Fantastic! We had such a wonderful holiday - the site was beautifully clean, safe and well set out. We loved the fact you could book pitches beforehand, so we took friends that had never camped before and knew we could be next to each other. We took four 3 year old children and the facilities were excellent and the location perfect. We would recommend the beach at Caerhays as being the best nearby beach we could find - we were looking for as much sand as possible! All in all, we would highly recommend the site to anyone (except it means there will be less room for us if everyone finds out how wonderful it is!) Oh, and by the way, we booked early to get the pitches we wanted and we were glad we did because it is a popular site, although even when busy you can still enjoy a peaceful holiday.

Went for this weekend with hubby , 2 kids and 2 dogs. Was disappointed to say the least. The pitch we were allocated was very uneven and difficult to level caravan. Our old dog struggled to get into the caravan. Could not put up porch awning as caravan was too far off the ground.

The swimming pool was closing that day, as was the take-away and the shop only open for 2 hours per day. If this had been explained on the telephone I would not have visited this site.

Asked for a refund for second day which was refused as I not policy. I would have thought one unhappy visitor was one too many. Obviously not.

We packed up and went to a different site a few miles away and had a superb remainder of the weekend. Loosing one nights' fee was better than another day lifting an old dog in and out of caravan.

Have just returned from this site after staying for Bank Holiday week. What a lovely site this is - very very friendly and helpful, beautifully kept. In fact the minute someone left somebody came and mowed the grass and tidied around the pitch!
Well stocked shop and not ridiculously priced like some sites we have stayed they even provide takeaway brekkie if you fancy a rest!
The shower/toilet block was always lovely and clean the tiles were sparkly and no matter what time of day or night always warm.
This site also has a fabulous swimming pool - outdoors but well heated and is again immaculately kept. Would definitely recommend this site as it is well maintained and more importantly very peaceful - an ideal site for families. Also has excellent doggie facilities will definitely visit again.

I promised the staff at Tregarton that I would write a review following our 2 week stay in August.

I can honestly say that we had the best holiday possible there. This was partly made by the site which was excellent and partly by the location and beaches etc nearby.

The site had a well equipped shop and did good takeaway food that you could eat outside on the decking infront of the shop. The swimming pool was warm and a good size for length swimming, as well as messing about. We got in the habit of going in at 10am when it opened, so it wasn't full.

The showers were always hot and in 2 weeks we only had to queue once. One fact I loved about the showers was that thay had shelves and a load of hooks to put your clothes on. It drives me mad when there is only one hook and you have your towel, washbag and everything to put on it!

There were plenty of toilets and sinks - again there were lots of hooks.

The clothes washing and drying were fantastic and invaluable on a 2 week stay.

The playground was good for any age up to 12, I would say, and it was locked in the evening to keep the noise down.

The tennis court was free, but if you need to hire balls and rackets, they were 50p each. You needed to book, but we had good fun there. There is also a badminton/volleyball net.

The staff were exceedingly helpful and friendly, infact, I think most of them were from the same family!

The only very slight problem was that our pitch was uneven, but at the end of a summer with the weather we have had, I guess that isn't surprising.

We will definitely return and I will be entering any future competitions on this site in the hope that I will win a free week!

On a side note, we discovered that the cafe at the Lost Gardens of Heligan (about 2 miles away) is open to anyone and they do FANTASTIC salads from 12-3 and a jolly good range of homemade cakes etc for the rest of the day. We went round the gardens one day and it was great. As was the Eden Project, just the other side of St Austell. Also The Llawnroc Inn at Gorran Haven serves excellent food although it is a little shabby.

So go and stay and I hope you enjoy the site as much as we did!

I agree with all the positive reports on this site, I have used it twice now and find it most agreeable, I can recommend it and will use it again. I cannot see the point in re writing other good reviews so will try and add rather than repeat. The only major downside of this site is it's lack of showers 4 showers ( for each sex) on a large site is woefully inadequate in peak seasons and a Q often forms at peak times. Facilities are otherwise good, however the site would benefit from another more modern block. There is also a mop provided in the showers and a sign requesting people use it after a shower would help as there are no plastic mats or duck boards and the floor gets filthy and wet along with your feet. Laundret will not accept powder and softene( its added automatic) at £4 a wash so if you use a special powder you will not be able to use them.

There is a pub in St Ewe called the Crown that I can recommend its not cheap but does at least try to offer a little more than the standard holiday pub food.

If using a sat nav follow the directions from the brochure or web site from St Austel or you will end up stuck on local roads. Once on the site avoid the islands in St Austel they are a traffic nightmare go via Charlestown instead and miss them out. Mevagissy is nice but Parking is expensive so look out for the charity car park just before you hit the main town on the right £1 all day (when it's open)

Just spent an enjoyable 2 weeks here with our folding camper.Friendly staff ,large pitches ,great pool. You can also buy food and snacks which will be brought to you if you are around the swimming pool area and the prices were ok as well. There was also a selection of newspapers you can purchase from the site shop each morning.Even though site was near full the showers etc were always available without any long queues.Older children may find they get alittle bored later on in the evening as there wasn`t much for them to do apart from congregate near the washing up area.If you get nice weather then you won`t need to leave the site, unfortunately we only had a couple of days of decent weather.Great pub food at Rashleigh arms in Charlestown at very reasonable prices. We found the surrounding coast mainly rocky with cliffs and not many beaches easyily accessable .Try a drive to Looe ,great place to spend a day out ,boat trips and crab fishing for kids around the harbour. All in all one of the best sites we have camped at ,its a pity its 370 miles away from our home .Once it got dark the site was very quiet and we would certainly have no doubts recommending this site to anyone looking for a relaxing peaceful holiday on a superb site .

We visited this site in August and found the pitches to a really good size.  The site was clean and other guests were friendly.
We found the toilets and showers clean but showers were not that powerful.
The lady at reception was fantastic from making the booking to arriving and checking us in.
For us (young couple with no children) we found the site far too quiet and whilst we didn't necessarily want a huge club house, a pub on site or in walking distance would have been great.
We spent a lot of time in Mevigissy as it was easy to get to - one tip DO NOT try and drive through this town.  The roads in Mevigissy are definitely not designed for heavy traffic (and in some cases no traffic) and on a sunny August weekend we found ourselves in some hairy situations!  Park in the car park as you drive into the town - its a lot safer!
The site was very family orientated so for us we probably won't go back until we have a family of our own.  We personally found it a bit too quiet!

We have just returned home from a week camping at Tregarton Park, we had a very relaxing week, our children had a fabulous time (10 and 8 ) made lots of new friends and spent hours in the heated pool.
All the facilities toilets, showers, washing up area were always clean.  However, only a slight critism sometimes there was a que  for the showers in the morning if we didn't get up before 8am.  The showers could do with a bit more water pressure. Also the sink taps were very hard to push on, especially for our children if they went on there own.
Very friendly and helpful staff, well stocked shop and takeaway.
This campsite had everything we were looking for and we hope to return next year.

We enjoyed our stay at Tregarton Park. This is a clean and friendly campsite with good facilities and helpful staff. Particularly, we found pitches very clearly segregated and of good proportions (we have a large tent and people carrier and found ample room for the tent, the car and outside seating / dining). We also found the on-site store better stocked than most with a good variety of food, drink, camping supplies etc and with a range of hot food. Our pitch was close to an open area where children can play (ample room for football, kite flying, cricket etc) and including a good enclosed playground and a tennis court. We have five boys aged 4 to 13 and these facilities (and the pool - although this was very busy) were put to good use. (If you are booking for a larger than average family it is best to call the campsite directly).

The site was a little off of the main roads but very convenient for Mevigissy and for several beaches (our favourite being Vault beach which is dog friendly and very quiet). Be prepared for some narrow lanes (we backed out of one three times before we could get through - and we offered one driver a bottle of wine after he backed up about half a mile for us).

Our favourite pub for dinner was the Rashliegh Arms in Charlestown; we visited a few but this one was the best value for our large family.

First time tenters. We won the UK campsite competition to go to Tregarton so this was a free holiday for us, although we didn't anticipate our first time to be for a full week!

Site was just the right size for us, very clean and tidy, good sized pitches with elctric hook up, with teams of staff constantly maintaining the pitches and facilities. Toilets and showers were of a very good standard and the shop was well-stocked and reasonably priced. The site owners were exceptionally friendly and helpful, and were full of useful information.

We didn't feel that the site was particularly suitable for families with teenagers used to lively surroundings, as there is no dedicated games facilities, organised evening functions or even a bar, and we overheard a couple of kids saying how bored they were.

The pool opened at 10am and closed at 6pm. We didn't have children, and the odd time we stayed on site the pool was invariably full of families. The only suggestion I would like to make is that the first half hour and the last half hour be given over to adults only so that they can have a swim without negotiating the crowds.

In saying that if you are looking for a quiet clean well-maintained and pretty site, with a good sized swimming pool and tennis courts in Cornwall, then Tregarton should be at the top of your list.

Highly recommended.

Visited over Whitsun bank holiday weekend. No problems finding as just past the Lost gardens. Very friendly staff. Site has a mixture of motorhomes, tourers and tents. Plenty of space between units. Pitches are divided by bushes and levels. The site is not flat but has been landscaped so that it is near to. Although its a large site it does not feel so. Plenty of space for kids to play.

There is a shop which seems well stocked and a take away open for breakfast to early evening. The pool is a reasonable size but closes very early (6pm) even when the weather would allow another 3 hours of swimming.

No pubs or eating within reasonable walking distance but several with a short car journey.

Toilets are clean and modern, but are full at peak times. Watch out for the slippy floor when it rains though.

Overall a super site and well worth going to. One of the great things was being able to book the exact pitch over the Internet. They even give the sizes of each pitch. The area around needs no mention as you get what you expect. I'll be back soon but I'll try to stay longer next time.

Spent the May Day 2006 Bank Holiday weekend at this site.  It is beautifully situated in a very quiet location, with nothing to hear but the sound of birdsong!

We arrived at around 2pm, and were told to set up wherever we wanted towards the back of the site.  It was totally level with plenty of room for our tent plus our car.

One minor criticism is that the shower and toilet block could do with some heating as it was quite chilly stepping out of the shower.  That said, there was plenty of free hot water in the showers, and they were certainly kept clean.

No bar or entertainment here which is great for a quiet holiday.  In fact everyone staying at the site seemed very friendly and the whole feel of the place was family orientated.  It was a little early in the season for the swimming pool but it looked very well maintained.

Mevagissey is an easy ten minute drive from here with plenty of restaurants and bars to keep you entertained.  You are also very close to the Lost Gardens of Heligan, and 20 minutes from the Eden Project.  There are no pubs or restaurants within walking distance however, so is ideal for self catering and watching the sun go down over the surrounding countryside.

Finally, may I take this opportunity to apologise to anyone in the campsite if I woke them up on the Sunday night.  The wind and rain whipped up quite a storm - the tent was fine but the wind managed to set off my car alarm at 4am!

Will definitely return to this site for a relaxing weekend in the not too distant future.

Just returned from Tregarton. I can report that the toilet/shower block have been given a fresh coat of paint/varnish and, I suspect, grouting. The showers are piping hot - our daughter thought they were too hot. As a holiday park it is reasonably quiet, it is certainly kept clean and tidy. The surrounding area is lovely and I can recommend a visit to Lobbs farm stores at Heligan - take your bankcard! The campsite is not set up for entertainment, perhaps a small bar would have been nice just to wander to in the evening because there's nowhere an easy amble for an evening's libation or bar snack. (Nearest village Gorran 2 miles)
The pitches are a good size, we saw quite a number of twin axles (caravans) with awnings, on pitches with plenty of room for vehicles too
We love it there.

August 2006 will be our sixth visit to Tregarton Park. It's the absolute highlight of our year and our second home. The site is fantastic. Clean, quiet, peaceful and friendly. Just enough to keep the kids happy without resorting to on-site entertainment, clubrooms and the like. In fact I think we are the on-site entertainment judging by our grand entrance last year on a low loader, much to everyone's amusement! We'll have to see what we can produce this year :D!

Looking forward to seeing you guys in August - brace yourselves! (pitch 21)

Way back in 1976 (ish) I spent the first of many camping holidays at this delightful campsite,in a trailer tent with my family. The first year we went, the site had not been open long. The family who ran it were charming. The little old Grandma used to run the shop, and we could order a roast dinner on sundays! Then there was only one block of toilets/showers and a laundry, and the fish and chip van ( run by a Scottish couple) used to call in on site.

We had at least 3 holidays there and each time, we thoroughly enjoyed it.
I think the owner was a stocky guy with a beard and smoked a pipe...but time dims the memory. We used to hire ice blocks. One year there was a storm and the light went out...the shop still operated with candles on the counter! I now live in Australia and often talk of those wonderful visits with my parents who are now in their 80's. Good luck to the present owners...are you of the original family who ran it?
When we return for a holiday we will call in.
