Spent an enjoyable weekend at Beddgelert Forest camp site. Area wonderful, with great walking, fantastic views and mountains.

Camp site incredibly busy. Expected this due to it being the bank holiday weekend but we were not prepared for the numbers that they managed to cram in. The 3 metre spacing rule went out of the window at times.

Due to the amount of people the site was very noisy and this continued late into the evening and on one occasion into the early hours of the morning. The rules insisting on quiet after 22.00 and silence after 23.00 were not enforced.

Toilet and showering facilities were very good. They were kept clean at all times and despite the site being busy there were never any queues.

Washing up and laundry facilities also present and very very well kept. Site shop is basic but useful for the essentials. Children's play area is handy for the children and they can also paddle in the shallow river which is nice.

Staff on site were friendly and helpful and dedicated to maintaining the facilities.

Midges are a problem. You definitely need to bring repellent with you otherwise it is impossible to sit out in an evening.

The village of Beddgelert is very pretty, with all the facilities that you require. There is a very good pizza place that serves wonderful, freshly made food and is great for the kids.

Rain, rain, rain! Just come back from site (which was very beautiful). Pitches available were not fit to use due to bad weather and the fact that they had only been vacated that day - and drainage was terrible and had to walk though inches of water unloading camping things as we could not get the car close to our pitch - that could be improved!  Was like walking on water bed under our tent as ground that soggy and woke up to find kitchen submerged!
Toilets/showers clean and free! But was quite a walk from our pitch, particularly when it was dark or raining (which it did constantly) - I drove to the loos at night so that my husband could stay with the children - too dark and scary to walk alone - or so I thought! Pitched next to river and although noisy, can't say it was a problem.
Reception struggled to find 20p's for hairdryer - not what you want to hear when you are soaked to the skin after climbing Snowdon! But they were very polite upon arrival, but failed to mention that the gates shut at 10:30, so car was abandoned on the first night after returning from dinner to find us locked out! Luckily we had a torch or finding the tent would have been impossible due to no lighting after toilet block.
Village lovely and Saracen Hotel didn't mind children.  Village camping shop handy if a little expensive. Also village shop well equipped for basics. Didn't see a shop on site though - might have missed that one!
Overall a good stay, but would give it a miss in bad weather unless you have a choice of pitches - we had to pitch and shower our tent off when we got home as it was full of mud and we were careful when taking it down!
Forgot to mention midges - after an hour, we looked as though we had measles! Take plenty of insect repellent as the candles purchased from reception didn't seem to do the trick! Also we were warned about noisy camping - may have been because ur party had 6 children, but we're considerate campers and wouldn't dream of making noise at night!

Our second visit. Again cannot praise enough the lovely surroundings - the feeling of having your own little bit of the forest. Lovely! Nice walks into the forest - although found these by luck - they're not signed as far as I could see.
Loos and showers clean and tidy, lots of them too. Water always hot. Good facilities for washing up, also a laundry area.

Beddgelert has to be one of the loveliest villages in amazing countryside. Just fab!

I love this site. However, on both occasions the arrogant attitude of the manager has been evident.

We liked the surrounding countryside and streams.  It is great to be camping in the forest.  The toilet blocks and showers were very good.  They have a shop, basic, but gets you through.  My children enjoyed playing their and met lots of friends.  It is a dark site, others we have been on had lights throughout the campsite at nite being on a professional site.  There is not much reception for your mobile but there is a public phone box on site.  The reception parking when checking in is a little difficult to park up.  It is BEST to book direct to get the pitch you want instead of booking online.
The Manager gentleman requires some customer service as he is very abrupt, sharp and can make you not want to be a customer there again.

We booked this site on the basis of their web site for a week. We knew there would be trees, but the photo on the website showed views from the site of the Snowdon range so we thought it couldn't be too bad. However the website is very misleading.

If you like forests and trees, it's great as all the main pitches are in the forest, right under the trees (and I'm not talking a few here). The small clearing that you do get views of the mountains from are for tents only. The toilet blocks were spotless and well-maintained, and there was a small shop.

Personally we didn't like it - too dark, no views at all and loads of midges. (It's all a matter of personal taste, but we like to see where we are, i.e. We travelled to Snowdonia to see the mountains, so we'd like to see them as much as possible, ta!)

The member of staff at reception was very sympathetic and friendly when we cancelled the rest of our booking (to move to a stunning little site up the road). The manager then came to speak to us; he was reasonable, although he seemed to take it a bit personally, but the female who accompanied him was extremely rude, making loud snide comments about our choice of pitch as they walked away which left me livid. Not a site we ever intend visiting again. We've had a good experience with a Forest Commission site in the New Forest and one in Wareham Forest however, so we won't let this one put us off.

This is the most beautiful plot which is part of the Forestry commission.  It has hardstanding and has a lovely river next to it. Clean amenities and the next time I go to Snowdon I will be staying here. In fact I will be staying in a forestry commission in Scotland next year as they have really impressed me.

Have just returned from a lovely weekend at this campsite and can thoroughly recommend it.

There are a choice of areas you can pitch in (unless you have EHU). We liked the look of being near the river, which is further away from the facilities but decided to pitch near the playground as we had little ones with us and this meant we could easily keep an eye on them.

This was like a village green and on a slight slope. They don't allow cars onto the green as there are children around, but we could get the car near to the pitch in order to unload. There was however a road separating the green and the playground, so the kids did still need to be careful.

The toilet and shower blocks were keep clean and never had to wait to use the showers (which were OK, but not brilliant)

Didn't have much need to use the shop, but they did stock the basics. Didn't have an ice block swap facility, but you could rent some whilst you were there (£1 deposit and 30p for each block).

As there were different areas to pitch, it never felt like the site was busy (even though it was full) and was quite peaceful.

The sound of the river meant I didn't sleep particularly soundly, but that's the price for a lovely site.

Yes, we did get bitten by the midges!

Great pizza place in the village which had a good choice of food (not just pizza) and did a kids menu. It also had a lego and bead table to keep the children amused. You can also take your own wine.

Hope to return soon.

We visited this site which is beautiful at Easter (07). The pitches leave a lot to be desired as we could not fit our awning on the pitch and our friends only just managed to squeeze their awning onto their pitch but were so close to an embankment that they had to put rocks around rather than peg the awning down as A: there was no room for pegs and B:the ground was so hard. My brother in law was also out with us for the weekend and I specifically asked before booking were the pitches level as they have a Motorhome and I was categorically assured more than once that indeed the pitch for them was level but on arrival it was very obvious that the pitch was not level and we were not very happy but the wardens would not compromise and I felt were mostly (all bar one) unprofessional.

Beddgelert is very beautiful and the campsite is lovely just be wary of the pitch you book! Toilets and showers were clean. There was some dog poo on the site which also put me off from re booking.
Because of the pitches being poor we asked for our money back so we could move elsewhere but the wardens would not let us so we were stuck there!

We stumbled across this site purely by accident after a previous arrangement feel through. We found the staff to be extremely helpful and friendly and have a beautiful staff with huge eyes! Gorgeous!

We camped next to the river which we have always wanted to do. (we found it a little rocky but doable) It was very cramped though and no room for our gazebo. The river attracts children and dog walkers all day which is not great if you want a peaceful holiday. We also witnessed some bullies who took pleasure in throwing rocks at other children playing there.

The river is very noisy at night when your trying to sleep and also provided useful cover for the thieves who crossed it to steal from several campers during the night which was very disturbing.

A dog friendly site, all dogs must be kept on leads, some decided to flout this rule and encourage an attack on my dog but a quiet word to the staff soon sorted it out who again were understanding and friendly.

Toilets were clean and tidy.

My girlfriend and I returned to this campsite to do some more walking during the Easter holidays and were very satisfied once again with our stay. We were expecting the site to be quite busy due to the uncharacteristically nice weather but were happy to find that the site was not particularly overcrowded. Once again, we found the staff warm and welcoming and I was quite surprised that one of them could remember us from our last visit in October. Like previous visits, the toilets, showers and washing-up room were all clean and tidy. There were some unusually noisy campers on the first night of our stay who seemed to be having a 'who can drunkenly sing the loudest?' contest but I have never noticed a problem with this before and it didn't continue after that one night. There were some school parties camping on the 'village green' area near the entrance to the site so I'd avoid pitching there if like a bit of peace and quiet. The pitch we chose this time around was quite stony and I ended up ruining about five or six tent pegs in the process of putting the tent up. All in all we were once again very happy with our stay at the site.

We visited this site at easter. Really cant fault it. Staff really friendly and helpful, scenery fantastic with really nice walks close by and showers etc really good. Only thing is, when it rains, which it did on us alot, can be quite noisy under the trees. But apart from that great. We're looking to go back this year sometime if we can fit it in

Max and Paddy's First Van Adventure to Wales!

Having previously stayed at Cae Du Campsite down the road on many occasions we noted that Cae Du had closed for the season by the end of October so we discovered this Forest Holidays site tucked away in the trees going out of Beddgelert in the opposite direction.

The site was very clean including the showers and toilets and electric hookups worked well - when we eventually figured out how to get the electrics in the new 'van working - well it was our first time away without the tent!

The site has good yet basic facilities but Beddgelert village is just a short walk away.  The sites location makes it great for going walking.

We'll be going back here again so it must have been good.

Just a quick point to the powers that be - when a customer has travelled to the site it is customary to greet them with a smile and some warmth.  The gentleman that checked us in to the site almost put me off what is otherwise an excellent site.

Stayed for one night, very reasonably priced and toilets and showers very modern and included in price. Washing up facilities very good. There was a shop and childrens' playground as well but we didn't use them.

Situated in the middle of the forest and pitches are quite well spread out amongst the trees, not regimented with 2 foot to the next one like some sites.

One member of staff was quite rude but all the others were very welcoming and I suppose we all have off days!

Plenty of walks throughout the forest on signed paths. Quiet site for being quite large. Take a torch though as lights at night are limited.

As said before this is a very well run campsite with a no nonsense attitude.  Everything quietens down by ten pm and the wardens do patrol to make sure everything is OK.  This gives a nice secure safe feel to the place.  Facilities are clean and plentiful with washers and dryers available.  The only thing I would say is take some rock pegs if camping as ground has slate under it.

A really lovely site - good facilities and delightful location in the forest with 2 rivers bordering the site. Felt safe for younger children. Even despite the rain we had a lovely time. One particular member of staff (deputy manager perhaps?) very pleasant and helpful throughout our stay.

However - a word of warning. We booked through the central booking agency for Forest Holidays and were assured that the pitch booked was suitable for our needs, as each one was 6mx6m. When in fact we were almost turned away as there was no pitch big enough (just found one we could squeeze on to. I was told that I could book 2 pitches next to each other but would have to book both with EHU (only one needed), in fact pitches are given on a first-come-first-served basis so we paid for EHU and were camped together only because I requested that the other half of our party use a 'space' at the rear of our tent. The manager was totally unsympathetic and said he "only had my word for it" that we had been given poor information over the phone. When I challenged his attitude I was threatened with eviction. The manager did eventually 'mellow out' and help us by us a finding us a pitch - however a stressful experience - this was first time camping too.
