This site is a hidden gem! Spent one night trying out new tent and as it's only a 25 min drive from Blackpool is ideal for those wanting some peace but also the opportunity of visiting the bright lights. Toilets and showers very clean, and going midweek meant we were the only ones on site other than those in the statics.
The village of St Michaels has a pub, The Grapes, which does food, but not on a Tuesday, and is within easy walking distance of the site. There is also a new eatery 'The Weird Fish' situated on the main road heading just out of the village towards Garstand by the local Fishery. The local store closes at seven and the nearest after that is a car drive away.
If using TomTom do not use the postcode, use the street name (Allotment Lane) otherwise you will not find the site easily.
A lovely site well away from the road, quiet and secluded. Stayed there for 5 days and by the end of the week, I got my head round the different codes for the toilets and the electric gate. Though there is only 1 toilet for each gender, there was never a queue.
Plenty of open space for the kids to play and with the river a short walk away, we barely saw the kids. A nice pub / restraunt 5 mins walk away does a good pint and lovely food. A shop / post office 10 mins walk and plenty of shopping in Garstang a few mins drive.
There are free roaming hens and with hens you get fresh eggs every day, in fact we bought half a dozen, recieved 5 and were told there was a hen laying the 6th, turned out to be one of the blue ones, the expensive type you get in the shops.
Will go back there again, the only draw back was the heavy rain turned the field a bit wet however my 4x4 had no problems, the farmer has a landrover defender to hand should you get stuck.
We (the girls and myself) have just spent a night here, the site is superb with grass you could use as carpet. Penny is very welcoming and gives all the information you need locally. The site is sited on the banks of the river wyre which being so close made for a very misty morning we were there. Toilets etc as mentioned is one block so might cause a bit of a problem if you need it and someone has beaten you to it, I think the site is mainly for touring caravans rather than tents and thereis stillno dish washing area. We will re-visit the site next year as it is only 25 Min's drive from home so great for the little one who gets bored but I must admit anything more than two nights would test us with the lack of facilities. If you fancy a little trip (11 miles) then it is well worth going to Knott End for fish and chips, there is a fantastic chippie there selling locally caught fish. The town of St Michaels is picture postcard and very friendly.
Wife, Two children aged 10 and 4, pooch aged 1 also me dad age N/A, stopped for two nights Friday and Saturday, lovely quiet site with friendly and cheerful owners. No park or activities for the children. Love the rabbits that pop up everywhere all day and night. Spic and span site with nice short walk by river. Plenty of hook up and water supply perfectly flat site with treeline surrounding. Would stop again if it was more child friendly.
In a nutshell, a little piece of immaculate tranquility! Only stayed one night to check it out and was impressed by the fact it was a two minute walk to the pub alongside the river (or quite literally a 20 second drive (once you leave the site entrance)). The pub is great. We sat outside in the grassy beer garden with our dog and was soon told that dogs are welcome inside so we went in and spent the afternoon playing pool! Food was good and cheap. Pub had a nice traditional feel to it. We had a long walk by the slow meandering river later in the day which was nice. Next time the Kayak comes with me. Not much there for kids at the moment but there really doesn't need to be. Camping is about creating your own entertainment.
Lovely clean, flat, peaceful site, the owners are friendly, toilet block immaculate, we never had to queue although we did stay mid week. The ice cream at the village shop is wonderful.
Small campsite, 2 fields, both surrounded and sheltered by trees. All flat grass pitches, plenty of EHU's. Shower block is very limited, only 1 room for each gender, comprising shower, toilet, sink all together, which leaves the problem of early morning "constitutional", if the rooms are being used , do you take to the woods or what ! ? as there is no other toilet facility. The shower rooms are in good order, except , done on the cheap, tiny sink, run the sink water and the shower water stops running, ( if there are 2 of you , you can use the one room ). No dishwashing facility available. Gate into the site is electric and locked, they issue you with the pass number on arrival.
Site location is excellent, in the middle of a lovely little rural village, nice pub which serves grub within 2 minute walk, village store with good selection 2min by car 10 on foot. Site is right next to River Wyre, but cannot be seen, you can walk off the site straight onto the raised bank of the river and a nice bench is there to sit on and enjoy the peace and the river, this is the way you walk to the pub as a little short-cut.
If you are into fishing , this is the place for you, fish the river by day permit £4, and lots of professionally stocked fisheries around the area, 1 within walking distance.
Owner was away when we visited and friends were caretaking the site, they were very friendly and said the owner was planning a dishwashing facility to be made ready soon.
If visiting, ask for direction where to turn off the main road into their drive, because, annoyingly, there are no signs pointing to the site, and it cannot be seen from the road, caretakers said the local council will not permit them a sign !
Overall a very nice site, if you can get over the little niggle around the toilet / shower problem, which luckily didn't affect us ! and the dishwasher area is sorted, then it can be highly recommended.
A very nice and quiet site very clean and tidy. The only problems are that there is only one shower for men and only one for ladies and both contained the only toilets on site so if someone is showering you have to wait to use the toilet . It wasn't very busy and we did spend a lot of the time out and about with Blackpool only 10 miles away ,The site did get very windy and returned to find our gazebo in a pile on the floor but we can't blame the site for the weather.
