A real mixed review. Like other reviewers we too found the site to be well maintained; the grass was kept immaculate, the toilet blocks clean and with ample facilities and the little shop well stocked. The owner was friendly - although very quick to take your money off you!
We were only stopping for one evening to try our new tent out, and for this or an overnight stop the site serves its purpose. I definitely think that £14 a night for no scenery, electric hook up, noise and still having to buy tokens for shower block is on the steep side though.
But. It's not camping! With Tescos round the corner (admittedly convenient), more lights than Blackpool illuminations and the view from your tent being either a housing estate or busy A road. It is also not child friendly with steps (no gate) from the tent area down onto the busy A road.
We couldn't fault it. Spotlessly clean toilets, grounds very well kept, everyone so friendly there. Little shop for basics, Tesco just round the corner.
Not too far from Whitstable and Herne Bay sea front. It was recommended to us and we will definitely recommend this camp to everyone. We shall be going back again.
Just returned from a four night stay here and loved it. We are keen cyclists and this was an an ideal base and enabled us to pick up both the Viking Trail close by at Reculver but also the Crab & Winkle cycle path.
The site itself was neat, well looked after, grass mown with lovely primrose flower boarders, as you would expect! The toilet, shower facilities were immaculate, although didn't use the showers as had own in our caravan.
Having Tesco's only next door meant we didn't worry about forgetting anything as whatever we needed we walked around the corner and picked it up. If I had to state a downside I would say traffic noise on the first night only, because thereafter I was so tired I either didn't notice it or it didn't exist.
The owner was very friendly, the weather was very kind to us and we will be going back sometime very soon I hope.
Returned again for another week at this campsite. The owner is still in the lead role of Bob the builder, tools being loaned out or his just repairing things himself! Tesco's a great help for beer and anything you forgot to bring, and handy for getting a taxi into town. Hope to go again next weekend for a long weekend, you don't need a pub on this site as the owner provides enough entertainment especially with his many stories! I highly recommend this site its quiet friendly and I didn't come across one spider in the toilets!
It is rare that you feel sad about leaving a place its normally just sad the holiday is over.
Very well maintained toilets - regularly cleaned, freshly decorated and plenty of toilet roll. Hot water for the showers is by token. Do beware that they don't give very long at all so you may need at least 2 tokens to get a very speedy shower, especially in the mens. Showers are hot (with enough tokens) and clean.
Handy little washing up station with warm-ish water without tokens.
Just a quick walk round the corner to the 24hr Tesco extra if you forget anything.
The site is next to the main road, but as another reviewer said, it isn't too noisy.
Views of the sea, if you get the right position.
The only downside: a cockerel that likes to crow, especially ridiculously early in the morning, so if you are tenting you will certainly know it's time to wake up!
Would definitely return if the cockerel disappears and if the hot water for the showers was just included in the pitch price. With those 2 things, I would strongly recommend the site to others; may return despite the cockerel!
Set in 500 acres of beautiful, rolling Kent countryside. The Oast village on site is the World's largest Oast house collection and makes for a spectacular backdrop. Grass and hardstanding pitches for caravans, tents and motorhomes with electric option. Modern toilets and showers and multiple washing up facilities.
Small shop onsite and pub/restaurant at the entrance. The River Medway flows through the site, providing idyllic waterside pitches. Make the most of the location and try your hand at canoeing or fishing or simply sit back, unwind and enjoy wildlife spotting. Five minutes' drive from Paddock Wood station and trains to London Find out more here
We were recommended this site and booked in for an overnight stay. The owner was very friendly and helpful and we returned a couple of weeks later ready to enjoy another weekend. The road noise is not a problem - the site is clean and the utilities (and shop)made our stays comfortable. Short walk into the centre of Whitstable and we managed to park so that we had a distant sea view when we woke! We cant wait for the site to open again in the spring and expect to be regular visitors!
Lovely friendly site owner, salt of the earth, he should be renamed bob the builder as everyone seems to be borrowing his tools. Very relaxed site with everything you need, no clubhouse which makes it more homely without all the the commercialised set up I have seen on other sites in Whitstable. Tesco's very handy for bits and pieces including the odd beer!
Cockerel has trouble telling the time, but he is great for given you and idea of how long before you need to get up without putting on a light to see the time! apparently he is only a youngster who will master it by next year???
Overall I would recommend this site to anyone, friendly homely with a great manager!
An excellent site, we came here late on a Friday night after having visited another site in a less friendly area. The manger was welcoming and extremely helpful, even a welcome cup of organic tea!
The tent pitches next to the greenhouse were well placed, there is a busy road right by the site but noise is minimal, picnic tables by the pitches make a nice area to eat and shower facilities were well kept and the tokens reasonably priced.
The area was welcoming with a nice pub down the road (unfortunately I can't remember the name of it) local fish and chip shop well worth a visit or if you want a snack or any extra bits the tesco is useful as others have mentioned.
This is a nice, small, friendly campsite. It has has good clean toilets, showers etc, and there are water points around the site for drinking etc etc. There are also geese, hens, and a large pond with goldfish to keep children entertained, and there are washing up facilities.
Negatives: The showers are operated by tokens, and the time duration for 1 token seems to vary from 1 minute to 5 minutes. The hot water taps are dead.(i did notice that there was a coin box on the wall but there was no sign saying if it was to activate the hot water taps or what coins it accepts) Also the main road was heard all night as it is very close to the site. I know people are saying it wasn't noisy, but it was noisy enough. Also you are overlooked by a few houses (which we did forget about most of the time so it wasn't much of as problem)
Positives: The site is really good. We did have a lovely weekend, and everyone else on the site was nice and friendly. The staff were very helpful, and there is a little shop on site. I would recommend this site to lots of people, and I only mentioned the negatives as that's what this site is for, to be honest about campsites so people get what they are expecting. I likes the fact that there was cats, fish, hens and geese, and the old red telephone box gives the area a nice country feel. There is also electric hook-ups on site and static caravans. Oh.And the Tescos is handy too (and its one of them massive ones with a cafe and petrol station!)
Some sites, have a manicured sterile feel where you can't relax, this friendly site it just the opposite. There are no Pubs or playgrounds on the site, just a relaxed friendly atmosphere.
Its a fairly small site, with a pond full of fish, a couple of cat wondering around and a cockerel, who luckily doesn't get up too early.
The toilets and showers are spotlessly clean, tokens are available for the showers from the small site shop, which also stocks one or two necessities. But not to worry if you have forgotten anything, there is a big Tesco just next door. You would think this would be a problem, but I did not even realise if what there until I had a wander looking for a local shop.
There is a washing up area on the touring site and a laundry on the static site.
The site itself is next to a road, but there is not much noise so its not a problem. Its a great base for exploring coastal Kent.
