Chestnut Meadow is a lovely campsite. Perfect for children, great outdoor play area. No cars so a circular route for bikes/scooters etc
Great dog walk. Adjacent field.
It absolutely chucked it down the whole weekend we were there. The plastic matting they have on the ground which the grass grows through, for the areas your van drives on enables the drainage to work so well that we weren't affected by mud.
The games room which has a pool table, air hockey, foosball, giant connect 4 & I think table tennis wow what a god send in the rain.
Didn't sample the cafe. Did have organic sausages from the reception shop they were gorgeous.
Really friendly staff lovely site would definitely return.
Really lovely site, with level pitches and good facilities for the children, including indoor and outdoor play areas.
Toilets and showers were of the top quality and lovely and clean and warm.
The owners are very friendly and they keep everything very well kept on the site, they also make sure that everyone is thoughtful towards other campers keeping the noise levels quiet after 11pm.
This site is a family site and ideal for children of all ages. We don't like noisy sites that have big group bookings with everyone getting drunk, and in our experience this wouldn't happen here.
There is a great pub/restaurant up the road that does all you can eat Sunday roast for only £3 which is just amazing and enough to keep my husband returning on that basis alone.
All in all lovely little site and we have booked again for 2012.
Agree with previous reviews. Lovely big pitches, no extra charge for pup tents. Lovely and clean; often saw the owners cleaning the toilet block.
Play barn was a hit with our children aged 8 and 12. Can hire snooker room for £3 an hour. Wooden playarea was good. Buckets provided for rubbish or recycling.
Staff very friendly. Hungry Horse pub within walking distance (children's meals £1 on Mon & Tue) - ask for directions at Reception.
Overall summary, great site and would definitely return.
Fantastic site! From the moment our group of 8 units arrived we couldn't have been treated in a more friendly and accommodating way.
Pitches: simply massive! As long as we kept within our boundaries we were allowed gazebos etc. For our group we were positioned so that we could face into each other creating our own mini centre space to each and socialise in.
Shower block: clean; always hot water; showers have good flow
Games Room/Play area: everything you need to keep toddlers, children and teens occupied in a safe environment
Cafe: nice bonus; food is excellent. And it's even licensed!
'Open Area': plenty of room in central area for balls to be kicked/thrown about without disrupting pitches
Area: we were there to take in the Eastbourne airshow, so didn't explore much apart from travelling to and from Eastbourne. Pretty quite though as well set back from the 'main' road that the site is accessed from.
Really like the attention to 'green' issues with re-cycling encouraged and many of the facilities build adopting green principles.
All in all delivers on exactly what the owners set out to achieve. A family friendly, well maintained site.
We stayed here for a 5 day break. From the moment we arrived the staff were very friendly and helpful.
We were shown to our pitches which are very large, as my sister also has a tent it was not a problem to put the two tents facing one another to make our own little (large) camp!
our kids ( age 5-12) were off and playing straight away and came back so excited when they found out about the games room, with football tables and other games that were free!
Just a small deposit for the snooker room and pool table. As for the toilets they were the best I have ever seen at a campsite! Fantastic!
There's lots of different things to do around the area, as we had a few dogs with us we had some lovely walks and picnics at Fairlight Glen in Hastings and Seven Sisters near Eastbourne.
Must admit though the kids couldn't wait to get back to the campsite! I can't wait until January so I can book a couple of visits for next year!
Just 15 minutes from Ashford and 25 minutes from fabulous beaches, you'll be ideally placed for exploring the Garden of England. The park is divided into a family area, that is close to the play parks, the sports field and the games room, and a peaceful adult-only area in The Meadows, that is ideal for couples. A range of grass and hardstanding pitches, fully serviced or non electric, catering for all sized of tents and caravans.
On both areas you will enjoy five-star, centrally-heated showers, and private cubicles with toilet, hand basin, dryers etc. Laundry and campers kitchens, a large childrens playground, sports field, games room and television lounge. The park has CCTV and WiFi is available for a small fee. A dog walking area is provided on site. Find out more here
Very friendly and helpful staff which makes a big difference. Check-in took seconds which is just what you need after a long drive.
Very generous, level pitch overlooking large green space in the centre of the site which is great for ball games, etc and with picnic tables where our girls sat to do drawing.
Facilities are fantastic. Very clean, spacious, and light. Regularly cleaned and plenty of toilet roll. Keeping them clean meant that campers seemed to take more care too. Very reliable, hot showers with a good supply of water. Hot water for washing up - plenty of sinks and under cover.
Great playground and games room for the one wet day we had. Cafe was perfect - good selection of dishes to suit all and reasonable prices. Better than average food and a smashing choice of cakes!
Well stocked shop again with reasonable prices. And a massive chest freezer where you can leave your ice packs for free - not having to pay makes a big difference to me!
Laundrette only has one washing machine but it was free both times I needed it. There's also two large sinks which were perfect for rinsing sandy towels.
Only slight negative for me was the view of the sea was only just there from one or two pitches but it didn't affect my time at all!
Exceptional, would definitely recommend this site. (Although, selfishly, would prefer to keep it to ourselves!) We are a fussy family with teenage girls and have only been camping for a few years. We don't like to 'rough it'.
Pros :- Very clean, showers/toilets & wash cubicles, light, airy & gleaming & were cleaned daily (Even had a hairdryer & huge mirrors-happy girlies!)
Site/gardens/washing up area & pitches were the same high standard. Friendly, helpful owners/staff.
Lovely shop with everything you'd need from food & essentials to camping bits & treats.
Great location for sightseeing, 10/15mins by car to Battle, great for exploring 1066, cream teas & shopping! 10 mins to pebbly beach & great fish & chips!
Cons :- Honestly cannot think of any! Reason for writing this review now as opposed to when we stayed, is I'm not one for leaving reviews, but having just returned from another campsite, I have realised just how good this site is.
We tried to find another site as good as this, but in a different area, as we wanted to see other parts of the southeast, but having just returned from our hols disappointed, yep - you've guessed - we will be back ! Thank you Chestnut - looking forward to seeing you again
Just got back from a long Bank Holiday weekend here and was very impressed with both the quiet location and the facilities. The pitches are really generous and flat.
The owners / staff were really friendly and approachable - nothing was too much trouble and they coped with our large group admirably!
The cafe is excellent and the portions are huge - we were very grateful for this as the weather made barbecue a bit difficult.
The kids enjoyed the games room (and the adults enjoyed a snooker tournament too.)
The loos and showers are some of the best I have seen - very clean, lots of room and really well set out. We were thankful for the hairdryers too.
All in all I really liked this site and I would have no hesitation in rebooking here next season.
We just returned from a four night bank holiday break. The facilities of this campsite are very good, clean and well maintained. Great kids indoor and outdoor play area and the Cafe was great!
Outstanding food and there, as everywhere the staff could not have been friendlier.
But we found this to be a site for groups of family and friends to meet with their tents / caravans and the site does not limit the number of tents of one party, which in our case meant we were next to one group of 4 and one group of 5 tents with a LOT of noise even past the curfew.
For us this site has more the feel of a holiday park rather than a small luxury campsite.
What an excellent site. The staf were friendly and very helpful, even for things not related to the site.
The pitch was big and well drained.
The toilet block was fabulous with about 6 showers and plenty of toilets, handbasins and wash rooms. They were always clean and tidy.
The games room was great for the kids (and adults too) with a snooker and pool tables among other games.
The site was ideal for looking around the area and also for Hastings and Eastbourne. We visited places like Battle, Rye, Bexhill which were all well worth a look.
The bar meals were excellent and reasonable. The shop was well stocked and not badly priced.
Set in 500 acres of beautiful, rolling Kent countryside. The Oast village on site is the World's largest Oast house collection and makes for a spectacular backdrop. Grass and hardstanding pitches for caravans, tents and motorhomes with electric option. Modern toilets and showers and multiple washing up facilities.
Small shop onsite and pub/restaurant at the entrance. The River Medway flows through the site, providing idyllic waterside pitches. Make the most of the location and try your hand at canoeing or fishing or simply sit back, unwind and enjoy wildlife spotting. Just got back today. We stayed Friday to Monday. The owners are lovely, the site is well kept - nice distance to loos from our pitch and space in middle of site to play ball games etc.
Loos are clean and modern. Pitch quite level and space to park etc. Prices are on the higher side compared to other sites, but its worth it as its a great site. Shop on site with the essentials, as well as a cafe.
There is a games room with free air hockey game and also table football.
Pitches are huge. We really enjoyed our stay. Will definitely visit again. Shame we had problems with out tent, but still a nice break.
Chestnut Meadow was as all other reviews have stated. Pretty much perfect and without a thing to complain about.
The check-in process was very smooth, with very friendly staff.
We were shown to our pitch by a man with 'crazy hair' (not my description but theirs!) on his bike.
The pitches are very large, and they don't charge for an extra gazebo or alternative structure as most other sites do.
The playground for the kids is modern, clean and has plenty to keep them occupied. Add to this a large building with table football, pool, a huge 'Connect 4' game, books and colouring equipment, air hockey, table tennis and a snooker table, all of which are free with the exception of the snooker, and you really have loads to keep children entertained.
The reception area doubles up as a small shop selling all your essentials. They even deliver your morning paper if you wish!
Tents and camper vans are all sited round the circumference of the site. This leaves a large grassed area in the middle allowing you to keep an eye on the kids at all times.
Finally, they have a cafe/restaurant on site. This is certainly more than a cafe but a little less than a restaurant. The food was very nice and averagely priced.
Overall, as I said as the start, a really good site for both children and adults alike.
We spent two nights at this site with a group of friends, and absolutely loved it. The site is a great size - large enough fo the kids to go off exploring; small enough not to worry about them. There are generously sized allocated pitches but the site is not 'overly manicured' and still has a beautiful natural look to it.
There is a brand-new looking play area; a well stocked indoor games room, and a lovely open space in the middle of the site which was used for games of cricket, football and rounders.
The loo block was spotless, with enough facilities that meant there was no queueing and always hot water.
A well stocked little shop, where they ordered the newspapers for the next day, and didn't charge for freezing ice packs. Also a lovely little cafe where you could either eat in or takeaway.
Without exception, the owners and staff were friendly and helpful. They did a little walk round the site just after 11pm to remind everyone in the nicest possible way to be quiet.
I seriously would struggle to fault this site, and will certainly be back again.
Well this site is a gem, and it as got to be the cleanest toilets and showers I have ever seen.
We stayed for 2 weeks, and the weather was fantastic for all our stay.
Plenty of gorgeous towns to visit, and gorgeous beaches, we loved Eastbourne, which wasn't too far away, and the chef in the restaurant advised us on going to the Market at Rye which is on on Thursday, and that was great.
The restaurant did a mean breakfast, but cannot comment on anything else, as that is all we tried.
We had the joy of busy weekends, and then the joy of peace during the week, but what a friendly site this is, and well looked after.
Would definitely return if it wasn't so far away from me, as I live up North.
