We're just back from 4 nights at the croft campsite, we don't want to be home! Put simply we adore everything about this site, it ticked all our boxes, generous pitches, immaculate showers and toilets, plenty of space for the kids to play and lovely friendly owners. There is a barn with picnic tables for if the weather isn't brilliant and also fridges, freezers and powerpoints to charge phones etc. There is another barn with table tennis and table football for The kids (and adults!) The indoor washing up area was clean and spacious with plenty of hot water.
The surrounding area is beautiful, you are surrounded by fields but there are a variety of shops not too far away. Southwold and Lowerstoft are an easy distance also.
The owners really make this campsite, so friendly and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble, We cannot wait to return.
Our second stay at The Croft gave us far better weather and really showed the qualities of the site.
Large flat pitches, good grass, great amenities block, large playing field, large covered cartshed with picnic tables, fridge freezers and fantastic firepits to hire!
A part road/part path walk to the pub/shop in Laxfield provided all the off-site activity we needed for the weekend.
This is a new quiet family site, dog friendly with features that make for a great stay, yes there are a few things to completely finish off but its great already. Guy & Maria are doing a great job with their brand new site, keep it up as we will be back!
Just got back from 4 nights camping at The Croft with my Wife and 13 year old son. What a Brilliant campsite, situated in the quite Suffolk countryside. The showers are temperature controlled and always had plenty of hot water. The washing up area has 3 very large sinks again never short of hot water. All the amenities were very clean and kept clean throughout the day.
A large field for kids (and adults)to play games on without annoying other campers, free table tennis and table top football under cover.
Maria & Guy(the owners) what a lovely couple they are, so friendly so helpful nothing seems to be too much trouble. Well worth a vist to this campsite, if this was more local to us we would vist it on a regular basis.
The perfect campsite for a relaxing holiday. We arrived on Friday evening, in time for the barbecue, which was a fantastic start to our weekend - it was great not having to worry about cooking after setting up. On Saturday morning, we also opted for croissants and pains au chocolat, so, all in all, great for us lazy campers!
The site is very new, so the hedging and trees need time to grow, but it is very well laid out, with good sized pitches. The shower block is not quite finished, but is fully functional, with good temperature regulation. An beautiful old barn provides a large covered area, with picnic benches, and also has fridge/freezers, so this really is stress-free camping! A marquee housed table tennis and table football, which kept the kids entertained when they weren't running around outside. We also particularly liked being able to borrow a fire pit, for the kids to toast marshmallows and the adults to sit around once we'd packed them off to bed.
The location is very rural (very quiet), about 15-20 minutes drive from the coast, and also a very easy drive from the A14, so from Cambridge it was a perfect base for a weekend. We will be back!
We loved this small friendly site. The games tent and play field were perfect for our 2 boys. V little car movement on site made it very quiet and safe. Lovely days out at coast and National Trust. The owners are lovely and friendly. Round and about but not overbearing.
This is a family run campsite and we were made to feel very welcome.
Good points; reasonable sized flat pitches separated by hedgerows, grass cut regularly, firepits available to hire, good facilities, a brand new shower and toilet block with hand driers and a washing up room, a three sided barn with picnic tables for wet weather dining and socialising, a large marquee with multiple table tennis tables and table football, hot croissants and bacon rolls available at weekends!
Good location; Good food and atmosphere at the family friendly village pub, The Royal Oak. Less than half an hour to the coast, plenty of room for children to play.
Not so Good; although it is located on a country road there was some road noise, as its new there is little character to the site but they are trying really hard to create a good atmosphere.
We had a lovely weekend and would happily recommend this site to other campers, as it’s a new site it was very quiet when we were there so not sure how it would be if busy but definitely worth a try. We wish them good luck.
We arrived on the opening day, having been warned that things might not be 100% complete. They were not, but that really didn't matter. There were working toilets and hot showers. That's pretty much our essential list covered.
The pitches are flat and on good grass (have been given a pitch on mud, a bog and weed on other campsites before). They are well spaced out which is good as our tent is embarrassingly large and for complex reasons around school finishing times, we had two cars but we didn't feel cramped at all. The pitches have been marked out with small whips / transplants which are already forming low hedges so it will look really nice as the planting matures.
The covered barn is a really nice idea and a pull for the children to meet up with new friends.
We walked to Laxfield (watch out for the bee hives en route - I was stung) where there is a great real ale pub. There's a second pub with a pop up tea room which was really quaint. Also a CoOp in Laxfield.
We also drove to Southwold. Should take about half an hour unless, like me in a new car with an untested sat nav, your sat nav uses the 'as the crow flies' method and then it takes a bit longer but you get to see some lovely Suffolk countryside.
The campsite owners were very accommodating, hospitable and helpful. They'd roped their children into helping and I'm all for a bit of child labour to get them off their gadgets so that's always pleasing to see.
I'd like to come back and see everything completed. I'm sure it will be great with all the little touches you need in the bathroom.
I've never done a review before so my ratings are compared to my favourite campsite in Cornwall by the sea.
I stayed for a few days over the bank holiday weekend. The owners were very welcoming and the pitches generous in size. My two boys loved the facilities, including; table tennis, table football and a massive playing field with organised football and cricket matches.
The local village, which has a small supermarket and a couple of pubs serving good food, is within a 30 minute, delightful, country walk. If you prefer cooking and the weather is typically English, there is a covered picnic area with a generous number of tables.
The showers had plenty of hot water and most importantly, were very clean.
This is an excellent campsite for families. Although the toilet block has not been totally completed, the ladies and gentlemen's toilet and shower facilities were completed. The water was nice and hot, and the design of the block excellent. The washing up facilities are spacious. Two large stainless steel sinks are in use, and a third is to be plumbed in, giving plenty of room for campers to wash up.
The chemical toilet disposal facility is quite private, and very easy to keep clean.
The pitches are large, and when all the surrounding trees have grown a bit higher, there will be a certain amount of privacy between pitches.
The amount of open play area for the children is superb. There is a football field, and while we were there, a marquee had been erected in which were placed 3 table tennis tables and a table football game. I believe that these will be placed in the very large barn when all the building work is completed. There is an open fronted picturesque cart lodge where we could sit and have our BBQs, on the trestle tables that were put in there for our use.
There is an excellent facility on arrival in the reception, in the form of a lovely cup of tea to welcome us!
The surrounding area is delightful, with plenty of places to visit, and pretty villages to explore.
There is never a shortage of things to do for adults and children alike.
We will certainly recommend this campsite to our friends.
We stayed at this site on the 1st day of opening in our campervan with awning. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside and within walking distance of a number of villages.
It is a family run campsite and we were made to feel very welcome by owner who walked ahead of our campervan escorting us to our generous sized pitch. We hired a firepit and this came with two very large sacks of logs, a generous supply of kindling and even some fire lighters. All of this the owner delivered to a pitch with a wheelbarrow !
Each camping field and pitch is separated by hedgerows and the grass was well trimmed with no loose bits left to be walked in to our awning.
Facilities are good, a brand new wooden clad shower and toilet block with hand driers and a washing up room. There is a three sided barn with picnic tables for wet weather dining and at the time of our visit a large gazebo with multiple table tennis tables. There was also a brick built pizza kiln.
We took owners advice and took a scenic river walk to the nearby village of a Laxfield. Both pubs had really friendly staff. The Royal Oak featured a pop-up tea room and the Kings Head is my new favourite pub with a tap room with real ales from the Barrell and at the time of our visit they were hosting the annual beer festival and we sampled not only the BBQ but also the excellent pub meals.
The site is also within half hours drive to the coast which makes it an excellent location. We had a child free weekend but the owners don't over sell plots so there is plenty of space for kids to run around. There are currently no forms of play equipment (swings/slides etc) if that is important to you. We will definitely be returning to this excellent campsite if you do visit use an old fashioned map as sat nav took us a very long but scenic route there which added 25 mins to our journey!
We had a fantastic week at The Croft Campsite. The place is very well organised. Toilet and shower facilities are great, regularly cleaned and very well maintained, hot water is the showers is amazing and can easily be adjusted to the desired temperature which is a bonus when you have young children. The playhouse for the children is great, with many games available to use at all times, there's also a spacious playing field for games of football, cricket or anything else you may fancy. The owners are very welcoming and can easily accommodate for requests when possible. There's a lot to do nearby, lovely little towns and villages as well as seasides and beaches to visit. We had a great few days and will definitely visit again very soon and recommend to anyone looking for a campsite.
We were welcomed to this brand new campsite by the family owners and had a lovely few days over the bank holiday weekend.
The toilet block was clean, spacious and had plenty of adjustable free hot water in the showers. There are good washing up facilities with plans to have washers and dryers soon.
The pitches are roomy with saplings separating them out. There is a large playing field where families were enjoying playing cricket and football. The owners put on a celebratory first weekend BBQ for us, which was great and encouraged lots of socialising and fun with our fellow campers!
I would certainly recommend this campsite to others as an ideal holiday base to visit the local beaches and villages in Suffolk.
