Absolutely lovely huge site, nice and scenic all the staff are helpful. The only down side to this site was two of the three toilet/shower/washing up blocks wasn't great.
And the only nice one was right at the main gates witch is where all the caravans are. There are no family wash rooms so majestic it aa bit hard with young kids.
The approach to the site is a tortuous route up a narrow steep hill with cars parked on one side. You are sent an email with your pitch number prior to arrival and on the day they email you the current barrier code together with T&Cs, a site plan and some other attachments that won’t open.
On arrival the place has a neglected feel to it and you have to manoeuvre round a fairly narrow concrete road to find your pitch. We had difficulty getting on to our pitch as there were some commercial vehicles parks randomly in the area.
We set up and took stock. The showers and toilets in the middle of the site were best described as tatty and tired, not helped by being very dirty, and despite both of us being in need of a shower we decided to use the one in the caravan. Water not a problem as there are many scattered round the site.
Not unexpectedly as the schools have just broken up so we were prepared for the noise but not still going on well after midnight added to several groups of people obviously partying on especially a large group of Eastern Europeans talking very loudly nearby.
We hitched up and left first thing in the morning. The people who have taken over the site recently have a real job on their hands to get this place up to some sort of standard, we certainly won’t be returning, there is little to attract in the area as Hastings is a very down at heel place
Not too impressed at £28 per night. I linked to their own directions and ignored my cars sat nav and found myself up against a 6ft 6in width restriction with my caravan, would have thought they checked.
Site located up a very steep road with cars parked all the way down and you just hope that no-one comes the other way, then the very narrow part with bushes on the right hand side, very, very tight.
Site is basic and beginning to get tatty, confusing to pitch and just nobody around most of the time. Has this site just been taken over by the chalet company across the road? Waste water aimed at the washing up rooms drain outside?
Bin lorry twice emptied the rubbish at 5. 45 AM. Just nobody seemed to care about the touring site.
The access road to the site is very tight when towing a caravan and faced with multiple parked cars, upon arrival to the site you go through a security barrier and straight to your pitch, at least you should, but someone was parked on ours already! I tried to call reception, but had to call five times before I got someone to answer, then she directed us to another pitch with someone also on it and finally told us to pitch anywhere! No one came to speak to us about the problems we had with our pitch, I wasn't happy with the reception and management of the park at all. The site was waterlogged and extremely muddy, I have never stayed anywhere so muddy except for a music festival! Wellies were definitely required. The washrooms were basic but had recently been painted and were always kept very clean.
The leisure area was good, the pool was the warmest I have been in! However you are looking at having to pay £4 per person to get in, this soon adds up when there are several of you and you want to make use of the pool. The Gym consisted of a couple of exercise bikes and a rowing machine, not sure it can really be classed as a gym?
The bar was very nice, drinks and food a reasonable price and the food a good standard. There was absolutely no entertainment at all for adults or children despite me staying the middle week of the Easter holidays.
Without free entertainment, swimming etc, this was very overpriced as all I essentially paid for was a pitch and some electric in the middle of a very muddy field. If I wanted to stay somewhere without entertainment a pool etc I can stay at sites much cheaper than Shear Barn. I would consider going back, but only if there were no other sites in Hastings that offered a better value, I would sadly struggle to recommend the site to friends either.

Please note this location was previously known by two names ShearBarn Holidays and Hastings Touring Park. They have now become one, which is now known as Shear Barn Holidays And Touring. It merges the camping / touring and the holiday homes aspects into one.
Just 15 minutes from Ashford and 25 minutes from fabulous beaches, you'll be ideally placed for exploring the Garden of England. The park is divided into a family area, that is close to the play parks, the sports field and the games room, and a peaceful adult-only area in The Meadows, that is ideal for couples. A range of grass and hardstanding pitches, fully serviced or non electric, catering for all sized of tents and caravans.
On both areas you will enjoy five-star, centrally-heated showers, and private cubicles with toilet, hand basin, dryers etc. Laundry and campers kitchens, a large childrens playground, sports field, games room and television lounge. The park has CCTV and WiFi is available for a small fee. A dog walking area is provided on site. Find out more here
We are staying here currently and after reading previous reviews I am pleasantly surprised. We are staying near the entrance and the showers are clean, hot and powerful. It is a very nice site. The bar adjacent to the site is good but at peak times you need to book a table for a meal to get a seat. The site is accessed but several steep narrow roads which is fine for experienced towers. Hastings can be walked to in about 29 minutes (longer on the way back as very steep hills)
I stayed at this site for a weekend visit to Hastings. It's location is good if you want to walk down into Hastings itself which is why we chose this site. It took us around half an hour to walk in with children.
It is a large site, but we visited during low season so was quite quiet.
The facilities are unfortunately not up to scratch.
A shower block in the middle of the campsite reminded me of an old school toilets and the showers that everyone hated being made to have at the end of pe lessons. Pipes being cable tied together to try and stop leaks and door locks not working properly. It generally had a grimey feel. There was another, more up to date shower area at the entrance of the camping field which was a little better, but although having more newer facilities really wasn't much better in terms of cleanliness. Many large patches of mould and other dirty brown marks in the showers.
The staff seemed quite friendly when checking in, although didn't seem to want to be very helpful, my brother was also staying at the same time as us and when we asked if a pitches could be closer together we were told that it wasn't possible, even though there was plenty of free spaces for the whole time we were there.
As I said, we only stayed at this park because of it being a base for us to walk into Hastings and for this it was ok for just the weekend. I would not like to spend a whole week here, especially in high season.
This prices are also certainly too high for such poor facilities
This site is very convenient for walking into Hastings it only takes about half an hour. The pitches are OK, reasonably sized and spaced and in different fields to make it feel more sheltered. The facilities were not very good though. The toilet and shower block near the main gate was acceptable. It was modern and the shower cubicles quite big but was a bit dirty. With brown staining around the walls and fittings. The toilet and shower blocks in the middle of the field near where we were, was just yuk. The toilets were dirty with 'mess' smeared up the cubicle walls that stayed there from Friday till Sunday. And the showers looked so bad I didn't go near them. I used the main ones instead which as stated were OK.
We arrived at the reception to greeted by a lovely lady who booked us in asking if we had any club cards which we had but not presenting them because it being high season, she discounted our stay quite considerably, our pitch was very level and being over sixty quite close the toilet block. Our dog Buddy had a great time as there was plenty of places for me to walk him, there is a very good shop and bar with a very good terrace area.
We could walk to Hastings via the downs and used the cliff lift to the old town where there are plenty of shops, restaurants and vibrant pubs, we were there during the Pirates week end which was fantastic the locals really know how to get involved and enjoy their festivals.
Will definitely use the wonderful site again. We are both pensioners and a three year old rescue dog Buddy.
It's really good to follow up with good news so here goes.
I've never had any issue with facilities etc here, my problem last month was with their pricing etc (see my review from last month below this one). Well it seems like the powers that be have moved quickly, prices frozen, back to just low and high season rates (mid season tariff has gone) and a 3 nights for two on all 2016 visits booked before end of May. On top of that they've organised the pitches much better giving more space and room to move about without tripping over guys etc.
Because of this I stayed here when I needed to go back to Hastings unexpectedly, had four nigh on perfect nights here, many thanks again to the resident wardens, two of the nicest I've met on my travels.
Change in star rating reflects the changes made in the last couple of weeks.
Set in 500 acres of beautiful, rolling Kent countryside. The Oast village on site is the World's largest Oast house collection and makes for a spectacular backdrop. Grass and hardstanding pitches for caravans, tents and motorhomes with electric option. Modern toilets and showers and multiple washing up facilities.
Small shop onsite and pub/restaurant at the entrance. The River Medway flows through the site, providing idyllic waterside pitches. Make the most of the location and try your hand at canoeing or fishing or simply sit back, unwind and enjoy wildlife spotting. Five minutes' drive from Paddock Wood station and trains to London Find out more here
Before I get doing just want to say that there's two new wardens here this year, two of the nicest people you'll ever meet, brilliantly helpful and friendly to boot, the problems I had with this visit were nothing to do with them.
As usual the site was great, grounds well kept, toilets and showers spotless and worked brilliantly, washing up facilities top notch and to be fair I've been coming here for 25yrs and never had any issue with the facilities.
My problem is with their pricing, this site used to be good value but it seems that over the last year or two they're pricing themselves out, especially for me, a bloke, a motorbike and a tent with electric hook up is not worth £26 a night two weeks into April (not half term). Their website needs updating, the low and peak tariffs they advertise don't relate to the low, mid and peak rates they actually charge you, when I queried the price when I called to book I was told it was because they were busy, when I got there there was me, another tent and a motorhome on site, place was empty. Oh yeah, anyone else think £2 a day for wifi is a tad much?
We booked the disabled pitch as my wife has cancer and other debilitating conditions. Huge mistake. It was the worst pitch being stuck in the corner next to all the bins which are emptied at 5 in the morning. Cleaners then arrive at 6 and have no consideration about the tent right in front of them.
Vehicles get parked in front and by the side of our tent. Terms and conditions of the site state in capital letters no commercial vehicles. We counted at least 3 parked together, and alongside our tent.
Stayed here Fri-Sun, thought it was lovely. We arrived late around 9pm, lovely gentleman came to greet us and directed us to a pitch of our choosing. Decided to go onto top field, shower/toilet blocks were extremely clean with very powerful showers, water could have been hotter ( but I like quite a hot one) no complaints from me. It was beautifully quiet and enjoyed the time so much we are returning this Friday. Loads of space friendly staff and Hastings town just a few minutes away.
This was our second visit to Hastings Touring Park (they had been our saviours a couple of years ago!) This is one of the most friendly, helpful sites we have ever stayed on and if it were nearer to home we would visit it more often. The site is very well kept and pitches are of a good size. There were 3 families with Touring Caravans and 5 Couples (+ children) (in lodges on Shearbarn Holiday Park) in our party and we had a fabulous time. Toilet/shower facilities were clean but could do with another hook or two in the showers to hang up your stuff whilst washing. Hastings is a little hilly and one of the couples' car could not cope with towing their caravan up a hill but that is something that a more powerful car could overcome. The shop at Shearbarn keeps a stock of essentials and the Retreat Bar serves up lovely food and entertainment. The swimming pool is nice and clean although you may have to book in peak season and you can only have an hour each session which you have to pay for. The views are amazing and the surrounding area has lots to keep you entertained. I thoroughly recommend a stay here and will definitely go back.
