 Well what a lovely campsite.

We arrived from Combe Martin via some very interesting roads 😊

Stayed 5 nights on a fully serviced pitch.

My wife went on a one hour horse ride which she really enjoyed and they supplied her with a helmet and boots, the cost was £40 for the accompanied ride.

25 minute minute walk into Porlock which is lovely, we had a drink in the Ship which dates to the 14th century.

The walk back is very steep in parts.

We also visited Porlock Wier by bus which was lovely.

Nice little shop on site so we tried the local sausages which were very nice indeed.

The campsite itself is located in a beautiful area with wonderful views.

Toilets and showers are kept spotless with plenty of hot water.

We are looking forward to returning.

Very pleasant quiet and peaceful little site with excellent facilities.

Approach lane off the A39 is a little narrow but no worse than many roads in the area- easily negotiated in our 7. 4m motorhome.

Nice area for walking- pleasant stroll down into Porlock although there is a quite a steep lane as you enter the village. Good walks to the south up to Horner Wood and Webbers Post.

Bus Stop at the end of the access lane (10min) with a regular, although infrequent service to Minehead or Porlock Weir all year; this improves during the summer with a more frequent service - the Exmoor Coaster that runs from Ilfracombe to Minehead.

Free site Wi-Fi is very good and the phone signal is ok.

Handy little shop.

Recommended.

Best site we have stayed on in all the years we have been touring. Great area with lots of walks, ideal for dogs and some within easy distance of coffee and cake.

Porlock is within walking distance with shops, pubs and cafe's but very hilly walking back.

Alcombe is a short drive from the site with good Indian and fish and chips take-aways.

We didn't have children with us but there's a little stream, ideal for supervised paddling, there are also riding stables.

The site owners and staff are very friendly and helpful, the shop sells local products and other essentials.

The facilities are really good and very clean, when closed for cleaning there is another block to use.

We left the site during a storm with torrential rain but Julian was helping people and had a tractor to pull vans off if needed.

Looking forward to our next visit.

Burrowhayes deserves 11 out of 10. It's well-kept and well-managed by the owner Julian, who is very helpful, approachable, and available.

The facilities are clean with plenty of cubicles for toilets, showers, and sinks, with two private wash cubicles.

The shop is well stocked and the staff is very helpful.

The river runs through the back of the site and the children love to play in the river, and build dams.

It appeared to keep them well occupied. There are lots of villages, beaches and towns to visit in the area.

We would recommend this site to families and couples.

 Couldn’t fault Burrowhayes.

The owners and staff were fabulous and very helpful.

The pitches were well spaced out and levelled off in beautiful surroundings.

The shop was well stocked with everything you could think of.

The showers and cleaning facilities were spotless with laundry facilities if you needed them.

Best site we’ve been to!

Facilities include the beautiful dog walk, free wifi, fishing, modern toilet and shower block, dog wash, working watermill (tours on most Sunday mornings), salmon pass on the weir, shop, bus service, and excellent pubs in the locality.  We've just come back from a 2 night stay and we can thoroughly recommend this site.

It's sited in a lovely part of the country and is very well maintained and the owners are very attentive.

There are plenty of hot showers and toilets which are kept very clean. (Decent shower cubicles containing a drying area with seat plus plenty of hooks and a hanging rack for your toiletries in the shower area which is something so many sites lack).

There is a small shop on site and it's only a mile walk to Porlock which has 3 pubs and plenty of shops.

There are some lovely walks from the site but please be aware that this is a hilly area (There are plenty of flat pitches but there are also some on a slope).

Amazing site. So quiet and peaceful yet enough campers there.

Serviced camping pitch right next to horse field. Lovely seeing horses and rabbits, dawn and dusk.

Owls, bats and stary skies.

Amenities the best we've ever seen. Large male & female toilet/shower rooms, potwash, launderette all in one block.

Access right off the site to the many walking trails in Horner wood. Horner Tea Garden does a wide spread of food but their Cream Tea is amazing. Horner Farm Shop does 40 different flavours of ice cream. Both a must to visit at the end of your walk with only a short distance back to camp over a lovely old cobble bridge.

Julian and Marrion friendly and helpful.

Will definitely be going again next year.

Excellent facilities.

Well illuminated at night.

Old packhorse bridges & streams to paddle in.

Lots of off road walks.

Gate at far end, path takes you through woods & into Porlock (20mins)

If you got pony/horse mad members of the family, then this place is perfect as there are riding stables on site.

Shop sells wide range of goods.

Site close to sea, Exmoor and other attractions.

Very good site, quiet and the caravans were all pitched on level ground.

There is a small shop on site for the basics and the toilet / shower block was kept clean and tidy at all times.

The staff were friendly and helpful. I had a very pleasant and relaxing stay and would certainly recommend the site.

What a beautiful campsite. We wanted somewhere within about an hour of home for the Bank holiday weekend and the reviews were good so we booked to stay at Burrowhayes.

We will definitely return again.

Booking in was quick and we were given a choice of pitches, we choose a grass pitch with electric in the larger field. It was so quiet, just the sound of birds and the stream that borders the site.

The facilities block was well designed, the toilets and shower rooms were spacious, well lit, with plenty of toilets, a privacy cubicle and a cubicle with a deeper sink, possibly for bathing younger children or babies. There were a good number of sinks for washing or teeth cleaning.

The showers were great. No push button or pay on use, just turn on and adjust the temperature which was lovely and warm with a good pressure. The cubicles had a bench seat and were separated from the shower with a partition and also a shower curtain. All was kept very clean and tidy.

There was also a laundry room, disabled room and pot wash room in this same building. There was a washing line available to use alongside.

In the reception there is a little, well stocked shop. Horse riding is available at the site. Burrowhayes borders Horner Woods, we didn't walk there this time but intend to return and explore further. Its not far up onto Exmoor and Dunkery Beacon and also into Minehead. Porlock is in walking distance with some off road walking and the rest along country lanes, be aware some parts are very steep!

A very good campsite in a beautiful part of the country.

Wonderful friendly site. Quiet and not too large.

Clean and well laid out with spacious toilet block with showers, toilets, sinks with mirrors and a separate washbasin cubicle, and baby changing cubicle. Also facilities for the disabled, laundry room and indoor dishwashing area.

Well stocked shop with chilled, fresh and frozen foods available. Also horse-riding available on site.

Highly recommended. Ideal for walkers and lovers of country life. Hope to return!

We have always liked the location and the way the site is managed.

We have camped here for over 34 years now and have always felt at home.

The newer fully serviced pitches suit us well now we are physically capable.

Mobile signals have always been a challenge here and continue to be so. Many would like this fact.

We’d often passed this site on our way to Horner Woods and thought it looked a good one to try and we weren’t wrong.

The owners & staff are all so friendly and helpful and the site is very tidy and clean. The toilets and wash cubicles were open with a one way system for Covid19. There are hand sanitizer units everywhere you need them to be, eg next to taps, chemical disposal etc.

I would say that the site was at about a third capacity when we visited on a two night, mid week break.

The first afternoon we walked into Porlock. Beware it’s a very steep walk back in one part and would be extremely dark at night so make sure that you take a torch.

The following day we walked from the campsite into the woods and straight up onto Exmoor with glorious views to the coast. We then dropped back into Horner Ancient woods and walked back via the tea rooms at Horner for a cream tea.

Whilst we were staying the site was very quiet in the evenings and the facilities always clean.

Will definitely return!

 Liked:

Location.

Facilities not used but looked well kept.

Friendly staff.

Well stocked shop and papers to order.

Good walking with dogs.

Peaceful in bottom field by river.

16 amp EHU.

Disliked.

Water logged pitch. Not their fault and Duck boards were provided. Good job we didn’t erect the awning!

Zero WiFi.

Zero mobile phone signal leaving us is in a complete black hole.

TV channels so basic as to be back in the 60s.

We wanted a fully serviced pitch but in fairness all taken. However the ones we saw were extremely close together. No screening between pitches, but I am sure they are legally compliant although a bit too close with social distancing🤪

I suspect WiFi May have been available near the facilities but it doesn’t cost much these days to run a wire and mast to the rest of the site.

The bottom field where I was only had one service station. More water pipes and disposal areas would be beneficial.

In conclusion I will not return. However at £20 per night we did enjoy very good value for money. For a few dollars more this site could rise to an excellent five star place. We are not all super fit these days and some of us do enjoy our FreeSat tv in the evening.

Really lovely site. Nicely spaced pitches and very Covid safe. Lots of Sanitiser available at all waste and water areas.

Handy shop for provisions and you can order fresh bread and croissants for the morning (which we highly recommend as we had them on both days !).

Beautiful location in amongst woodland with many, many walks directly from the site. The walk in to Porlock itself takes about 20 minutes (a bit longer coming back as the hill is a killer !).

We walked down to Porlock Weir via the Woodland Walk one way and back via the marshes which was lovely for our dog. Everywhere very dog friendly with Pubs, cafes etc all allowing dogs in. We ate in the Top Ship and it was fantastic.

We will definitely be back !
