We stayed here over Easter The grass had not been cut on our pitch making it look very scruffy. The field had been churned up by a tractor so resembled a ploughed field. The toilets were filthy. The chemical toilet disposal area looked as if it had never been cleaned, it was revolting!. The security barrier was locked at 2a.m. But you couldn't get out again with your car before 9 a.m. Unless you left your car out on the road all night. We paid extra for use of the bar and entertainment and then found out anyone can walk in off the street and use this for free. A large mound of mud that had been churned up was near to our pitch, not nice viewing. We have been offered a complementary weekend but do not wish to return even for free! We spoke to a lot of people who also shared our views

This campsite was a very nice one. The touring pitches were very spacious. Toilets were reasonable but had no hot water. Whilst we stayed for the 4 nights the boiler had packed in and work men were there trying to fix. Fortunately they have a new block near the entrance which was spotless and very warm which was a relief.
The clubhouse is very nice, just been built with a lovely swimming pool. The only thing is it is not very big and cost £2 to swim. Entertainment was very good for adults but nothing for children. No arcardes there as advertised, apparently there used to be but not any more. Everyone fighting to get on the pool table as this was the only thing for them to do.
Badgers to exit we did hear them outside the awning, which was a bit worrying, but we was in the caravan nice and safe, the the seagulls were even more noisey. They do have signs up in the toilets with reference to the badgers and your belongings. Lots of things to do around Hastings, but this site is not ideal for bikes as this is up lots of big hills! Very quiet campsite at night cars are not allowed to be started up after 11 and the gates are locked until 7am.

This was our first trip in our caravan after buying it, so was a bit nervous. The comment earlier about registering at the reception before heading up the lane to the touring pitches was a good tip (reception is through the barrier next to the shop) because I forgot about it and had to send the wife back down the lane to register and get the code for the barrier to get in (with a few cars waiting behind me!), luckily while she was away a very kind warden let me in.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and helped in in every way possible as a newbie.
Swimming pool was very good as well as all the facilities and being new to this I found everything straight away. Having two very small children then play areas were very good especially as we were situated next to one and was able to watch the kids from the comfort of the caravan.
We found the shop to have a good selection and the bar had a small soft play area for small kids.
As our first experience we thoroughly enjoyed it and and are looking forward to going again asap.

We visited this campsite with high expectations and all of them were met! including the Badgers! This site is lovley and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The campsite is in a wonderful area, and we went in a tent and the tent field was great. we made some good friends (hello ian and sue!) and we walked in the country park, which i highly recommend.

On the downside, there didnt appear to be any hot water in the ladies loos apart from the showers, which are perfect at any time of day (or night, id imagine!) the only other grip was the music in the club room was so loud i couldnt hear myself speak, or listen to others. We asked for it to be turned down, and it gradually crept up again, and it wasnt the best music either!!!!

All in all, its a great place to go - but i dont think teenagers will enjoy it, theres not much for them to do. Everyone i spoke to is a regular there, which says alot for the site!

And as an extra, go to the indian on queen street on a sunday, there 6.00 buffet is amazing!

We enjoyed our recent stay at ShearBarn, we had plenty of space for our tent, the views were lovely and its really quiet. The only gripe I do have is that the toilets in the tent field were not cleaned in the 4 days we were there. I know the site were having some problems in their main building so maybe this was an exception but some of the toliets got blocked and the showers in that block were pretty pathetic too.
TIP: Use the showers at the pool which are lovely! You do have to pay £2 (adult) to use the pool however!
There is a nice bar/cafe with pool table, the leisure centre and shop are a bit of a walk from the tent field (better for caravans) but its ok. Generally a good site.

We have just returned from a 2 night break at Shear Barn. The most important thing to note, if towing, is to stop and book in at the first sign, and not to continue to the touring field until checked in. This was a mistake we made, and the stress from trying to turn round was almost unbearable. The kids loved the pool and playground facilities. The pitches were spacious with a lot of central field space for them to play on. The toilet blocks were clean and functionable. The shop was well stocked, even if most products aren't priced. Very near to the country park, so good base for walking. Lovely views from Bar, although drinks are expensive - £6.20 for a pint of strongbow, J2O fruit juice and two cokes.

This site had very clean showers and toilets, and the staff were very helpful. They were still renovating the entertainment facilities, but the bar has a small soft play area, suitable for very young children. There is a small play area in the touring field, and a bigger one near the main complex. When the renovations are finished it will have a swimming pool, and looks like it will be a very nice site.
It is quite near -15 minutes walk- to the country park, and about a 30 minute walk to Hastings.

As the weather forecast improved for the Whitsun weekend we decided on the Friday morning that we would go away, so I had the job of phoning around various sites to find one with availability. After failing several times I tried Shearbarn and was pleased to find they had pitches available. I booked there and then and we were off straight from picking the kids up from school.
On arrival we found loads of space and pitched in a good position between a toilet/shower block and play area, but a safe distance from both to be comfortable. As the weekend wore on we were more and more impressed with the site. Even though it was busy there was still plenty of space for the kids to play. They have a quiet period at night between 11pm and 7 o'clock and the site is continually being checked out by the 'noise police' who enforce this.
The toilets/showers were cleaned twice a day. The showers were a bit feeble because they were old but there is a newer block which are most probably better. They did the job though and they were nice and hot. The clubhouse was warm and comfortable with pretty good entertainment on the Fri and Sat nights. Unfortunately the band didn't turn up Sunday but we weren't expecting anything that night anyway as nothing was advertised. Drink prices were pretty good and they have quite a comprehensive menu.
The site itself was excellently kept and all of the staff were friendly and efficient. Overall we had a brilliant weekend camping - the best one so far and we will definitely be returning to this site again.

Plenty of space to pitch - the field we were on didn't have marked pitches - we were told to drive to that field and pitch where we liked (good for groups of campers / those with v. large tents).

Shower block not too big, hot water ran out on our first morning - we learnt to get up earlier (but showers are free).

Very nice heathland next to the site, and as Natalie1 says, a nice walk down to Hastings along the cliffs (about 30 mins with our two kids) - you can get the funicular railway down the cliff, but it stops at 5.30 pm, so you may have to walk back up if you miss it.

We got our tent last year and decided not to go far for our first outing, you never know just what it is possible to leave behind until it gets dark. So Shear Barn was our destination, an hour down the A21.
The touring and camping site is just up the lane from the main site, with it's well stocked shop and club house. The club house is very well thought out, it has a main hall for the standard bingo and dancing. Plus a games room for the kids, but down stairs is a quiet bar, so you can get a nice pint without the pub crooner belting in your ear.
The site is in a fantastic position on top of the cliffs above the old town, there is a bus service, but by far the best way to go is over the country park, and down the cliffs in the cable car. Once in the town you can visit the fresh fish stalls in preperation for that nights BBQ. There's loads to do for the big and little kids.
The touring site has it's own after dark noise police, so it's nice and quiet. We have been back a couple of times since and made quite a few friends. Do give it a try, it seems to have most things for most people.

We love this site.It is easy to travel to for weekends for us, and we have always found Shear Barn lovely and clean. We have only ever used the first shower block so can't comment on the other ones, but this one has always been lovely and clean with plenty of hot water and seperate little washing areas as well as communal washing area's.The showers are good and it is also kept pretty warm inside the block. The views from the site are fantastic, looking out to sea from the cliff top.The club on site has good entertainment of an evening. But I think teenagers would find it pretty boring so would need to go into Hastngs itself for their entertainment.
Thumbs up from us- although we have no youngsters as they have now grownup.

Absolutely brilliant for walkers!! This park is in the middle of Hastings Park & you could literally walk 4 days!Showers r really hot & for as long as you want! The only thing that needs to be redone is the grey waste holes in the road by the shower block (not dirty, but hard to direct water). Y am I telling you lot this anyway? Want this for myself!!!!

Shear Barn has provided my family with many happy holidays. The views are beautifull, you are up on a cliff over looking the sea.

Facilities are excellent, washrooms are clean, nice hot showers(although you need to get there early as the hot water does run out by 11ish).There are washing up facilities over looking the sea,a club house with good entertainment, pool tables a small amusements room. Take away and a small shop. There are beautifull walks nearby. playgrounds sandpits etc.Dogs are also welcome.

Very reasonable rates. Well worth a try.
