Visited here first week of summer hols,arrived early and as pitch was free we were allowed to pitch straight away.Really lovely campsite,great pool area, great launderette.Our tent was on a very slight slope but most pitches fairly level.
We visited Gorran Haven beach,Caerhays was closest and lovely,can park right near beach.
We also travelled further into Cornwall to seal sanctuary then on to St Ives.
We used a great indoor play Zone in St Austell.
Supermarkets at St Austell, the Asda does have a very busy car park and were almost gridlocked at one point!
Mevagissey is very near campsite,beautiful Cornish fishing port,great for ice creams and pasties.
We liked it so much we are booked in again this year,cant wait,just hope the British weather is kind to us!
We stayed at this campsite august 2007, we are booked to go again this year in august, it will be our 4th year staying here. We choose Tregarton because the reviews for the campsite seemed so positive and we were not dissapointed, the people that run the campsite are so friendly nothing is too much trouble, you are made to feel so welcome. The shop is well stocked fresh bread cakes pastries etc,. The campsite is clean and well maintained, the pool is great as we have always been very lucky with the weather we have spent most days at the pool which our daughters love and then spend the evening in mevagissy which is not too far away. If the odd day was not so good then there is plenty of places to visit Newquay, Looe, Polpero,Bodmin and many more, my only gripe is that as far as I am aware there is no public transport to and from tregarton so a car is a must but other than that I recommend this campsite to everyone its fantastic and we are counting down the weeks till we are there again.
What a great site! Really friendly staff, we have never had our van pitched and levelled for us before but its all part of the service. Really good take away, we all had curry which was delicious.Only managed to use the pool a couple of times due to poor weather but it was very warm and clean. A couple of miles down the road is Lobbs farm shop (next door to Heligan) which we used almost daily, really good meats and bread. Would definitely use again.
Pitches spacious, hedged, and grass neatly cut. We were even guided to our pitch and the owner then pitched and levelled the caravan for us, great after an 8 hour drive! No stress.
On arrival we were given a welcome pack which contained details and leaflets for practically every tourist attraction in Cornwall. Very handy including a free map, which was well dog eared by the time we got home.
There is a tennis court, badminton area, grassed area and a childrens play park, all immaculate. Also a lovely swimming pool.
The shower block,toilets were always clean, no matter what time they were used. 5 showers(2 wider than the rest)9 loos, separate room with washbasins, hair dryer(20p lasts ages). For 9.50 a night you can't ask for more.
There is a separate room for disabled requiring personal radar key.
Washing up area(covered)with a lovely fresh laundry snell because next to laundry room. The washing machines are £4.00 but this includes the washing powder dispensed automatically into each machine, hence the lovely smell. Big dryers and ironing facilities. Spotless.
Dog walking area/field.
Sloping site but this not a problem unless you really struggle getting about.
There is nothing within walking distance by way of shops or pubs, so transport definitly required. There is a small shop in reception for the basics, plus wines and beer, prices not too bad. Plus a small takeaway service between 5 and 6 each night.(pre order only)
Would recommend visiting St. Ives(park and ride)
Newquay/Padstow. There are some lovely coves/beaches between Newquay and Padstow. Porth corran is beautiful. If you visit Lizrd point, try the cafe overlooking the point. Good food, home made and delicious deserts! You can even take your own wine and visit later in the day to make it really special. Friendly proprietors.
Martins dairy in Looe is excellent for a cream tea!(but there are many more!)
Spent 5 nights here - 2 adults and a 2 year old and 1 year old. Lovely site, pool and playground great. Agree with all that's been said. John Deere was out most of the day, but he does empty bins too. Toilet block a bit on the old side, but always spotlessly clean.
Our only negative was there was no bath or larger family bathroom. This site is a family site and therefore this is a big omission. Coming back from the beach it would have been great to put the children straight in the bath. In my experience children don't like showers and anyway the showers here are barely big enough for one, particulalry the drying area! We would gladly pay extra for a bath/ family bathroom.
Gorran Haven is a lovely beach with good facilities. Car park £2.50 all day now.
Lovely site - would have been better if it hadn't rained most of the week! Clean toilet/showers although shower cubicles on the small side. Peaceful and scenic. We were pitched on 101 at the bottom of the site - a sharp slope down towards us and the dog walk path next to us so the rain seemed to come at us from all directions! Not sites fault of course but if we return we would opt fot a pitch on the upper level - better views there too! Good shop on site, not too over-priced. Takeway ok. Pool lovely if we'd have had the weather! Would recommend.
We (two adults and one 8 year old) spent 7 nights at this site. We have a large tent and the pitch we had booked was enormous. The facilities were clean and the staff friendly and helpful. This is a great site for families. There are some good beaches nearby as well as some interesting places to visit (e.G. The Lost Gardens of Heligan). We will be booking again.
We visited this site in May and stayed 9 nights. Its a nice place, clean and tidy, plenty of recycling and waste bins around the site as well as many fresh and waste water points. The toilets and showers are clean and the water always hot. The shop has all the basics but some items are a little on the dear side. The staff are helpful and always polite. Just one small gripe, the place is advertised as being peaceful and quiet, and it would be if it wasn't for the gardner constantly mowing the empty pitches with his sit-on John Deere mini tractor. Now I know grass has to be cut, but please, ALL DAY LONG.EVERYDAY.
The local area is very pretty with some nice little shops in Mevagissy, but if you really feel the need to shop then St Austell is the nearest main shopping area.
We will go to Tregarton again, maybe later this year but definitely in 2009.
Although we went early in the season so the shop and swimming pool weren't open, the facilities were 1st class. We recieved a warm welcome and all staff were very friendy. Clean loos and showers, plenty of hot water when needed. The pitches were well maintained and the free electric hook up very useful for our coolbox as the weather was hot. As we don't have children we didn't use the playground but it looked fun. We used the site as a base for exploring the surrounding countryside. The local fishing port of Mevagissy, 10mins by car, has something for everyone including a free aquarium, free museum, and some very good tea rooms and restaurants. St Austell, 15mins by car, has two 24hour supermarkets. We would recomend this site and definitely go back.
Beautiful site with huge pitches separated by hedges and with banks covered in wild flowers around the edges.
Great children's playground although my two were the only children there. Unfortunately we went the weekend before the pool opens (it doesn't give dates on website so suggest asking before you book) but it looks fantastic. Also shop etc. Still closed until next weekend. Lovely wooden summerhouse with all the tourist leaflets, maps etc.
Lots of water points and bins around although the recycling all has to go to one area by reception. Plenty of toilets and showers all kept very clean (although toilet cubicles a little on the small side - could be a problem for larger people). Showers have shelf in for soap etc and a separate area with hooks to keep your clothes dry. Mop and bucket left out to clean up if you make a mess.
Great views from the top half of the site (on their map this is the bit with the children's playground down to the pitches level with the toilet block). Also note that the bottom half is on a slope so walking up to the toilets could be an issue for some although I have seen much worse slopes and longer walks.
Freindly site owners who let us go and chose a pitch. They even gave us the numbers of the ones they didn't need the next day so we didn't have to rush off!
Hardly any road noise (one of my pet hates when camping) during the day and none at all at night.
The only problem we had was that there is no separate tent area which meant we were surrounded by caravans with hook up who spent all evening watching television. This completely ruined my evening as my reason for camping is to be able to sit and enjoy the quiet (unless on a UKCS meet of course). I decided the morning would make up for it but unfortuntely the people next to us couldn't exist for a moment without a TV and turned theirs on again at 7.30 the next morning.
No pub in walking distance but plenty at Mevagissey and one at Gorran Haven. Great sandy beach at Gorran Haven and large car park £1 all day (may be more in season). Beach cafe but didn't notice if any toilets as we didn't stay long enough to need them. Half way between site and St Austell is a large caravan/camping shop which has everything you could possibly need except for the one thing I forgot (cheap mugs). The junction at St Austell has a McD and Pizza Hut and there is an Asda and a Tesco close to those.
We spent a lovely week here, what a bargain, we got it cheaper as it was near the end of season and it was the best holiday we had this year. Beautiful park lovely scenery, friendly staff, great pitch, very clean showers. The pool was nice and clean, shop limited on stock but did nice grub reasonably priced. Near to the beach by car, well worth a visit if you like it peaceful and scenic and the weather was gorgeous that week lucky for us would go back again sometime.
Went here towards the end of August, the site was nice, great shop which does hot food on site. The toilet block is large and we rarely had to queue for showers and it was clean. Their pool is lovely too. The site is on a slope, though the pitches are pretty level - but we were at the bottom of the site so the walk to do the washing up was a bit of a hike with our bowl! The kids play area was a good space with all sorts of bits for the kids to play on. The staff were helpful. It is near the Lost Gardens of Heligan, we took the boat to Fowey which is nice, and there is a lovely sandy beach at Goran Haven which isn't too far to drive. We would go back and had a lovely time.
It is rare in this country of ours that a true bargain can be had, however at £50 for 10 nights (inc electric hook-up) this site represents one of my bargains of the year. The fact that the site is lovely, peaceful and everything that others have said, makes it a remarkable place to stay.
Worth a quick mention however are that half the site slopes down towards pitches 99, 98, 97 etc, although the pitches are on the whole level. It does mean a steep walk to the facilities for those less firm. Also out of Summer you lose any sun you might be enjoying, quite early down there. It might be a little remote for some, there is no pub within easy walking distance, although a 3 quid taxi will take you the 1 1/2 miles to the nearest hostelry. My biggest gripe however was the attitude of the man who takes care of maintainance. He hit the side of my parents van so hard, in relation to a waste pipe that had popped off that they were convinced it would be dented. His manner was at best gruff at worst downright rude. Somebody needs to have a word with him and remind him he is in the service and tourist industries. This I am at pains to point out is in complete contrast to the rest of the staff who were completely charming, friendly and helpful.
My parents wouldn't hesitate at going back, I would think twice only because it was a bit remote for me. £5 a night for a late late break is very tempting though. Ah what the hell? Where's the phone?!
Just returned from a 5 night stay. The site is in a great area, close to some lovely beaches - Caerhays national trust beach (2.5 miles) is wonderful and allows dogs all year round and out of season we had the whole beach nearly to ourselves. Gorran Haven also close. The site itself was very quiet amongst farmland. On arrival we were taken to our pitch by a friendly chap in a 4x4 who pitched and levelled our caravan for us. Some pitches are slightly sloping. The dog walk was useful, however its purely a dog 'area' rather than a walk and if you have large energetic dogs this may not be sufficient for lots of exercise. The showers are near the entrance to the park. They were always very clean, although I would say they could do with some updating they were adequate and hot. The shop was closed which was a bit of a pain having to go out in the car all the time for groceries as there was no nearby shop. To sum up we would definitely recommend this site for families as it represented excellent value for money (especially in the summer with the pool/tennis courts and shop open), in a great area for touring Cornwall with friendly owners.
We have just got back from a week at this campsite and were very pleased with it
The shower block was very clean and although it had only 5 showers we never had to wait for one.
The swimming pool was great for kids and adults with seating around the outside to sunbath the only down side was it shut at 6 and when it was hot another hour would of been good.
The shop and takeaway are very good and the food was fantastic (all freshly cooked)
All in all a fab site that we would revisit and recommend, with lots to do and see around the area .
