only served for a 2 hour period in the evening.
The washing up facilities have no cold tap and the water coming out of the hot tap is so hot you can't even dip your fingers in momentarily to pick up anything in the water, my son burned himself helping me wash up.
The area of the site is lovely, the surrounding countryside is great, the Camel Trail is superb for cycling and the town very pretty, it's just a shame that Little Bodeive have clearly spent as little as they can get away with in order to advertise that is has these amenities.
We brought our issues up with the campsite and were treated with contempt by the older lady at reception.
We stayed here for 1 night on our roadtrip round Cornwall last week. As we were out of holidays, this was quite a pleasant stop over. Pitches were large and facilities were good - large number of toilets/showers and good areas for getting rid of water waste. However, I can imagine that this gets really hectic in the holidays. There was nothing splitting the plots other than markings on the grass. We had planned to stay 2 nights but as it was so close to the Camel trail, we did that the day we arrived and moved on to West Cornwall the next day. Good point about this was location to Camel trail - 4 mins cycle downhill to start of trail which takes approx 30 cycle into Padstow (gorgeous place!) The only problem was the cycle back up the hill. You can take your motorhome to start of trail as there is a large carpark right by the start of it all. The Rick Stein fish & Chips in Padstow arent anything special - had better from my local to be honest, but Padstow is a must for people wanting small fishing towns - really pretty. I would stay at this campsite again but only out of holidays and as a stop till I move on to the next place
The facilities are well below the standard I would expect in a modern campsite. The showers themselves are ok but the toilet block is otherwise generally below par. There is no cold tap in the sink in the cubicle (so no teeth cleaning in there) and the whole block is draughty. On our second day some dog mess appeared in the doorway of the ladies. It was still there when we left – so the cleaning staff are not very attentive.
The pets corner is disappointing – there are a few animals to see but it’s a very dark and dingy corner.
Most of the facilities (shop, pool, mini golf etc) are closed out of season (Easter is out of season) and they look like it would take a lot to brush the cobwebs away and make them sprightly for the summer. On a similar note, the grass is quite long around the site.
The location is quite good though – there’s a pleasant walk across the fields into Wadebridge and you can cycle to the Camel Trail (there’s a bit of a hill back up to the campsite but we both managed without getting off and pushing, so it’s kind of do-able).
On the down side, we didn't find anywhere closer to go out for dinner than Wadebridge so we ate in every night.
Just got back after 4 nights here and loved it. A smashing site that at first seemed ideal for caravans but actually was better for campers due to the dedicated 'tents / motorhomes only' field at the lower end of the site. £16 per night inc EHU was good value.
Well kept, clean, tidy with only a little road noise and occasional angry crows to disturb the peace.
At reception, the co-owner was a lovely friendly lady and the rest of the staff were fine too. The bar was perfect for a quick pint before a stroll in to town (20 mins downhill) or on the way back (30 mins uphill if drink has been taken!). Facilities were no worse than most sites we've been. Hot showers, plenty of loo paper and all cleaned daily.
Great site in a lovely part of England.
Positives. Cream tea in the apple orchard on the camel trail towards Bodmin.
Rick stein's fish and chips*.
Harlyn beach.
The most out of tune singer ever in the karaoke in the pub in wadebridge. God bless her effort but stick to whistling.
We visited Little Bodieve with another family in the last week of July, during most of our stay the site was fairly quiet, although they were numerous seasonal caravans pitched there.
We found the Staff were very friendly and welcoming (they were happy to accommodate our request for pitches near the play area). The pitches, although not large were adequate. They were level, well maintained, and because we had some significant rainfall, I am able to confirm that they drain well!
The Toilet Blocks were not very modern, but everything was working during our visit, the floors had a tendency to become flooded during the morning ‘rush’ but they were cleaned quite promptly. Also there was no mop etc provided to allow any guests to clean up after themselves (which I think most people would do). The laundry facilities were modern but a little pricey.
The play area was perfectly serviceable but a little dated. We used the swimming pool on two occasions, which was set in a nice area; the water was clean but a little cold! The children were unable to try the waterslide because it is only open in high season, and then only for two hours a day. The pet’s corner is not really a selling point for the site, and is basically an aviary tucked behind the waterslide with a few budgies and some rabbits.
Our main disappointment stemmed from the lack of advertised facilities, the shop and bar were both advertised on the website, but during our stay the bar was open every other day, and the shop was open for two hours on Saturday and Sunday, although it stated that there were “limited” opening hours, at the end of July we expected a little more!
Little Bodieve was an excellent base from which to explore Wadebridge and the surrounding areas, there is masses to see and do. The children particularly enjoyed Crealy which was offering free returns for seven days during our visit.
In conclusion, although I enjoyed our break at Little Bodieve, I would recommend that anyone planning a visit here that wanted to take advantage of the facilities advertised on the website should confirm if and when that are available!
On a plus all staff nice, polite and helpful. The park,toilet/shower block were all kept clean and was well placed as a base for site seeing.
On the negative pitches could be a little bigger as you have to fit everything on it including car and trailer if you have 1, toilet/shower block needs updating, shop, stock and opening all need to expand, bar food is quiet good but limited to a small menu, children's park area is small, basic and suited for younger children.
Overall had a great holiday and would return but hope for improvements.
First time camping - excellent location and site. Main negative aspect has to be the toilets and shower block. Very very dirty and smelly. I understand that they were cleaned daily but with the site being quite full perhaps owner needs to respond to some previous reviews regarding facilities.
No sign of pets corner, bar only open at weekends, shop was never open whilst we were there (3 nights). Staff friendly enough. Just the toilets that let them down!
