Excellent site. Clean and tidy. Facilities are great. The owners balance being available when required and being unobtrusive. Pitch size was great. Did not feel cramped. We spent little time in the camp as it is well situated for getting out and about.
It is close to Eden Project and The Lost Gardens Of Heligan: both of which are an absolute must. It was also close enough to St Austell which made shopping for dinner and breakfast easy.
I do not really have any particular criticism to make. Although it might have been useful to have been given more information about catching the bus to the places we wanted to visit.
We are on site as I write this, so if you can read it the wifi works great. As does everything on this site. Showers, Toilets, Shop, Pool, etc etc. It is without question the best site in the UK we have visited, and we have been on loads all over the kingdom. The pitches are all huge and level and everything is immaculate. The Hicks Family are without doubt the most committed owners I've had the pleasure to meet, and improve the site little by little every year.
Within 2 miles you have Gorran which has a shop and the Barley Sheaf, a pub/restaurant which is really good. A little further is Mevagissy with loads of little shops, cafes, and restaurants. Caerhays Beach is 1. 5 mls away, and is our little dogs favourite. As I type this the sun is going down, its a clear blue sky, and tomorrow no doubt will be as beautiful as today. Roll on retirement, then we can spend more time here than we do.
We choose this site for the location to explore the south coast of Cornwall as we usually go to the north coast.
The site was easy to find even though satnav took us down a small lane. On arrival the site looked like a lovely cottage setting. They offered to pitch the caravan for us if required very friendly and helpful. We were pitched at the top part of the site near the children's play park.
The play park was very large and enclosed with lots of apparatus to play on the children loved it.
There was outdoor tennis court which you could hire the gear if needed.
The outdoor swimming pool was not open at the time that we went but looked great and clean, the shop was also closed at this time of year.
The toilet block was very impressive and immaculate always clean, the showers were large great for families with auto sensors for turning shower on, the only improvement would have been under floor heating for stepping out of the shower.
The dog field was just as good clean mowed although a little walk from our caravan at the top of the site.
Shop were nearby but you would need to drive easy to reach and find.
Beaches were not far away, dogs were allowed year round with a dog on a lead, also plenty of small hidden away beaches great for surfing.
What a great site, Nice friendly staff who will pitch your van for you and level it out.
Playground is great for younger kids and pool is a godsend for older teenagers, along with tennis court.
Facilities are top class and probably the best that I have seen in any campsite. Toilets clean and well maintained.
We have visited this site on two occasions and I have recommended it to family and friends.
Nice pub in St ewe. Gorran Haven and Mevagissey only a five minute drive away. Great for visiting St Austell, Eden project and Chalestown ship wreck centre.
Once more, another perfect seven night stay at Tregarton Park. Our previous visits have been with a tent, but this year we returned with a caravan. We were received with a very warm welcome, and were offered the free pitching and levelling service, which we jumped at, and within five minutes, our outfit was sited and levelled, brilliant! Our pitch was fabulous, very large, and even with a distant sea view. As ever, the grounds and facilities were immaculate. What else can I say, except, well done to all at Tregarton Park, we would have no hesitation in recommending this park to anyone heading to Cornwall.
This was our first visit to site, attracted by low prices we stayed for 18 nights.
We were not disappointed as we were greeted by a very friendly owner who even offer to site our rather large caravan if required. We declined his offer as there was plenty of room to maneuver.
As we were late booking we were allocated a pitch at the bottom of the park which was fine until we had two days of heavy rain which made our grass pitch waterlogged. We spoke to owner re moving to another pitch and as soon as one became available he hooked up our caravan, took it to new pitch, sited and levelled it for us. Great service. Tennis court and children's play area(fenced and closed at dusk)at top end of park. Shop, pool and takeaway closed as out of season.
Nice large dog walk at bottom of park but roads quite steep. Toilets/showers/laundry located in centre of park very clean and tidy.
Not much within walking distance of site so car or bike advisable, some public transport available. Caerhayes beach is a short drive away down fairly narrow roads (beware of an abundance of Pheasants on the road) but well worth a visit, small tea room and toilets in carpark.
Overall very nice site would visit again especially in late season.
Just returned from 10 days camping at Tregarton Park, had a great time despite the winds and rain. The facilities are some of the best we have used and at £9 a night ( out of school hols) it is great value.
If there was anything they could improve on it is the incline on some of the pitches. OK for the vans but I did tend to slide down the airbed in our tent.
Some of the pitches had large muddy patches where the season of camping had worn the grass bar
If your tenting and there are winds forecast, head for the lower pitches ( opposite end of site to pool) here the topography offers shelter.
Did hear of a few tents having problems with the winds on the higher more exposed ground.
Lots to do and see in the area, though a car is needed all the time.
Mevagissey, Goran Haven and a few quiet local beaches are very close, rather glad we didn't drive a large car as some of the roads can be narrow.
Had a lovely bouillabaisse at Sams in Fowey ( £50 for 2 with a bottle of wine and starter) we almost finished the portion as it was delicious.
We will return, the sites great and the area has much to offer.
We had a fantastic stay at this campsite. The pitches were a good size and level. The shower/toilet block was very clean and we never had to queue even though it was peak time. The pool and park were great, our 3 year old thoroughly enjoyed himself. We were aware that the site was in the middle of the countryside but we found lots to see and do - Lost Gardens of Heligan, Mevagissey, Gorran Haven to name a few. The shop provided essentials but the main supermarkets were only a 25 minute drive away. We thought the local beaches were great for young families and we would recommend this site and local area to anyone.
This is the second time we stayed at Tregarton; the first time was 5 years ago when we stayed in a tent. I think on balance, this has to be, in the 10 years we have been camping/caravanning the best site we have visited. Just!
Tregarton is family owned, and you will get a warm welcome from the family when you first arrive; Robert, the son, will pitch your caravan for you - in our case, he saved us half an hour 'faffing' by hitching us on to his pick-up and expertly setting us up together with chocks and levellers to get us bang on perfect into our pitch, positioning us for the best view affordable of the park (which we wanted).
The facilities are exceptionally well kept. The grass is well tended; the park is chock full of great slides/swings and a great play-house and tennis is an option if required.
One downside is the showerblock; not overly clean during the day in the sense of a member of staff mopping up all the time, however mop and bucket is on hand for 'self-help'. Tthe facilities themselves have been updated considerably since our last stay and afford warm showers (though one or two more would help ease congestion in the summer holidays), just enough sinks and toilets all of which as I say, are modern, clean and functional.
I would say that the dishwashing facility is great, but the sinks are so low you end up with an aching back at the end of a stint at the sink!
The shop cum takeaway is first class. Exceptionally good value for money to the point where you would be hard pushed to find any menu offering such tasty home cooked food at the price anywhere is amazing - especially for Cornwall in the high season. The shop itself is well stocked, and you can buy internet cards for a reasonable 12 pounds for all week access. We found the connection fine, although a tad slow in the evening when everyone would have sharing the 4mb connection the site has allocated.
The pool area is one of the showcases of the site; the pool water is dreamily warm, and the surrounding decking is high quality, plentiful and well spaced. We spent a few days around the pool it was that pleasant a surrounding, something we would not normally consider doing.
The beach at Caerhays is small but lovely - we didn't find it too crowded on the days we visited. As has been said before though, a car is a must to get the best out of the local area - there are no beaches within striking distance on foot. All in all a fantastic spot; our children (8 and 5) have both voted it the best campsite they have been on and both Julie and I agree with them.
I think the 'best' is still out there waiting for us - but until then - for us - Tregarton Park will wear the crown. We are about to rebook for next year.
We have just returned from a 4 night stay at Tregarton Park and thankfully the weather was good to us. We went with another family of 4 and booked 2 pitches next to each other. We were impressed with the size of the pitches but unfortunately 1 of the pitches was quite uneven.
The shower & toilet facilities were always clean. However you could not adjust the water temperature of the showers and these were slightly too hot for small children.
Having the laundry was a life saver as we had an emergency sleeping bag wash, not thinking to take a spare for the children.
The shop sold the basic items at a very reasonable rate. The children had a takeaway the first night and we would have also had a take away after the children had gone to bed but it closed at 7pm. Staying open another hour would be good.
The children enjoyed being able to ride their bikes around the site, within our view and having the 10mph speed limit and one way system is beneficial for this.
The swimming pool was always warm and great for young children as it wasn't too deep
This a really lovely site. We spent 2 weeks here, had mixed weather but didn't let it spoil our stay.
We had a warm welcome, and were positioned and levelled onto our pitch promptly and given a useful information pack. The site is sloping and terraced but pitches were some of the largest we've seen in a while, spaced out with hedging and well surfaced access roads on a one way system.
There is a large fenced and gated adventure play area which our children loved. It is well maintained and was closed around 9pm so the area quietens down as the light fades. We were sited pretty close to it but it wasn't too noisy and the site feels friendly yet is quite peaceful.
The swimming pool is clean and warm, with lots of seating/decking around it, a changing area is provided and even though the site was full, it never felt overcrowded. We didn't try the tennis court but it looked ok. The shop was reasonably stocked and not overpriced and weekly wi-fi connection good value.
If we had any niggle, and it is a minor one, it was the number of showers provided - they could do with another shower block. There was frequent queuing, not just at peak times. The block was kept clean, even in the heavy thunderstorms and rain we experienced. There are lots of mops and buckets, and floor, basins and toilets were kept spotless.
The showers themselves were hot with good pressure and operated on a sensor button with good changing space and hooks. There were ample washing cubicles and facilities for dishwashing and disabled. For campers, a temporary portaloo is opened when the block is being cleaned each day. The site does a good range of takeaway food to order in peak season but we didn't try it.
As far as location goes, you do have to drive but we found some good pubs with beer gardens on recommendation from the shop staff. The main supermarkets are in St Austell - a very large Asda and Tesco.
The site is within easy driving distance of most areas of Cornwall you might want to visit and there are some lovely sandy beaches close by - Caerhays and Porthpean being our favourites. Charlestown shipwreck centre and harbour were good value, as was the china clay museum and country park. Mevagissey and Gorran Haven are also nice to potter around for a short while.
Overall, a very good site, excellent value for money in a lovely part of the country.
This is a lovely campsite situated in the beautiful countryside around St Austell. Pleasant reception area and a very friendly welcome. The pack of leaflets given to us on things to do in the area was a great touch.
Large, clearly marked pitches with hedging between each one. We were situated by the playground and having 2 boys aged 7 and 4, this suited us well. The boys loved the fort! Playground closed at 9pm.
The showers and toilets were to a very high standard and were always lovely and clean. My only 2 (very minor)gripes are that you can't control the temperature on the showers - they were a little on the warm side for my 4 year old. Also, the floor does get very slippery when it's wet so take care - especially if you're in flip-flops. There was a bit of queuing for showers at peak times, but 5 to 10 mins at the most.
Good laundry area - £4 for a wash. No need for detergent - machines are already loaded with Non Bio powder and fabric conditioner.
We all enjoyed the fantastic swimming pool which was lovely and warm and with decking, sun-loungers and seating all around. We didn't try the tennis court, but it seemed to be getting plenty of use.
Very good shop and Takeaway which was very reasonably priced. We fed our family of 4 for about £13. 00 and we all agreed it was very tasty.
With regards to eating out, we tried The Crown at St Ewe - a little pricey - but an extensive menu and a warm welcome. The seafood platters were like nothing I've ever seen before! The Rising Sun at Portmellon was lovely.
Again, a very friendly welcome and good, home cooked food. We found a lovely little place for cream teas on the way down to Caerhays beach, just a little farmhouse with a lovely garden and orchard to sit in on a sunny afternoon.
We were a little disappointed with the beaches in this area, but we had just spent the previous week in St Ives so had been somewhat spoiled with the fantastic golden sand and brilliant facilities down there.
Having said that, we really enjoyed Carne Beach and Goran Haven Harbour and Beach are very safe. It's only about a 30 to 40 minute drive over to Newquay if you fancy a bit more in the way of surfing and body boarding etc.
Had an enjoyable day at Charlestown Shipwreck Centre and Charlestown itself is a lovely little village to visit. Mevagissy is a typically Cornish seaside town. Lovely and quaint, but a bit on the busy side. We visited the World of Model Railways whilst here.
We found this to be quite expensive, but our 4 year old is train mad so it was worth it to see his face! The Lost Gardens of Heligan are literally a 5 minute drive from the campsite and The Eden Project is close by too.
To summarise, this is a well presented, clean, safe, family friendly campsite with great facilities, which I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to family and friends. I would definitely return to Tregarton Park in the future.
Just returned from stay at Tregarton Park. Immaculate site, all facilities really clean and modern.
Lovely showers with lots of space and free! Shop well stocked, baked to order baguettes and croissants - yummy and very reasonable prices. Pool lovely - it really is warm - great for when the weather's not all that hot.
Only criticism is too many do's and don'ts - we like our camping a bit more relaxed!
Agree with other comments that you need to use the car to go anywhere and warning don't use your sat nav to go to Mevagissey - read the map - the roads are very very narrow but do make the effort to go there - its beautiful especially early evening for food - best fish and chips ever!
Thank you to all at Tregarton for making our stay an enjoyable one and helping out with some jump leads!
Friendly helpful staff; lovely site, well maintained, superb large pitches - everyone had their own space; no silly site rules to adhere to just common sense.
Perfectly good modern facilities, also well maintained and clean. Showers hot with good water pressure and sensors to keep the water running rather than the stiff push buttons found on other sites - just step closer to the sensor when it stops, simple!
10 year old son loved the pool and playground
Good dog walking/exercise area, shop and takeaway (most welcome on our first night and thoroughly enjoyed - no frills home cooking, thank you)
Laundry and dishwashing areas also good
If I had to be picky (this is only added should the owners wish to make it perfect!) dirt trapper mats or similar would prevent the inevitable buildup of grass, dust etc mixing with wet bathroom floors, posted reminders asking all users to clean up after them and a bit more lighting from the facilities across the road to the narrow foot path that runs alongside pitch #108
Then the one negative (which has nothing to do with the site) that others do also elude to is the lack of nearby walks and footpaths; the road to Gorran is relatively busy, wider than most lanes and vehicles travel fast making it not ideal for walking along.
Would most definitely consider this site if returning to Cornwall again. Can also recommend the Crown at nearby St Ewe, especially the seafood platter!
We had 10 fantastic days at Tregarton park at the beginning of the school summer holidays. On arrival the staff were very welcoming and provided us with a very useful welcome/information pack. Our pitch in the spring meadow was very spacious, we endured a storm and rain on several days and the pitch remained well drained.
The facilities were excellent, with nice spacious showers which were a great temperature!. The shop was well stocked and fairly priced, the takeaways warm baguettes became a firm favourite with our children!
The swimming pool was very clean and warm, the playground was well equipped and suited children of all ages.
Although a car was needed to get to most places off site, the site was well situated for numerous beaches and other attractions.
Overall an excellent campsite and we are looking foward to returning.
