Stayed at this wonderful campsite over the Whitsun half term and had an excellent time. The shower and toilet block was cleaned regularly throughout the day and the actual facilities were good too, including a dedicated disabled toilet and shower. There were even portable loos at the far side of the campsite for if you are caught short and they were emptied at least 3 times a day, as were the bins.

Although I didn't use it that often, the narrow gauge train station shop is a nice facility to have on hand.

The owners were very friendly and personable, always willing to chat and even offer a to your tent door delivery service for firewood.

The only thing I could wish for that this dog and campfire accommodating campsite, a rare combination, was slightly closer too the lake, but that can't be helped, and the train can get you to Bala with a view, like a mini Orient Express. The river running along the edge of the site is an excellent feature too.

Think I'll be back next year, if not sooner.

What a lovely campsite, wonderful location surrounded in every direction by beautiful views. Friendly and helpful hosts always on hand to offer advice. The toilets were clean and even though we visited on a busy bank holiday weekend they managed to cope with the numbers on the campsite. You could choose to pitch by the small river or in the larger field area. Fires were allowed and items could be purchased from the owners. Plenty to do in the area, access to Bala by bus or the narrow gauge railway at the side of the campsite was easy. All in all a highly recommended campsite.

We pitched near to the river which was beautiful and waking up with the sheep in the adjacent field was lovely! The river pitches where we pitched our tent was a little way away from the toilet block and due to the cold at night we did drive over. It is perfectly walk-able though and there are portaloos nearer but we preferred the main facilities block.

In the block there's a coin operated washing machine and dryer. We didn't use them so don't know what they're like. There's also 2 sinks for washing up and plugs (free) - very handy for hair dryer! Toilets and Showers plentiful - and clean (except a bit of mud to be expected!) Surprisingly bug-free too which is always a plus!

We went in to Bala on the steam train one day - £9 each adult return - worth every penny! Absolutely gorgeous views over the lake and great for kids and adults alike. Plenty of shops in Bala- nice cafes and reasonably priced offering beautiful home made fresh food.

The lake is beautiful for a walk (and they do plenty of other watersports and activities too.) The village of Llanuwchllyn was like a ghost town - not even a shop that we could find! We'd read great reviews of the local pub but left before ordering as it was deathly silent and we found ourselves whispering. The food is apparently great though so at a busier time it'd probably be lovely.

Camp site owners very relaxed and friendly - very nice. Fire wood cheap and fire pit needed - purchased from the owners for couple of pounds. We stayed 2 nights but you could easily stay much longer!

Idyllic site - really simple and traditional which we absolutely loved. Will be returning again soon!

Nice site kept clean and tidy, quite large and not near the lake if that's an issue, 2 portaloos down in the main camping area and adequate showers in the main block by the entrance for when it is quiet, 1 male 1 female and 1 unisex, I don't know how they would fare if its busy though.

Gripes? My only one is the fact that part of the camping ground is below an earthen ramp whilst the rest is on top, with no barriers I didn't feel comfortable with people driving along the top at night when I was below it as its unlit and there are lots of poor drivers around, it was also quite noisy.

Have just returned home from this site having spent 4 days over the 1st May Bank Holiday. You could not ask for friendlier owners - Gareth & his wife were lovely & we were made to feel like friends which was lovely.

Our girls had a blast with kites on the top field & we also enjoyed a ride on the steam railway & delicious food at The Eagle Inn. Facilities on site were always very clean & we will be returning as regulars I'm sure :o)

A1 Campsite, we are new to camping just got the bug this year. We have tried 3 different campsites around the Bala area and this one is without doubt the best.

Clean toilets, including portaloos, red hot showers (free) and best of all the location with the river and the lovely views.

Staff friendly, very helpful, always got time to chat and give you tips and hints. Price reasonable, £6 per person per night and no charge for the dog.

Fire wheels are available to hire for just £2 per visit, logs and kindling can be bought from the site,

Some very beautiful pitches are available right alongside the river, we were also treated to about 5 or 6 flypasts by the fighter planes, very impressive, and the sound of the steam train with his wooh! wooh! passing the campsite took me back to my childhood when the train used to come past my back door!

I would recommend this site to anyone and we will be sure to be returning next year.

This was our second time camping at bwch yn uchaf, we stayed for 7 nights and could've happily stayed on for longer. Gareth an his wife are lovely and very welcoming.

There is a shower and toilet block and washing facilities and they are clean. The showers are free and we never once had to wait. You could take your hairdryer. The washing machine and tumble are coin operated. Nearer the river, where we pitched, were porto loo's which we used, they were always clean and there were plenty of loo roll.

The river is so relaxing to watch and listen to, the children played in it for hours, and in the evenings we made campfires. The views are stunning. Next to the campsite is the Bala lake railway which we used often, we stopped off at Llangower one day, which we enjoyed, a lovely place for a picnic by the water, and for the kids to play. (there were toilets at the other side of the tracks.) At Llanuwchlyn station there is a little shop and a cafe. You are able to buy a weekly ticket, if you use it often it works out a lot cheaper. The railway staff are also very nice.

In Llanuwchlyn approx 10 mins walk from the site is a pub which serve fantastic food, although you'd want to book in advance as it can get very busy. We went there in the day time with the kids where they had a glass of coke and a game of pool. The shop in the village is a let down, it doesn't stock much, and was often shut, we found it easier to go to bala where there is a butcher, a green grocer,s somerfield, a spar and various other shops.

In Bala we were able to hire a canoe that sat 3 people and go on the lake for an hour, the charge was £20 with £20 deposit which you get back at the end, you are also able to hire out kayaks asw ell which I think were £10.

I would recommend this site to anyone, and will be returning again next year.

Arrived on the 10 august and unfortunately it had been raining during the day we arrived. When we got there the main site was full so we were put in the adjoining field. The ground in the field was sodden but after the awning was up it brightened up. We took a walk down to the pub and shop where we had to order a loaf for the next morning the stream running along side the site was nice and bala was only a short distance away. As an retired member of the air force watching the planes was a nice touch and not intrusive on our stay. The toilet block was clean. Other than that we had a good time and the site was good for a bit of peace and quiet.

This was our 2nd visit this year, and we were graced with fantastic weather which I have to say did not make any difference to how much we enjoyed our selves, this is one of those sites which rain or shine is just idyllic!

Our 3 kids & dog love this site, they adore playing in the river whether in swim suits or rain coats and wellies it really doesn't matter and they love going on to the top field and flying their kites and watching the stream train.

The space between the pitches is hard to beat, and all the pitches are flat, there are hard standings with electricity near the facilities or 3 big fields where you pitch where you want. The toilet, shower and washing facilities are always clean and warm and I have never had to queue even on a bank holiday. There is also two porta loos on the far field if you are caught short in the night (it is cleaned regularly!) Fresh water is available around the site and bins/recycling available both near facilities and porta loo's so you never have to walk too far.

There are plenty of things to do in and around Bala and Barmouth is always worth a visit the beach there is great (and fantastic fish and chips too)

On our last visit we found a wonderful garden (Sarnau - 4 miles east of bala follow sign posts off A494) to look round which had a fantastic wood fort in the middle of the wood with a rope swing and zip wire, the owners were so friendly and baked the most amazing cakes!

We have recommended this site to loads of friends and all have become regular visitors.

The owners are lovely, always ready for a chat and so helpful, they also have made the most fantastic addition to the site which are fire pits made out of car wheels perfect for toasting marshmellows (logs available on site).

Always peaceful, great for kids, lovely site. Looking forward to our next visit booked for later this year!

Agree with most of the above. The views around the site were sensational. We pitched right next to the river at the very end of the site and we all enjoyed playing in the water, especially Matthew our son and Molly the dog. Gareth was great, friendly and helpful. He seemed to be cleaning various bits of the site all day long. The portaloos were without doubt the cleanest we've ever used. Plenty of water points around site. The new disabled shower room was very good.

The Eagles Inn was great. Fantastic menu with great veggie choice and all genuine homemade. Very reasonably priced as well. Very friendly and good beer. What more can you want? You do need to book at busy weekends.

Fantastic base for the area. Great if you like watersports and mountains - which we do.

This site is especially good for groups although we did find some could be a bit noisy. I spoke to some youngsters who were playing very loud music from their car and they did apologise and turn it down. I guess this is the down side of a very relaxed site.

Clever way of having campfires in old car wheels on stones meant the ground didn't get trashed.

Visited this site on a bank holiday weekend stayed for 6 nights. A great place to chill out very relaxing. Bala Lake station very close by but not too noisy, nice to see a steam engine pulling the carriages
Facilities very clean and didn't have to queue even though site was very busy. Gareth was very helpful, we were made very welcome, would definitely go again.

Our first camping trip in our brand new tent and I don't think we could of picked a better site. The owner was so very helpful and nice at all times, we arrived on the friday afternoon and were offered a number of pitches. There was never a queue for the toilets or the showers or even the the area for washing your dishes, they were always very clean and free.
The area around the site was great if you liked walking and of course the narrow gauge railway. There was no noise on the camp after about 10 30 of a night.
I have thought about constructive criticism and to be honest there is none, we had 2 dogs with us and they were welcomed with open arms. I can only say good things about this site and can not wait to return

Just got back from a fab stay at this campsite. Was everything I expected / wanted it to be. Loved the fact there were no defined pitches and most of the time, apart from Sat night when there appeared to be a few groups of youths blaring out some heavy bass, it was beautifully quiet.
We had the most perfect camping weather (makes a change!) and the site was dry although I do wonder how it fares after a downpour being that it is just a field. Will definitely be going back as it was an excellent base to explore North Wales.

The weather had been very wet prior to our arrival and it was difficult to find a dry pitch, but we moved after two days onto a newly vacated pitch, which was reasonable and by moving the caravan right to the back of the hardstanding, we were able to ensure a dry walk off the pitch.

The weather was much kinder to us after our arrival and the staff were very helpful, the toilets were spotless and the laundry room very useful.

Never met Gareth, he was away on holiday I believe, but his staff do him credit.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning when in the area, superb setting and with the railway just over the fence, shopping in Bala is a piece of doddle. The steam train trip is a definite bonus!

This site is ideally situated for touring the area of mid to north wales.

Just returned from a lovely weekend at this site. Despite rain on Friday, we had a great time. Used portaloos mostly - always clean and with plenty of loo roll. Main shower blocks clean and never had to wait - even though it was a Bank Holiday and the site was busy.
Got the steam train into Bala £8.50 per adult return-worth it if everyone wants a drink rather than to drive. Ate at the Eagle Inn on Sat night - very nice and reasonably priced.
Worth booking though - we heard some people walked there on Friday night only to be turned away as they were full. All in all, great weekend and we will definitely return.
