There are few campsites I return to because I like to find places I have not been to before. However, this site has attracted me back 3 times, the first time being in August 2005, and I therefore have to rank it as one of my favourite sites as well as my favourite area to visit. I have booked to return again in August this year.
Back in 2005 the facilities were a little basic and not too clean but that has certainly improved to a good standard since the renovation of the toilet block. The toilet facilities are a little cramped and a few more hooks for coats and clothing might not go amiss, but they are kept spotless and everything is provided. Despite the improvements it is worth noting that back in 2005 the price per person was £4 per night. It is now just £7 per person per night with an extra £2 for EHU. That is a very fair price indeed.
This site is basically a large field adjacent to the main road which runs through Lechlade, on the south side of the River Thames. However, while fairly busy during the day the road is quiet at night and traffic lights at the river bridge control the speed of traffic so there is very little noise.
The field is also set back from the road and bordered by trees and shrubbery. A very nice setting and only a 5 minute walk to the river and bridge, beyond which is the town. It is also pleasing that other campers respect the peace and quiet after dark.
Lechlade is a haven for antique lovers with several antique shops selling everything from small collectables to furniture. There seems to an abundance of pubs, restaurants, and hotels but it is certainly a quaint town in a lovely river setting with miles of the Thames Path to walk along, boat hire, and of course, riverside pubs.
The campsite does not have a shop but a small supermarket in the town seems to provide all requirements. There is also a hardware shop in the town selling a few camping bits and pieces.
There has recently been an increase in electric hook-up pitches and these are marked but the non-EHU are just a case of finding a spot and staking your claim. The field is flat and the grass kept short but not manicured.
On this visit the grass in places was showing scars from rabbits and obvious signs of work on installing underground pipework or cables but it is still early in the season and there is plenty of time for recovery. This is a family owned site and they bend over backwards to help make your stay an enjoyable one.

This is a superb campsite, pitch sizes are great and there is plenty of space between pitches. We had electric hook up.
The owners are very friendly and helpful and gave us a very warm welcome.
The toilet and shower block was very good, and very well looked after.
The campsite is lovely and quiet, there was a mixture of families, couples and groups of friends staying while we were there and the atmosphere was very friendly and respectful of other people.
The local area has great facilities, with a well stocked Londis for groceries, pubs serving lovely food, an Indian and Italian restaurant, a chemist and post office and great browsing shops full of collectables.
Boats can be hired for trips on the river or there is a boat trip to take. St Johns Lock is very pretty with somewhere to picnic and watch the comings and goings through the lock.
We were staying in a motorhome so everything we did was on foot and there is plenty to explore. Access to the local area from the campsite across the field is a very easy and a lovely walk.
This was our first visit here and will definitely not be our last, we loved it.

We live in Swindon, only 12 miles away and use this site most weekends, Karan and Kev (Owners) are very pleasant and will always help if required. The site is mixed with Caravans, Motorhomes, and tents (We have a caravan). Pitches are excellent and toilets very clean.
The electric barrier is very good and requires a key to access which in my opinion makes the site secure. (£20 refundable deposit). Key also required for access to the toilets. The river Thames is only a stones throw away and shops and pubs etc a very short walk (Less than 10 minutes from the site). We have made some friends on the site who also visit regularly and would highly recommend a visit. Gas not available on site but is readily available locally (Again less than 5 mins from site

We wanted to get away in our caravan for August Bank Holiday and Bridge House had room – not too far for us we only live about 7 miles away.
There are good walks along the Thames and Lechlade has all the facilities required; shops, pubs, cash point etc. Site is grassy and level and safe due to security barrier - yes, the stile from the site onto the footpath to Lechlade and the river is tricky if you are not too dextrous and the cows in the field can be very inquisitive but don’t let this put you off.
Varied set of campers - caravans, tents and motorhomes but very friendly, our children made friends very quickly. Very quiet at night, owners enforce this rigidly not that they had any cause to while we were there. Adjacent road is busy at times but we never found noise excessive.
Wash block clean and enough of them – showers very good and very hot. Site has a caravan storage facility attached; its apparent many use the site as a weekend holiday home as it’s in such a lovely location.
All in all a good site and well worth a visit

It's the location that makes this site so good - next to a huge field to play in (mind the cows, a great little town ( I think you can get pretty much everything between the supermarket, excellent butchers, hardware shop, & kebab shop, not to mention lots of others!), lots of good pubs, and beautiful walks along the river to lots more pubs.
The site has been a bit busy in previous years, but this had improved on our last visit. Plenty of loos but showers are limited, avoid peak shower times & you'll be fine. Although cleaned regularly, bear in mind it is the campers that make the mess!
We have always had great fun here, & we'll be back soon.
Good site for adults & children - lots to do in the area if the weather is iffy - I was taken to the Cotswold Wildlife Park & had a wonderful time. Fantastic site for Fairford Air Show but book well in advance, we've only managed to get in once.

We arrived on Saturday afternoon for a one night stay. The staff weren't particularly friendly but gave us directions to our pitch and a list of rules which were a little terse!
The site is quite small but with ample space between pitches and it is very flat so no need for ramps. Dogs are allowed and no charge is made for them (we have two) whereas on some sites we have been charged.
To get to the town you need to either walk along the road (no footpath) or negotiate the stile and work across a field. The stile is rather high and rather muddy on each side (wellies advised) but the dogs managed to go underneath quite easily.
The town of Lechlade is very pretty and well worth a wander. There are lots of nice looking pubs and restaurants. We ate at the Riverside Inn and were very pleased with the food which was excellent value. We ate in the garden but under an awning to avoid the rain. The view of the river is lovely and the boats and swans make an interesting backdrop.
We have our own loo and shower so didn't use the camp facilities and therefore can't comment on these. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would visit again if in the area.

The site has a lovely relaxed atmosphere and consists of an open field which allowed us to camp where we liked as a group. The showers and loos were clean and seemed quite new, the showers nice and hot and although there was only two I never saw a queue and it was a busy July weekend. There was a washing up area and small laundry room but we didn't use either as we only stayed one night.
The site is a short walk to the town of Lechlade (5mins) for supplies and pubs. The only slight downside is the stile you have to cross - it requires a certain amount of agility! There is a small supermarket for all you would need, a cash machine and bank and a choice of pubs. We tried the Riverside Inn - good food and good beer and a nice beer garden by the river.
All in all a good trip and would return!

We stayed at this site for 4 days in May. It's a large field with plenty of space yet cosy with a warm and friendly staff.
The facilities are clean and basic, with a few small showers and dish washing area and small coin operated laundry.
The location is good as it is just a easy stroll to the village which has several pubs and restaurants along with a supermarket which is well equipped for your cold beers, cold wine and BBQ supplies.
The only down side was the road which is busy at times with a lot of bike noise.

The proximity to the river and town is the main thing in this site's favour. That's not to say there's anything wrong with the site - it's clean and tidy, with good security and very helpful owners.
The field is a bit lumpy, which might bother tenters, but was fine for us. As previously mentioned, the stile is quite high, so you need to be reasonably agile for this site, but as long as you can manage this it's a haven for people like us who just like to 'wander' and don't need bells and whistles.
We will definitely be returning. The prices are per person (£7 this year), so cheap if you're a lone traveller.

The site is small and well kept you will need to book as it does get busy in the holiday time and around the time of the air show.
Within easy reach of the town 10mins and the river Thames path.
There is a real ale pub in town where they brew their own beer, forgot the name but cant miss it straight across at the lights.
The toilets are small the showers are free could do with more pressure dish washing facilities really good.
The staff are really helpful and friendly.
Have stayed at this site many times over the years always been good tried to stay last bank holiday but they were full. Only £7 a night
