Stayed at mortonhall for 3 nights near the end of November cost £60 plus a £1. 50 online booking fee (would have been better off just phoning). Long drive leading down to the site entrance is a narrow road with passing places. Booking in was easy and the girl on reception gave us a run down on where to eat and drink in Edinburgh.
The site itself is large but was not busy when we were there so had the pick of pitches.
The shower block (near the stables bar) is 1 of the best we have used! the under floor heating is a great touch and means its never cold!
Eat at the stables bar prices and service were both second to none.
As stated before bus stop at entrance and a short journey into the city, so much to do in Edinburgh 3 days was no where near enough so we will be returning soon

The main negative is outweighed by the positives.
On the down side, the pitches appear to be the minimum safety distance apart. The site is huge (more than doubled with a temporary tent site for the Festival - the secure lockers at Reception were a nice touch). So it was frustrating that most of the motorhomes were put cheek by jowl on adjacent pitches in one area when the site was 90% empty. Alternate pitches would have been more relaxing. Next time (out of season) we'd ask for somewhere to enjoy views of the site rather than other vehicles. Or (in high season, when the site's full) we'd need to put up a screen for privacy when we sit outside, and to deflect folk passing close by to get to the toilet block and CPD disposal.
On the plus side, the toilet block we used was clean (there are several blocks dotted over the site), the showers and hair dryers are free. Not heated though - the shower was a quick one! And there are lots of walks to enjoy in the estate.
Our primary reason for returning - and we will - would be the quick and easy access by bus into town. Buy a day ticket for hopping on and off - we went all the way to see The Britannia at Leith, came back to visit Edinburgh Castle, went out to the Botanics and back, stopped off in Morningside on the way home to stock up at Waitrose, all for £3.50 each. (Exact fare, no change given. )

Stayed here twice last year. Ideal base to explore Edinburgh. Staff extremely helpful. Spotless site and facilities cant recommend it enough. Plenty of room on the pitches. Well kept grounds. Children's play park is great. Quiet enough site away from hustle but close enough. Plenty of eateries nearby bus stop at end of road is very handy for easy access to Edinburgh. Loads of tourist attractions nearby.

Great site which is well located to visit city centre. Plenty showers and toilets which were clean (did have hundreds of daddy long legs!). Surroundings are lovely in walled park area and plenty space between each unit. Also a small pub/shop on site which we didn't use but looked nice.
Little play park for kids, quiet and overall a fab site. We will be back.
Could do with more lighting at night time.

I love this campsite. Great location. Bus stop right outside site. Great bar. Good facilities. Shop is useful but having a wider selection would be good. We also liked the van that sold breakfasts on a morning for those lazy days where we fancied breakfast in bed. Had a few problems with wasps as there was a nest close by. All in all a fabulous week!

This site is very handy for Edinburgh, very easy access to the site with ideal bus service just outside. Shop is just right. Pitches were a little too close, we were put on a campervan pitch even though we'd said we had a tent awning too, didn't think anything of it until we awoke the following morning with a larger van parked right up to the awning, lovely couple, luckily with a sense of humour. Asked at reception why someone had been put so close and found out we'd been put on the wrong pitch and shouldn't have put the awning up, hey ho, all was ok though as we were only staying one night. Lovely atmosphere to the site too as almost everyone was there for the Fringe and touring Edinburgh so like-minded people. Will be back to stay here as I think perfect.

Stayed here for 5 nights and I have to admit, prior to coming I was alittle put off by reading some of the other reviews about how close the pitches were. I did find them a little close however not as bad as I had imagines, however I did have a fully serviced pitch which might have made the difference.
Staff were very friendly and helpful and the site was spotlessly clean as were the toilets. Toilets were in such good condition and so clean they could almost have been from a caravan club site.
Small shop on site with basics and also a games room and TV room. If visiting in August book tickets early to see the Tattoo as this was the main reason we went and we really enjoyed it.
Also visit the castle for a good day out and the zoo as weel, although you need to book in advance if you want to see the only Giant Pandas in the UK.
Also visit the Royal Yacht Britannia for an insite on how the royals live.

Very good site the main reason we chose it was the location it has an excellent bus service into Edinburgh right outside with a representative of the bus company there each day with all the info that you will need. The site itself is good our pitch was a long way from our plug in for the electric and our cable was too short ( they did say it is mentioned on their site but I didn't see it) but they loaned us a longer one for just a deposit which I thought was good. There is a food wagon on site we didn't use it but plenty of people did. Over all a very good site. Clean showers ( a little bit tired though ) but we would certainly stay there again.

What a fantastic site, perfect location for Edinburgh! The staff are all very helpful and polite, all public areas were kept clean, rubbish bins were emptied regularly and we often saw maintenance crew pottering around fixing any problems that occurred. The shower/toilet facilities were also very good, we stayed for several nights and only had to queue once, and that was only for about 5 mins max, plenty of hooks to hang clothing on and free hair dryers that may look feeble but are really quite powerful, believe me, I have thick curly hair and was very dubious that I would get much joy from it, but I managed to dry my hair well within the 20 mins it gives you. Lovely little pub on site, only draw back is it is a very quiet site after 11, and as we were a group using it as a base while we went to the Fringe Festival, we found this a bit disappointing, as we would have like to have had a drink and a natter in our tent when we returned late on, but couldn't as we felt that we would have disturbed those around us. Saying that though I cannot recommend this site enough and we will definitely be using it again!

Site is ideal for Edinburgh only £1. 75 for bus into city. Easy to find only 5 minutes from ring road hard to believe you are in Edinburgh. Shop on site fully stocked and open late, garden centre at main road with cafe. Stables bar does first class meals and is on site. Toilets spotless. Good for camping with kitchen, laundry and games rooms. Would not like to be on grass if raining but plenty of hardstandings. Only 8 miles from Musslebrugh races. Good play areas for kids and good dog walks. Staff very friendly and helpful. Limited wi fi. First class site.

Our second stop touring the north; a great site ideally placed for exploring Edinburgh ( bus stop at the end if the road straight into princes street). Lovely setting and good facilities. Good park for children of mixed ages and pretty well stocked shop on site. Ample toilets and showers which were spotless (we used the ones nearest the hall). Seems to cater well for the variety of units (caravans tourers and statics, tents, pods and numerous motorhomes) even had a kitchen with microwaves at a small cost and tv/ games room. Also lots of outdoor room for the kids to play on the top field.
Would return and defo recommend for visiting Edinburgh.

Nice site with clean tidy toilets. Friendly staff on site part. Good for kids and adults. Big, but nice atmosphere. What let this site down big time for us was the stables bar. After visiting the night before to ask for food for my son who has allergies we were told it wasn't a problem. On the night of our meal with friends who come to visit us we were served by a very unhelpful waiter who said the food all had allergens in it. When we asked what the chef could offer us we were then told the chef 'didn't seem that interested' and he/she couldn't offer any suggestions! When I stated that I found this rude and that I wished an idea of a food he said the chef had not been happy! Terrible service and very rude staff. Shame as lovely looking wee pub and a nice site spoilt!

The site was well signposted and easy to find. It is 5 minutes from the city bypass. Stayed here for 2 nights. The staff were friendly and welcoming.
The site has lots of caravan/motorhome pitches and lots of tent pitches in the lower field and more in the upper. It was quiet when we stayed with one tent pitched and maybe 2 dozen caravans.
The toilets and showers were spotlessly clean.
TV reception was good.
Nice wee pub restaurant on site.
There are plenty play areas for kids.
The only negative was that the hard standing pitches were a wee bit small.

My wife and I stayed for just one night on 14 September and
Must say that we thought the site was very peaceful and pleasant with nice surroundings, we must also agree with others who have submitted reviews saying that the pitches are, in many cases, just a little bit too close together.
We did however find that the toilet / shower block closest to our pitch in area (H) left more than just a little to be desired.
The shower curtains looked as though they had not been cleaned for quite some time with heavy deposits of body fat being visible and the water control valves for the showers were badly stained. The shower cubicles were also very small.
I did complain to the lady at reception, and received an immediate apology. Apart from the above complaint, the site is in a great location.

Just got back from a 2 night stop. Booked a few weeks ago for last minute plan to go to the fringe. It's a nice site with a good shop and friendly helpful staff.
They need to better define their pitches. We had trouble getting to ours in the centre section, as it didn't have roadways, then when people arrived the next day we were blocked in and surrounded, some pitched far too close together. Thankfully others had packed up by the time we needed to get our car out.
Also they could do with another 2 showers instead of 4 showers and 8 loos for the block in the main section, as had to queue, even before 7. Always clean though.
The site is well placed for the city centre, got the bus in and out really easily (£1. 40 for a single or £3. 50 for a day ticket to go in and out several times). You need the correct change in the week, but the bus company is on site on summer weekends to give advice and sell tickets. Takes about 15mins to get in.
Word of warning getting a late bus back around the time the tattoo finishes, very busy, lots couldn't get on, so they had to wait for the last bus (walk up to st Andrews sq rather than catching it on princes street). Got a taxi back last night, he drove like bat out of hell so it only cost us £13!
We would use it again for short city visit stops only, as we didn't like the squashed in layout and the ring road noise was loud when the wind was in the wrong direction.
However considering it's the busiest time of the year for Edinburgh and it is a city suburb site, not a country idyll, it wasn't half bad
