Camped here the first weekend of June with a friend who has had 2 previous bad experiences of camping and usually goes to Pontins, so was determined to show her what proper camping was like. So I chose this site as it has a club and other facilities.(we normally camp on small quite sites with no club on them)

When booking I was worried about the size of the pitch and the fact we needed 2 together so rang the site and was told they would put us on a good size pitch next to each other,by chance I had to ring the night before and double checked about the pitches while on the phone to be told that they weren't holding pitches it was a case of first come and first pitched. As I was worried about getting 2 together as the forecast was good I decided to set off early.

I got there at about 1.20pm thinking as you can't get on the pitches till 2pm I would be in plenty of time. On arrival the man in front was booking in an 8 tent party which got me a bit worried, I didn't need to be as I easily found 2 good size pitches next to each other. And started putting up the tents.

I was so glad I arrived early though because at about 4pm people were driving round and round trying to find spaces.

Yes it was busy and yes there were some big groups but I did feel safe enough to leave my cooking things in the gazebo knowing we would find them there when we got back.

On the first night there was a lad shouting at about 3am but that was it all weekend so it was quite for the amount of people there.

The staff were very helpful as my husband had left some of my sons medicine at home and the security guard gave me the number of his surgery so I could get the out of hours doctors.

We used the entertainment on the saturday night and it was just what we expected dancing, games etc. The kids really enjoyed it.

The kids had great fun on the park and it took us all our time to get them of it.

The toilets were cleaned regularly but did run out of toilet roll so taking your own is a good idea. The showers were small but the cleaner let us use the disabled one as there ware little ones with us which made it a lot easier as there was a lot more room in there.

Price wise we used the tesco offer buy one night get one free so it only cost £25 for the weekend, so it was good value for money.

All in all we had a really good weekend and so did my friend and it has shown her that camping is fun( her son didn't want to go home).

If you like something with a club on and don't mind a busy site this is a really good one. We would go back but I think its best if there is a few of you.

We returned Sunday after 6 nights, we booked last minute, for the pool and clubhouse for our two, boy 7, girl 6,

Good points;

The staff are helpful,

The children's play area is great and the footy courts

Contrary to the other review there are two touring areas the Warren, and the Meadows, we was in the warren, the pitches are very spacious

Now the bad points

No reserve pitching,

The showers have been plastic clad but they are poor but clean. The park has attracted a lot of undesirables, this can be seen by the activity of the site security, there are many hobby vans and commercial vehicles, and dogs tend to run free

The pool is in need of a refurb, and the Sparkey crew team leader, well as said before it was her own private show.

Just returned from this site today. We were lucky to benefit from the weekends excellent weather.

We were disappointed that the site was so crowded, and as it is a 'pitch where you like' site it was difficult to find somewhere that was not too close to another unit, despite it stating in their information that units should be 6m apart.

Unfortunately there were several loud groups on site 'partying' until 3 in the morning which resulted in severe loss of sleep for many people. Security Guards patrol the site but did not stop the noise levels at unreasonable times.

The showers and toilets were of a very good standard with plenty of hot water, although they ran out of loo roll due to the site being so busy.

The on site shop is well stocked and the amusements, play area looked very good. The pool was very warm, although the environment was very tired with only two showers for everyone using the pool. The timetable for swimming was very restricted as it was only available to 'non owners' between 10-1 and 2-4pm. Lockers were a non-refundable £1.

The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. We did not use the entertainment provision, nor did we eat on site so cannot comment on that.

There is a Summerfields within one mile of the site, and there is also an Asda not far away. Abergele has a Tesco.

We were disappointed with this site purely because of the selfish people that were there this weekend

Just returned today from a weekend of camping at Ty Mawr. I will review what is good first.

'Good'

1. The excellent hot weather.

2. 'Jakes', a lovely family 'pub/restaurant' that can be found just across the mainroad (left).

3. The fantastic children's 'water-park' found on the 'front' in Rhyl. It is CLEAN, perfect, water fountains and best of all FREE.

4. The location is fair.

5. The children's play area was quite good and my son liked the football area.

Constructive Criticism

1. The Campsite 'clientèle'. Steer clear if you don't want a site with Security Guards and Police in attendance until about 5.30am. The second night was not much better, with drunken people stumbling on to our tent at 3am 'looking for theirs'. There was loud music and screaming well after 1am. The Security 'Trannie' Van was trawling round and round past out tent the second night.

2. There are two areas for camping. The Warren and The Meadows. We chose the Meadows as it was further from the facilities, hence we thought quieter (big mistake).

3. The portable cabin wash/toilet facilities looked like new cabins and we are not adverse to using Portable cabins, in fact we are happy to camp on sites with very old (but clean) facilities. On arrival the ladies toilets were clean. Within two hours, I refused to use them again. I would not allow my daughter to use them either. No loo paper (well we go prepared, we don't expect any), but they were filthy (obviously by the people using them and I am ashamed to say - females!). My husband assures me that the 'mens' were fine and clean - he took the children there. The sinks are no bigger than a very small en-suite washbasin and you are better not to look in (due to what is in them).

4. There was one bin for our area. Last night the bin was open it was so full. There was nearly as much left on the floor adjacent to our tent than there was in it. It was blowing everywhere.

5. The swimming pool is open 10am - 1pm and 2pm until 4pm (but you are asked to leave 15mins before the end). That gives over 100 people less than 2hrs swimming in an afternoon - in temperatures of 24degrees plus! Rhyl Council have got it right, their children fun outdoor paddling pool is open 1130 - 1700hrs (dependant on weather) and as it was glorious they open earlier and close later - they understand what people want on their holidays. Oh yes, Ty Mawr pool is in dirty and they had secured a Fire Exit Door closed by using a Clubhouse Chair (I was told by the Lifeguard they do this when pool is open and at night because people open it and let others in). When I pointed out that this was a Fire Risk and I was sure that the Fire Officer would have a field day! Sure enough it was removed, but I got some dirty looks.

Sadly, a relaxing weekend with the children at the seaside was a stressful time. I was glad to get home for a shower and to chill out. Please don't go here if you want a pleasant camping experience (family or couples). You would choose here for the equivalent of a stag/hen do. They allow commercial vehicles and three or four units to pitch together in a tight circle. Children run wild, from as young as just walking to teenagers. At the water taps there were 'water bombs' discarded by the groups camped there, people who watched their children do this, constantly running the water and washing toys here - using it as a play area.

Unfortunately, although the Reception Staff were pleasant, they were not interested on any matter, or even when I told them that when I had tried to shower my child that the ice cold water had suddenly turned very very hot and scalded her arm. I asked them to complete the Health & Safety Book, but she didn't. The Security Guard was a pleasant chap.

The entertainment complex was ok, funny smell in there, not our kind of place.

We like to have a drink, a laugh and a BBQ, but respect that people have children, some like to sleep and we keep the noise to a minimum and are quiet after 11pm latest. Sorry to feel so negative, but we had no sleep the first night and minimal on the second night.

We left at 10 pm last night 29th May as there were bricks being thrown from the camping field next door, which went through our next doors awning making a big hole in it, security says that police were called but we left before damage could be done to our motorhome. The place was very full and we expected that on a bank holiday. The toilets and showers were ok and there was plenty to do around, with entertainment but didn't get to see that as we only stayed one night. Heated swimming pool and plenty of play areas for kids. Good cycle ways around and good buses to the town of Rhyl and Llandudno. Ok place to go but keep away bank holidays and keep away from nearby hedges

We came here for a quick weekend away and Abergele is known for a really nice beach and within quick distance of rhyl and other days out. The area is lively with two fairs, a beach, shops, resturants, pubs etc.

Upon arranging it was hard to even get a parking space near reception but the ladies behind the desk are friendly and more than willing to help out over anything.

We booked two 'pitches' and arranged upon booking, to have these two pitches together, which they said they would do, only to arrive and be told to set up anywhere on the field.

The field is at the back end of the holiday park and you feel somewhat forgotten about. The field is split into two by a fence and the showers and toilets are just 'festival' loos stuck at the top end in Electric tent part, therefore making you walk a far bit. The showers were tiny, felt like you were showering in a high school locker.

We only found the water tap on the night before we were due to leave. There is only one for the whole field and it was surrounded by other tents who had pitched around it for selfish gain. No of this is shown on the site map and on the None EH there was no fire points. The field is lit up at night by two big lights unless you're on the Non EH which had the lights but never turned on.

You get a entertainment pass included in the price and this was really the only reason we picked this site due to having a little one with us. The entertainment staff spent more time talking and making rude comments and jokes between themselves, that the kids ended up looking bored and disinterested.

The arcade on site was fair with a ticket collection scheme, which every kid loves and contained new games like guitar hero. They had staff on the door for safety. The food on site is very expensive with £4 for a simple cheese burger. They also have a chippy which is about 20p more than normal and only had some much supply of food for the weekend so when it runs out, its ran out. Lucky though a ASDA is situated just up the road so you don't need to bring food with you. The on site shop also had food, toys, camping bits, first aid etc but again it was cheaper to go to ASDA.

The Playground is again on the other side of the holiday site compared to the camping/touring area but it consists of a big climbing frame, swings, slides, basketball and football areas which was always clean.

The site also had a pool, but be aware that it is only open til 3.45pm even tho it states 4pm. It doesnt have any showers and its a simple quick change in another box. There is also a slide. I can not fully comment on the pool due to a kid being sick in the water in the morning, which shut down the pool for the rest of the day, therefore we didn't spend much time in there.

On our weekend, I found other campers to be very noisy, which continued til 2am even though it is a family holiday site. I also noticed that on the Saturday the reception was welcoming more and more people onto the electric side of the field without really going down and seeing how packed the area was. They just seemed to cram as many as possible on and leave the area alone.

I will say that a Warden did come round twice a day to check who had to leave but that's all he really did.

Maybe our 4th trip back to Ty Mawr since we started with touring caravan last year. I'm glad to say the toilet and shower blocks have been refurbished to a high standard with bright tiles and new showers, doors, sinks etc - still need a few hooks to hang clothes on but a massive improvement and kept very clean over the Easter weekend we visited.

It is a commercial site and the downsides are that it can get busy on the touring field and the kids asking for money for the arcades.

However, the upsides are plenty:

- the pool is excellent and we've never seen it too busy (it is heated btw - someone earlier said it isn't?), the extra activities that you can buy at the pool - build-a-raft, scuba, hamster-ball, life-saving are all low-cost and very well organised by the life-guard team

- the multi-sports area was loved by my 9-year old as he managed to make friends and enjoy a few games of football

- the park area has been improved with more swings and climbing frames

- the food in the Barn is fine and well priced - also a friendly place to watch the football if you are so inclined

- the on site shop is very well stocked and well priced

- the security team are great, friendly and will happily help with any queries and also keep a close eye on the kiddies

- my kids are at the age where they still like the kids discos and character shows - not my thing, but the kids love it and if they love it, we have a good holiday!

- we've met friendly families on the touring fields each visit and all the kids mix well and all the adults look out for the kids

- they had a new day-time show showing extreme football skills, basket ball skills plus street dancing - this was totally superb - at no extra charge. Don't miss it

- it's easy to pitch wherever you prefer and generally easy to keep plenty of space, privacy and space for a car. The pitches are level and there are plenty of EHU points. Worth mentioning that there are no hard-standings so it can get a tad muddy at times though it seems to drain easily

- plenty of water and waste points

- maybe a nice 20-minutes walk to a beach

The only downside is finding some good restaurants nearby. Good for eats is The Yacht near Pensarm and Abergele. Old fashioned, but family friendly and great food. We highly recommend a short drive to St Asaph to go to the Bridge Inn which over looks a great play park or The Plough for a good meal and great choice of wines

Highly recommended for a rainy day is Rhyl Sun Centre which my kids never tire of.

The evening entertainment in the show bar is ok with some cabaret but they have changed the resident band this year and the new guys just can't cut it just yet - they can play and sing, but they don't just have the interaction and polish the previous older guys used to have. Hey ho - a small gripe indeed.

Try it, you may be surprised!

We spent a weekend here in late September and chose a Park Resort site because we don't have EHU and wanted to make use of the clubs/bars on site. We arrived to a very friendly welcome from the reception staff who were cheerful and informative, we were shown a map of the touring area and told to pitch where we could 'because it was busy', there was only two pitches left, one next to two yapping dogs and one next to the shower/toilet block, we chose the latter which had both advantages and disadvantages, the facilities themselves although a little tired were kept clean and tidy for such a busy site, but could do with upgrading. We didn't spend much time on site during the day because it was just a base from where we could visit the many places of interest in this area. We did make full use of the on site club and bar and even saw Ray Lewis from the Drifters on the Saturday night, would use this site again even though the pitches are a little cosy.

This park is excellent for familie and couples.

1st time on this park and loved every minute of it we stayed for 1 week and took our 2 grandchildren.

The park as a well maintained children's play ground, indoor swiming pool large kids club, amusement arcade,on site shop and fish and chip shop,

The park is quite level and clean, toilets/showers clean and looked after the only down side to the shower block is that the showers could do with upgrading as there is no where to hang your towels or cloths there had to be hung over the door and the space was so small you had to go to a different shower when finished to dry yourself as the floor was like a swimming pool.

Aside from the fact that after pitching our Outwell Montana 6 and when returning from an evening out we came back to find 4 security guards had moved someone elses tent to 3ft from the side of our tent - it even states on their tent site tag to be the typical 6 metres apart from neighbouring tents. Showers and toilets absolutely disgusting even straight after cleaner had finished they were filthy.

I nearly cried everytime I had to shower and the water is so so hot I had to crouch down to be able to wash my hair so I was further away from the water.

The whole site stank of sewage and the entertainment venue was an absolute rip off with drinks - a bottle of cider costing more than a 5* hotel!

Im just glad we had our lovely tent to hide away in.

I have been going to ty mawr caravan site for 3 years now it is a great family facility and fun for everyone of young and old. The club in which they have a bar bingo and a star act on every night is a great place for the adults to go and relax. The children will find hours of fun with the large swimming pool fun park football pitches and the sweet shop. There is always something happening. The other tourists who go to ty mawr are all so friendly and very welcoming. I couldn't have wished for a better holiday park I can not ever wait for the weekend to come so I can go back again

This is a nice site with only a few let downs. Very good for families with good entertainment and pool, shop, arcades, laundrette and children's play areas on site. The only let downs were the shower blocks were not too well maintained and with dogs on site was some dogmuck in areas.

There is a lot of places to visit in the area the beach being one which is only about a ten minute walk and also there is 2 funfairs within ten minutes walk from site

We brought a ten man tent and some equipment about six months ago and decided to finally take the plunge. We booked for three nights (Thursday - Sunday) for £120 with electric hook up at Ty Mawr site (would recommend this length of stay to any first time camper like us) Only AFTER booking I decided to read the reviews for tents (typically me) to be honest we read mixed reviews some of which had totally put me off but ever the optimist we packed our three kids (13yrs, 12yrs & 4yrs) plus the kitchen sink into the car. I made a pack that regardless of opinions I would try everything and give an honest review so here goes.

Ty Mawr was easy to find and on arrival we found the receptionist both friendly and nice. She directed us to 'The Warren' and we were allowed to pick any pitch we wanted.

Pitches. We stayed in E08. The grass was well cut, the pitch was flat/level and easy to peg with ample space for our car (Ford Galaxy)

Toilet Block. Was cleaned daily sometimes twice a day, there was constant hot water and the showers are free. There is a disabled toilet on the block which was separated. There is a drinking water tap and a waste water tap and four large washing up sinks all with constant hot water.

Play Equipment. There are two large and two small Multi Use Games Apparatus (basket ball/football ect) and a large wooden play equipment (swings/slides ect) facing all in good condition.

Swimming Pool. Is fairly large (not heated) with a water slide, they offer scuba lessons, water football and water polo sessions at small charge (£1 - £2.50)the pool is in good condition the only possible problem is that in the changing rooms there are no benches just pegs and the floor can be wet (we managed to get dry and stay dry)

Shops. The chip shop is reasonable but slow service (you can get much better off site) the site supermarket has lots to offer and is reasonable (there is a Somerfield at the end of the road, out the site and left)

Pubs/Arcade/Entertainment. There are three pubs on site. The Farm House Inn stand alone pub nice decor, Sky TV (Football)in the morning this bar does a breakfast for only £1.99 one hash brown, egg, sausage, bacon and beans, Toast 99p extra for two thick slices and to be honest set us up for the day every morning (buy this with the toast and not the £2.99 one as you only get mushrooms extra and tomatoes instead of beans) There is a large bar called The Sands Bar this is the area where the bingo, Sparky and other entertainment is played ect. This isn't as nice as the other two bars due to the tables being unclean (sticky most nights). For me the best bar when open is Coco's there was a quiz, singers, disco and comedian and is clean. The prices are resonable 4 pint pitcher for £10.10p (often wondered why the 10p but hey) Carling only larger on tap, there are shots for £1 but warning I saw many person ill the next day from over doing it with the shots. The arcade is faily large with two pool tables. You will be asked to show you pass on most occasions even if going for ciggy, so keep pass handy.

Attractions, there is a fair about 10- 15 minutes walk from site, plus a baby fair and arcade by beach. The beach is on 10 minutes away from site and comprises of pebbles and sand (really nice) Llandudno is 25 minutes away by car and caenarfon is about 35 - 40 minutes would recommend a visit to both. Banks & Tescos are in abergele, 5 minutes by car.

All in all for a first time camper with three children to keep happy we found the site offered everything we needed and everything else was within a near locality. I would go back without hesitation. Enjoy.

We arrived on Saturday 12 September with only a few places left to pitch the caravan. The site was already pretty full and my first impressions was to get out of there. But reluctantly my husband talked me in to staying the two nights that we had booked. I must say though that the site is well equipped for children and lots to do. But as for the toilets well I would not even take my dog into them. I watched a member of staff clean the floor with a mop which she used from one end of the ladies toilets to the other without rinsing it, the smell was terrible (as a cloth that had been left wet for ages).

We had been given a tent so we thought we would make us of it I had checked out a few reviews on campsite uk but we wanted some where that had all the facilities as we had not got all the camping gear. As I didn't want to buy the whole set up in case I didn't enjoy it. So we had decided that we want to stay on a site in Towyn as we have a three year old to keep content plus I spent many years as a child holidaying in Towyn. We bit the bullet and took the chance, so we booked the bank holiday weekend. And I'm glad we chose the TY MAWR, on arrival we were directed by a security guard to reception and we were given passes. The staff were friendly and polite. We were given directions to were to set up the tent we were on the dog walking field which I wasn't to keen on as in some reviews this field wasn't too good. As we approached the field it was full of tents we were not allocated a pitch we could set up where we wanted to. So we found a good site by the hedge which gave us some protection from the elements and we could tie our dog to the fence. And to my surprise there was not dog foul every where. We started putting a nine man tent up and we had plenty of room for it and able to park the car as well. The ground was good and the grass was not too long. We were attempting to put the tent up, by this I mean it was like something from a carry on film as there was no instruction with the tent and we were definitely entertainment for the other campers watching us. Then a lady from one of the other tents took pity on us and came and showed us how to do put the tent up which I was really grateful for as I was rolling around under a deflated tent trying to put rooms in .I also noticed that there was a lot of security guys walking around the fields which put your mind at rest about your belongings when you're not there.

After we had managed to get the tent up we had a walk round, the camp was clean and tidy. There was a shower block and toilets in the next field to where we were pitched. Even though they were a port a cabin styl they were always clean and tidy. Unfortunately I can not comment on the food as we ate out but from what I saw on the menu it looked nice and reasonably priced. If you do decided to eat off site I would recommend the Hungry Horse just situated just over the blue bridge coming out of Rhyl heading towards Towyn as this is where we ate the first night and totally enjoyed it and there's a play barn for the kids for £1.00 entry. Then we went up to Rhyl for an hour on the amusement arcades.

We went back to the tent to get changed, which was quite difficult with only to wind up lights, next time we come will make sure we book a electric hook up pitch. We didn't get in to the club house till about 11.30pm and once again there were security guards on the doors and walking the camp. The club was still busy but there was plenty of tables to choose from. There was a singer on and a disco and in the Coco Bar there was a stand up comedian on but we couldn't watch him as children weren't allowed. The drinks were reasonably priced I think we paid £5.56 for two pints and it was open till 1.30am. It had a friendly atmosphere and the staff were friendly and helpful. On entering the club there are arcade games for the children to keep them amused and a snack bar that does hot dogs and burgers .There is also a chip shop by the club house but this shuts a 9.00pm. As we had had a couple of drinks we had to walk back to the tent. The pathways were well lit. And we slept like logs even our three year old as I was worried that he wouldn't sleep with it been his first time in a tent but I did take a travel cot, so that he couldn't escape.

You do hear a bit of noise from the other tents, but the fresh air knocks you out. The next morning I woke about 7.30am by other campers bBut we didn't mind this as we had more time to do things. We headed to Rhyl it is a bit of a drive but if you don't have a car there are buses that run regularly from outside the campsite .We had breakfast at the corner cafe I thought it was quite expensive for what you got and we had wished that we had one on the campsite.

We then took the dog for a walk on Rhyl beach. The beach was clean and my boyfriend even went for a paddle. There was plenty of things to do and there was even music event on the promenade with b list celebrities eg.X factor. There was also Red Arrows Parachute display team. There is a fair just for toddlers, which was not bad priced £1.50 a token which our toddler totally enjoyed, and there was even donkey rides on the sea front, which brought back childhood memories back. There are a few places in Rhyl that are run down but from some of the council notices, they are investing in regenerating the area

We then went down to towyn and there are a few bars and 2 fun fairs its about £7.00 for half a day wrist band. We stayed on the campsite again that night there was a band on and then the singer that was on the night before and a disco and in cocos there was karaoke. It was open till 1.00AM again and that was on a Sunday. When we were sitting having a drink, Lez Battersby from coronation street was sitting on the next table. A really nice man, he was on holiday on the campsite. I can not knock the security guards, my toddler ran out of the front of the club house door and they grabbed him. We had a really enjoyable evening again.

The next day we packed the tent and car up, and then went for a swim in the pool.It was a bit dated but again it was clean and tidy and so were the cubicles. After we had had a swim we decided to spend the rest of the day at Colwyn Bay Mountain Zoo. It was a bit difficult to find but it was well worth the money, we paid £24.50 for two adults and one child and we spent 5 hours there .I loved just watching the sea lions swim in their tank as there are glass sides so you can actually see them swimming. There a two cafes and the food was good and reasonably priced. They do talks on some of the animals they do a sealion show, a penguin and parrot and if weather permitting a falconry display. I would recommend a day out there.

I would recommend the Ty Mawr campsite to anyone. We had a wonderful weekend, and all our needs were catered for. The only bug bear was the price at £32 a nifgt but it was Bank Holiday weekend. We are already planning to go back to the Ty Mawr in a couple of weeks. I have caught the camping bug I love it, and this time I'm buying all the gear, not that you need it we managed with out it and we had a great weekend.
