May 03 and April 04 Visited last year and had a great time despite rain!!! So decided to go Easter 04 and take 4 other families with us. Oh dear, not sure what's happened on this site but there seem to have been changes in the way things are run. The site itself is fantastic, really pretty, however you can no longer choose pitches, first come first served, which proved a problem for some bigger vehicles, I even saw one poor person having to site virtually on top of the motorhome waste area. The lovely big shop has shut down. The showers were filthy, and some were out of order. The toilets were backed up and had to be shut aswell. Manager didnt seem to know how to deal with everyone, it was jam packed. Requests for extra nights were declined, even though we stayed longer and there were plenty of spare pitches when people left on Bank Hol Monday. I think the authority has been taken away from managers on site and the site is in effect being run from Forestry commision head office - in Scotland. Its a real shame and I hope things improve, as the area is really lovely.

Feb 2004 We have used this site a number of times over the last few years, mainly in the winter months. We have just returned after a weekend there, not so pleased this visit. Most of the toilets were locked and the place was not as clean. They used to post up the mountain weather forecast, but this was not available. Still this is a good site and we will visit again shortly. Hope this was just a one off disappointment

25th-29th Aug 03 We had a fantastic time at this camp site. The toilets and showers were very clean and tidy, there was a park on site which was good. The staff were very helpful and there was lots of space on the site to pitch wherever you liked. The village was 2-3mins in the car and they have a really nice ice-cream shop!!!. Would go back without a doubt.

july 2003 I fully agree with all other reviews. Superb site, clean facilities, lots of midges. And lots of rain, which eventually flowed straight through our tent... Our pitch became really muddy, but that's just bad luck; in most places the ground could cope with the amount of water. We were grateful for the roof over the washing-up area, and the laundry-room! There's one thing I noticed: in bad weather the clouds keep hanging over the mountains and rain doesn't stop, while in the coastal area (30 min. drive), the sun breaks through. Maybe thats why we'll pick a coastal camp-site next time. If we were to go to other places in Great-Britain, we would first look for sites of the Forestry Commision!

2003 Agree with all of the above but would like to add that if you have a smallish tent you can camp right down by the river and all pitches can be reserved.

June 2003 We arrived in a tent to find a very clean well appointed site. toilet and shower blocks were modern and well maintained, the site shop was also found to be well stocked. plenty of tourist information was available. all staff were friendly and helpful. ground found to be quite good for pegs however not partcularly level. biggest down side was the midges which stopped us from being able to sit out at night ( mosquito candles could'nt cope). which was the only reason we chose to move to a different site.

july 2002 The site was very good, we especially liked the surrounding countryside. The showers and toilets were very clean, the midges were not a problem when we had the mozzie lights which we bought from the camp shop.

August 2002 I have been asked to submit a review of this site, which I am pleased to do. We chose this site on a recommendation from a Scouting friend of mine who has a caravan. We have a Conway Olympia Trailer Tent and went to the site with two of our children aged 11 & 13. It was a terrific site that was well equipped and clean. The showeres were excellent and the toilets clean. There is a washing up room and a laundry all in a lovely wooden building that was in keeping with the surroundings. In fact it was nice to sit at the benches there watching the bats flying around at night. The shop is extremely well stocked with a wide range of goods on sale. The location of the site is perfect, Beddgelert is a short walk away (if you are reasonably fit) or a shorter drive if you really must. There a lot of places to eat and drink for such a small village and there are a couple of excellent outdoors shops that sell most things you could think of for the great outdoors ... so if you forget anything don't worry you are bound to get it there. Back at the site you are hidden from the road as it is in a forrest (well signposted though). The views from the site are wonderful. There are hundreds of walks and climbs around the immediate area for everyone from beginners to experienced. Caernarfon is not far away and Snowdon is about half an hours drive. If you have young children the site has a very good and safe adventure play area that is close to the offices and shop. the staff are very very helpful and friendly. We were given valuable advice about local routes and updates on weather, they will recommend walks to suit your ability. We thoroughly recommend the site and can't wait to go back again.

May, August 2002 This is our favourite site so far - very nearly a 10/10! Beautiful walks round about - including through the site itself. Showers and toilets very clean. Whole place peaceful and friendly. Beware, though, of midges - go very well prepared to be eaten. This will definitely be the first one we visit in 2003 - can't wait!
