We stayed here the first week they opened for the season 2009. Nice new toilet block kept very clean even though some people were flushing handtowels and caused a massive backwash. The problem was sorted immediately.
My children had a great time in the play area and we were pitched opp. So we could keep and eye on them. We were however next to the road which was busy with work traffic and at weekends, longest gap 7 seconds between cars. We would choose a different pitch next time.
The shop and pool were closed but the site was very cheap I think £9 a night, bargain.
The dog field was great, not to big but we took a launch ball and our puppy ran around quite happy. Lovely swing seat in the middle to watch the sun set. The field was quite safe I let our children walk the puppy on their own. Gorren Haven beach allows dogs but they must be on leads Easter to 31 October.
Everything is great about this site- the place, the location, the owners, the food in the takeaway, the price (especially low season), the access etc.
We went sept 08 for 4 weeks and booked again for april 09. We found beaches & fishing villages we had never heard of & much better than the more familiar names and filled 4 weeks with ease even in the rain & without spending much money!
I see some reviewers complained about tired toilets & Wash - well they were spotless and I understand now renewed.
This is a lovely park with massive pitches and good facilities. On arrival staff were really friendly, and we were given an information pack about things to do in Cornwall which was really useful. Shower block was clean with plenty of hot water, shop was well stocked there was a pool which looked really nice but due to the weather we didn't use it. Childrens play area was good. Ideal location within easy reach of anywhere in Cornwall, St.Ives and Newquay less than 1 hour drive. We definitely recommend this site.
We have been here several times at the end of the season when the rates fall steeply off from end August, and are unbeatable for value, it is a favourite of ours, an extremely well managed site with help with pitching if needed, and hot meals available at 6pm in season, great f&c and hot pasty and chips, in boxes, no washing-up! We always found Mevagissey very good once you decide to pay a couple of quid for the small park off to the left at the bottom of the hill as you come into town. Treamble was quite pleasant near Perranporth and maybe the terrible weather we had didn't help, but if we go down SW again it will be back to Tregarton definitely!
My Husband and I have just returned from this site after spending 3 weeks there, this is our second year here and we love it. I,m saddened to read some of the reviews about this site as myself and my husband have travelled a lot and been to many sites and find no fault at all with this site. This is a very friendly family run site, it is very well looked after and maintained.
The pitches with electric hook-up are very spacious with still plenty of room, we have a 23ft caravan with full awning and still have plenty of room around, you can book ur own pitch on line so you can choose where you want to go on the site, the owners even pitch your van for you so you don't have to mess about doing it yourself.
The shower blocks are very clean and well maintained, I find the showers very refreshing and the water is always hot, our caravan has a shower but I choose to use the ones on site as they are always very clean.
The site has a outdoor swimming pool which is lovely when the weather permits, there is also a children's playground which is great, and the tennis court is good to if you can play (which I cant I'm useless :))
There is a shop on site which is good for bits and bobs and also homecooked food.
All in ALL this is a lovely site with a very warm and friendly family welcome, it is not the Hilton Hotel with glorious on-suite bathrooms and room service which I,m sure some people expect at times.
We,ve had a lovely holiday here this year as we did last year and we,ll definitely be going back next year.
We stayed at Tregarton for Spring bank holiday and the following week this year. It is the 8th! time we have been here and have already booked again for next year. We have always found Robert and his family to be very friendly and accommodating. The site is always well maintained and the facilities spotless. Our 2 year old loved the play park and especially the pool, which is always warm, whatever the weather. The pitches are huge, we have an 8 man tent and there was still plenty of room to play and park the car. The nearest beach at Caerhays is lovely and has a shop and kiosk selling hot food and drinks. Only 5 minutes away by car. Mevagissey is walkable if you're reasonably fit, however be warned there is a steep hill on the way down, which appears even steeper on the way back up! Definitely worth a visit, beautiful harbour with gift shops, pubs and places to eat.
Would highly recommend this site, see you next year!
What a great site. All we needed in one. The staff were very polite and helpful. The shop was well stocked with all your basic's plus. The pool was very clean and tidy. The shower's were good, and nice to see that the hygiene was in force with a mop and bucket to clean them down after each use, in which you don't see that often. The laundry was very good, Brilliant that the washing machines came already loaded with powder.
The location for us was excellent as we don't like to be where it's noisy, the site was so peaceful. Just far enough out of Mevaggissey, But not to far. All within a 20 mile max radius you have all the big supermarkets, The nearest is only about 15 min's drive from the site.
FINAL COMMENT: We booked again for next yr, while we were there in July. Speak's for it's self. !
We have just returned from Tregarton, and it is WONDERFUL!
We had a grass pitch and due to the weather was wet, but this is the UK and we should expect to take wellies on holiday. It however brighten up the second week and dried very quickly.
The site is well looked after and more than ample space for everyone.
The pool was very warm managed to get 1 dry day 1st week to use it.
Washing areas are good.
Rob was brilliant at setting our pitch up and after a horrible journey down from Leeds.
You are in the middle of Cornwall and nothing too far away.
Eating out nearby you needed a car plenty in Mevagissey but if you have a dog only place you can take them in was the Sharks Fin- my mum says best Coffee in Mevagissey.
If you want more of luxury we tried the Crown in St Ewe and this was expensive but large portions or if you want that something Extra the Quarterdeck at the Nare hotel near Veryan was fabulous and no more expensive than the Crown Inn.
Good beach at Carne for Dogs they can walk along for a good long mile +.
My wife and I spent 14 days at Tregarton Park this Year. This is a very friendly family run site where vistors are welcomed with smiles and any amount of help given. Caravans are sited and leveled for you. Pitches are a very good size and will accomadate any size of caravan, motorhome or tent. Some hardstanding pitches are available, electic hook ups to all pitches, low hedging affords some privacy.
The site is quiet and well maintained, grass is cut on a daily basis, shower & toilet block are cleaned regulary, the shop is well stocked with all basic needs. Take away meals are avaliable in the main school holiday's & are very good.
The weather on this visit was very wet which made conditions on site very difficult for the owner's to keep thier very high standards but they did. The swimming pool was always full rain or shine, the all weather tennis court was in constant use like wise the children's play area.
We have booked our next years break & looking forward to it. This is a very good site well worth visiting, very well sited for touring the area.
We stayed here for 8 nights and I have to say the whole site is very well cared for and in good condition. The pitches are either big or huge. Use there on line pitch booking to pick one as it is spot on! The shop was okay and the pool really nice (when it was not raining.) I think the toilet blocks need to be modernised ASAP. They are ok but looked dated and tired. They were also dirty by the end of the day (but they were full and it was very wet!) The park is one of the best we have stayed at and I think we will return. Great location too.
We have just returned from Tregarton Park after spending one week there in a tent with the family, myself, partner and two teenage girls.
The site was beautifully cared for, grass and planting all neat and tidy. The plots are huge, plenty of room for tent, car and anything else you wish to put on there.
We have a huge eight man tent and there was still ample room.
On site there is a good mixture of tents, caravans and campervans. There are some hard core areas for caravans if needed.
The facilities were generally good - the pool was lovely and well used in the better weather. The down side is that the pool is only open when the shop is open 10am - 6pm. I felt that 6pm was quite early to close the pool as we found that we were often not back to the campsite until around then so didnt use it. I would have liked to see the pool open until around 8pm really.
There was two washing machines costing £4 to use but that included the washing powder and softner. The driers were £1 for 20 minutes but that was plenty time to get the whole wash dry.
There is a covered area to wash and dry dishes. This is looking a little old and could be done with a refit however it is still practice and fit for purpose.
The toilets and shower block are in real need of upgrade, they are looking a bit shabby and the only thing that let the site down.
The camp shop was open daily from 10am until 6pm and sold some things - a little limiting perhaps however they did cook home made food to order each day for lunch and dinner. We didnt use this however it did look good.
While we were in Cornwall it rained quite a bit! Surrounding camp sites were becoming quite waterlogged and evidence of this was seen when out and about looking at cars totally covered in mud!
This however was not a problem at Tregarton as they had tramacked roads between the pitches. The grass was of course waterlogged but the area has been kept so well that it did not disintigrate.
There is a lovely little play area for the younger children, this appeared very well used in the evenings and a focal point for the kids to get together. There is a lovely hard based tennis court available 10 - 6pm which again is well used.
The atmosphere on the site was friendly, all the staff were lovely and helpful.
The site has internet access via a prepaid card system for wireless connections.
Surrounding areas lovely - We particularly loved Mevagessey - a small fishing town. My girls loved going crabbing in the evening over the end of the harbour wall.
The area is littered with little beaches and secludes spots. We have not seen it all and hope to go back again to explore some more.
The lost gardens of heligan were delightful as was the Eden project.
Not so pretty was St Austell itself, a little run down but evidence of regeneration occurring currently as the centre of town is having a big rebuild.
Overall we loved our holiday and plan to return to this area and to this park again.
We have just come back from this site and I have mixed opinion on it. I thought the facilities were ok but needed updating and there really should be another toilet block. The showers were very small especially the drying area. I didn't think they were that clean but they weren't really disgusting. There was a lot of rain last week and there was water everywhere which the owners cant do a lot about but our pitch was flooded and underneath was like a bog. The pitches are uneven and didn't cope with the rain. On the Friday our neighbours left and on the Saturday new ones came and I didn't think the pitch was very good to take another tent on so soon. Our pitch was in a right state by the time we took our tent up. The owners seemed quite friendly. I think this site needs more maintenance on it as there were little niggly things like a constantly running tap all week in the toilets and broken guttering. Overall I wouldn't say that we wont go back because I feel it is a pleasant site but just needs a few things doing to it to make it better.
Owner's comments:
Many thanks for you review Yorksbabe, may I take this opportunity to reply.
I am saddened to hear you feel the maintenance of the park is not good enough. The tap, you mentioned, dripped because we tried 4 different parts to correct the fault. Unfortunately, in the end, we found out our type of tap has been superseded and therefore the new parts would not work. We had two options - Let the tap drip, or turn off the supply of water to the sink and then replace the whole unit when the season was over. This would have meant one less sink for our guests to use and we did not want this to happen. I have also inspected all guttering and cannot find any sections broken or missing.
I hope this helps explain your points and we look forward to welcoming you again.
Just returned from here after 14 nights and would say not the greatest site like everyone said it is. For a start toilets let it down not very clean and could do with a family room for people with young kids, some people don't bother mopping after themselves.
Pool great if you get the weather. Play park not great and the ground in the site if wet smells of sou-age.
The shop does open at funny times and the pool should open later at night when the weather is good.
No where to walk if you like to explore only round site roads.
Owner's comments:
Many thanks for taking the time to place a review Rod2309. May I offer the following comments to help explain.
The toilets and showers are cleaned by a team of 6 people, three times a day. After each cleaning cycle an inspection takes place to ensure our high standards. Weather conditions this year did make this job more difficult, however, the high standard was still maintained.
Our playground cost £19,000 so I am sorry this failed to meet your requirements. We do recommend watching our park video on our website to make sure our facilities meet the requirements of our guests.
Our park shop opens at 8:30am until 2pm and then from 4:30pm to 7:00pm everyday, I not quite sure how these are "funny times".
The swimming pool closes at 6pm for a number of reasons. Firstly it was recommended by our local Health and Safety Officer, secondly it ensure crystal clear water quality and thirdly it ensures minimal heat loss which enables us to maintain the pool at 84 degrees.
My family and I stayed for a week on this site in July 2006. This is a touring only site with no statics. We enjoyed a very pleasant holiday here which was helped by the exceptionally good weather.
The site has good sized pitches with electric hook up. Some pitches are seperated by hedging which affords a degree of privacy.
There is a shop on site from which you can also buy hot food to take away. The toilet / shower block on the site was a good size and seemed to be cleaned regularly.
The outdoor swimmiming pool was very good and you could spend hours just lazing by it if the weather was right. Mevagissey was not far away and the town of St. Austell was also within easy reach.
In summary a good site that few could find fault with.
