Just returned from a weekend at Budle, not been here for 6 years & think it still a great site, Pitch was perfect we had Outwell Montana 600p with extension, Mathew the warden was very helpful even walking up to pitch with us to ensure it was large enough brilliant.

This site is just 50 miles from home so not far to travel, toilets & showers are very clean & the site itself is perfect location to visit Bamburgh, seahouses, holy island.

Belford is 3 miles away & has a co op, if you have left something or need something Go outdoor in Berwick only 15 minutes up the road, Jane the other warden is helpful & friendly will be going here a few more times this season

Very quiet pleasant site with new Marshals Mathew and Jane very helpful and pleasant. Nothing to much to help us out when caravan RCD packed up.

Will definitely use again. Ideal base for Holy Island and Bamburgh castle.

We spent a very enjoyable fortnight at Budle Bay campsite, having booked with some trepidation: there are a few vitriolic reviews on Tripadvisor. The range and density of rules and chargeable extras had us worried that we wouldn’t ‘fit in’ or that we would be nickel-and-dimed to death. I suspect these are mainly intended to deter antisocial campers however, as it turns out wardens Alan and Jane are delightful and take a common sense approach to ensuring everyone enjoys their visit. It’s one of the friendliest and most relaxed sites we’ve stayed on.

The central portion of the site is occupied by seasonal caravan pitches, with EHU pitches arranged around this and non-EHU areas above, on rather a steep slope, and a flatter area to the south where the site tapers to a point. The western side of the whole is bounded by a stream, and we had a pleasant EHU pitch right next to it. The ground is good: firm underfoot without being hard, and pegs go in easily. The grass is well trimmed but the clippings are not collected. Watch out for moles. The pitches near the stream are the flattest and amazingly well sheltered from the wind. This area is partially overhung by trees. Loud, well fed wood pigeon make their presence known (I’ll be washing our tent now we’re back) and it can feel a little bit dank in very wet weather. Tent pitches aren’t marked, so we had quite a bit of flexibility about where and how we pitched, and I think lucked out. It was quiet but sociable spot, with morning sun and pleasant shade in the afternoon.

Facilities are a bit weird and the site’s only weakness. Push-button showers are arranged in grey cubicles, open at top and bottom, within an unheated block. Each press of the button gives you about 12 seconds’ water. Someone had done something ingenious with a cable tie in one of them, which meant you could lock it on and get a continuous shower. The showers drain into a trough which runs the length of the wall; the floor slope is very slight, so at busy times everyone’s feet are awash in the same water: a truly communal experience which you have to try not to think about. On the plus side, there’s plenty of space, and booths opposite with wash basins and mirrors where you can dry off, away from the general flood. The lavatories are by the same interior designer as the showers, but less scary. The gents’ hand drier (with four coat hooks placed directly and unusably above it) is broken and the single dispenser of hand towels runs out by early evening. Ditto the liquid soap dispensers. Four washing up sinks are under a lean-to roof along the outside of the lavatory block. Surprisingly, all but one of these have push-button taps too, but it didn’t turn out to be a problem. There is endless hot water, at good pressure. All these facilities close for cleaning between 11 o’clock and 1 o’clock each day. The sub-text is that they’re not cleaned or restocked outside these times – and so it proved. It’s an odd policy, and doesn’t do this excellent site any favours.

There are no laundry facilities on site, but there is a little-used coin-op launderette next to the fish-and-chip shop in Belford. The machines there are good, but it’s not kept very clean so bring a basket or a bin-liner. £3. 50 a wash (3 x £1 and 1 x 50p coins only, so save up your change) and 50p per 15 mins for the tumble driers. It’s about an hour and a half out of your day; open 9am – 9pm.

There is a children’s play area near the site entrance. Here too is the reception & shop, which sells some basics and gas and is where you’ll usually find the cheerful and helpful Jane and Alan. They are a real pleasure: knowledgeable and resourceful, they keep the site a pleasant environment. Whilst they’re chatty and upbeat and always on hand, they’re not obtrusive, but do the rounds discreetly to make sure everything and everyone is OK. When the site filled up for bank holiday week end they no doubt had to have some challenging conversations with some large and noisy groups, but this didn’t seem to diminish their positive and friendly approachability.

The location is just about perfect. It’s half way between Berwick and Alnwick with amazing beaches, castles galore and Hadrian’s Wall within striking distance, plus more sea-sidey attractions down the road at Seahouses, boat trips to the Farne islands and of course Holy Island quarter of an hour away. There’s excellent walking and a useful bus if you get tired of that. Plenty to amuse golfists and bird watchers, too. Belford and Seahouses are useful for stocking up, but don’t overlook Bamburgh’s butcher.

For a short stay this site is absolutely spot on, but after a fortnight (and we’d been at a music festival for three nights before that) the showers and lack of laundry did get tiresome. There are a lot of sites in the area, but for tents on EHU I reckon this is the best.

Just back from two weeks at this site with seven of us staying on two pitches.

First of all, I've got to mention the site team. Alan and Jane (I think that was her name), couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful during our stay. We arrived a little early but they led us straight to our pitches and made sure we settled in well. Every evening one or both of them tour the site to check everything is okay and to help if they can.

We'd check in at reception regularly to tell them where we were planning to go and they would often chip in with suggestions or alternatives to make our days out extra special.

There is a small supply of essentials in reception:milk, juice, ice cream, etc, but otherwise Belford, about 2 miles away, has a decent CoOp.

Onsite facilities are good with warm water on tap 24 hrs a day. For showers it's perfect but it could do with being a bit hotter for washing up in the 5 washing up points by the toilet block.

EHU worked fine and didn't trip out at all.

Budle Bay has some strict rules about radios and music (as in, no outside music) but that was one of the great attractions for us. (One person's music is another person's noise).

The local area has lots to offer including castles galore, Holy Isle (recommend parking and walking across. The bus will drop you off on the way back), and beaches that are long and golden and mostly empty!

Budle Bay campsite gives you a great base to explore the region and come back each night to a peaceful but welcoming site to recharge for the next day's activities.

We pre booked a pitch for a caravan with electric which was ready for us even though we arrived early. The welcome from the wardens was friendly and very informative.

This is a small site with level pitches set beside a small river, surrounded by trees and with a great view of a nearby tower on a hill.

The only downsides to this site were the grass being long which stayed wet for ages, a more regular and short trim would have made all the difference. The shower block for the gents was ok apart from the lighting sensor not working which meant showers had to be taken while it was daylight. The whole toilet/shower block for men & women is closed from 11. 00-13. 00 for cleaning, this is not a problem unless you need the loo between these times which those with children may well need!

The site has no Wi-Fi and you may find that your mobile has poor or no signal for days on end, just something to be aware of.

If you are looking for a quiet place to stay and don't mind there being no local shop, pub or other facilities then this site is ideal. The location of this site is ideal for exploring all that the area has to offer.

Ps it would look better with out the fences don't think I be back because of this

 Location

In a quiet farm and woodland setting, but close to the A1 and Budle Bay. 2 miles north of Bamburgh.

Facilities

The site owner is investing a lot to make this site successful. All facilities were nice and clean.

Overall, a lovely little site and a good base for Northumberland coast. Will certainly use again!

Literally just got home after a great 4 night stay. Wardens always happy to see you, and nothing is too much trouble. Great surroundings, they have clearly been working hard at keeping and improving the campsite grounds, facilities were always clean and working. Really nice peaceful site, great for families. Has small play area and resident chickens. Plenty of space for kids to run around, play and 'be kids'. Also next door there are generally horses and sheep, sometimes the odd pig. Also very important to note, is that this site is very close to Bamburgh, seahouses and equal distance to Berwick or alnwick, so very well situated for coastal activities etc, but has natural shelter should that sea breeze come blowing. Weather was fantastic for October, and I did ask Jane if she could leave it on for our stay. She did admit it was beyond her control, but we got it any way. We will definitely be back to budle bay again.

Just returned from a terrific three nights at Budle Bay. I find it difficult to fault this lovely site. It was just perfect for a relaxing getaway. The wardens Alan and Jane were there to greet us when we arrived, lovely people, and after a brief tour of the facilities on site Alan took us to our pitch. A perfect pitch but I also know that had I preferred another location it would have been no trouble to them at all. Judging by previous reviews Alan and Jane have transformed this site into the friendly and welcoming site have now. Nothing false about this site, all hard work and man hours to make this a place we will definitely return to. The showers/toilets and washing up area were absolutely fine and kept very clean. Adequate supplies at the reception should you run short but there are shops a few miles away for anything else. I have stayed in the area a few times over the years but this location took us out of the towns to a little quiet space which was still within striking distance of the coasts attractions. Looking forward to returning next year and beyond.

Had a short break at this site, very pleased, had a pleasant stay, the site is very quiet and peaceful, lovely countryside around about, yet close to the main visitor attractions on the Northumberland. Coast.

Clean toilets and nice hot showers, washing up area, ideal for exploring the area, or just chilling out and relaxing on site.

Will certainly visit again.
