Stayed for the weekend, the site was very busy at the time however it’s a well run site and the owners were on top of everything,

The late evening views from the site are spectacular,

We ate in the café next to the site it was simple food but well presented and cooked,

It’s a steep walk down to Keswick but we needed the exercise and it was worth it,

Keswick has some great pubs and always something going on, a number of street entertainers kept us laughing it was a great weekend.

The site was very quiet after 10pm as the owners are strict in keeping the site comfortable for everyone, which is a good thing,

Toilet block was very busy but was kept clean,

People running the site were friendly and very helpful

Take some cash as the café did not do plastic but the site office opened just to give me some cash on my card, which I thought was very good of them as it was 9pm.

I would return no problem great location.

We arrived unannounced due to our booked campsite down in the town being under 4 foot of water. Greeted by the owner who was very accommodating. We camped at the top of the field which is a distance from the toilets, but the flattest part of the field. Awesome panoramic views of the lakes and surrounding hills, but a little windy, we broke 2 tent poles.

There is a cafe on site serving basic food, and a great little shop with the basics, There is also another camp shop across the road at the Castlerigg Hall campsite if you need it.

Toilets were great, but don't forget a few 50p pieces. The querky crag inn pub just down the road was amusing but very small if the site is busy.

It is only a 25minute walk down a lovely path to the centre of Keswick then a taxi home was only £4, the walk back would have been a little too steep and dark with a few drinks inside us.

A fantastic find and we will definitely return.

Another great stay at this great site. This was my second visit to this site, as the main requirement is that there is no noise after 2230hrs (even though) it is child and pet friendly.

I must say I was pleasantly surprised when I was charged for one person even though I used my two person tent as opposed to my usual one man tent, a lot of sites have a tendency to charge you for the tent occupancy {in my experience}!

Could I just take this opportunity to thank Barry the Landlord of the Crag Bar for his hospitality too, because no more than camp site owners, local hostelries’ are also a welcome site?

I will definitely stay again. Very soon. Thanks once again. Richard

Having stayed at Castlerigg Hall last year we thought we’d try Castlerigg Farm this time. We stayed here for one night in a tent mid-week, it wasn’t busy. The tent area is generally sloping in varying degrees and the ground was stony causing many short tent pegs to bend.

The field is well kept and open giving a very spacious feel to it with lovely views.

The shower and toilet block are basic but ok, although I can see if it was busy there wouldn’t be enough toilets and showers to go around.

There is nowhere to walk the dog on site although there is a footpath running down the side of the tent field behind the stone wall but one cannot access it from the site, which is a shame and means one has to walk out of the front entrance and back up the lane to then walk the dog (on the lead) along the footpath which cuts along the side of fields with livestock in them.

This was our fourth stay here. It was crowded for jubilee weekend, but tbh I would have been annoyed to be turned away. I had no problems with the toilets but there were queues for washing up. I didn't bother with a shower so can't comment!

We stay here because it's clean, reasonably quiet, and has amazing views of the fells, it's fantastic to come back year on year and look over to where you've climbed or walked and be able to add another piece into the jigsaw. The shop is small but surprisingly well stocked, you could throw the tent in the car and rock up and be able to get a decent meal together from there.

The hayloft cafe was nice, friendly service.

I don't like the Crag bar over the road, it's just grim, cramped without being intimate, needs a good clean and a refurb.

You can walk down a lovely footpath into Keswick and enjoy the town if the rain is too bad!

Overall an excellent site which I came to by accident having thought I was heading for Castlerigg Hall across the road, where I have been before, years ago.

The Castlerigg sites are just too far from Keswick to make it difficult to walk back after an evening painting the town red, so be ready for someone not to drink, or to use the bus. Or use the local (packed) pub.

We had the Jubilee weekend here: mixed temperatures and wind, no rain. The turf at Castlerigg Farm is lovely - short grass with no loose cuttings to walk into the tent. Very clean: litter and dog mess free. Most pitches slope to a greater or lesser extent. Peg insertion is not easy.

We laughed a bit at the incessantly repeated notices about 'silence after 10. 30 pm'. It strikes me that this rule serves principally to prevent certain types of campers (groups of youngsters, basically) from using the site. It does NOT guarantee silence after 10. 30, although the site is genuinely quiet and the general atmosphere is very pleasant.

I hadn't spotted the 50p charge for the 3. 5 minute shower on the site's website, although it is clearly there. Three and a half minutes is a reasonable time for a shower provided that the flow is good and you can get temperature adjusted and stable quite quickly. This is not the case with every shower at Castlerigg. If you wish to maintain a good level of personal hygiene, the 50p charge needs to be factored in to the budget as it will significantly add to the cost of your stay.

During the Jubilee weekend the site was, unsurprisingly, packed. I would say that the numbers present were significantly higher than the shower and toilet facilities could handle. During the course of the weekend the smell in the toilet block worsened, with queues for showers and loos. Toilets in both gents and ladies' loos became blocked: in the gents one cubicle was out of action for at least 8 hours. With only three showers and four toilet cubicles for each sex it is hard to say that the facilities were adequate for the number of people on site.

For us a very positive feature of the site was the Hayloft Cafe - under new management, with a simple menu of good locally sourced food. We ended up eating here three times, appreciating the excellent food, friendly service and reasonable charges, including the £1 corkage. I intend to review the cafe elsewhere.

The site staff are friendly and helpful, and overall I would recommend the site warmly. I can believe that the toilet block troubles were exceptional, due to the Bank Holidays, and may not be a general reflection.

 Jubilee weekend.

We expected it to be full, but boy oh boy did the cram em' in.

We have stopped at this campsite 7 times, that tells you we like it. Everything about the sites is great, the field, the toilets/showers, shop, its position, and the views are amazing. So as ever the campsite was good, what you would expect for £25 per night for a family of 4 on a bank holiday weekend.

This has been our usual spring bank trip for many years. So we have seen the full board plenty of times, as we did this year. But this time the word full was used to the max. This was Glastonbury style camping with people sleeping 5 foot apart.

I can understand the owners cashing in, times are hard and if folks want to part with their money, fair play. But if you get stung once you hesitate before returning. I will definitely give castlerigg farm a swerve on bank holidays in future.

Upon arrival at the site, we were met by the owner who politely showed us to our pitch in a second, fairly level field, further away from the farm, down a lane. We were alarmed at how tightly packed the tents and cars were - practically guy to guy (Surely this breaks some sort of fire safety rule). Given that it was the Jubilee weekend, we 'put up and shut up'.

We were pleasantly surprised by the site's great facilities. Six dishwashing sinks, undercover, next to the showers and loos. (Ladies: 4 loos, 3 showers) The showers were beautifully hot at most times (around 40 degrees, which may be a little on the hot side for little ones but my 11 year-old enjoyed them. ) Plenty of bins for the size of site.

There isn't much close by the site and Keswick is a good 3 miles away but there is a pleasant walk to the Castlerigg Stone Circle which is worth a visit.

The views from the site are beautiful as it is surrounded by mountains. This does make it a bit windy at times and we all had our mallets out to readjust guys one night.

There didn't appear to be an advertised 'quiet rule' but things settled down at around 11 pm anyway.

There are no playground facilities for children and there wasn't a large enough area for them to play. They tended to play 'hide and seek' between tents which may annoy some occupants.

The owner is a daily presence, cleaning, tweaking and sorting and seemed very firm with people who had just 'turned up' and was insistent that they must book. We overheard a few heated discussions over this matter as a few people 'chanced their arm' and just started pitching their tents willy nilly.

All in all, a very pleasant stay. The over-crowding was a bit of an issue for us personally and would probably prevent us from returning to the site. A shame really because otherwise, it is a bit of a gem.

We stayed at Castlerigg farm over the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend. I must admit the views from all angles are breathtaking. There is a handy cafe, although we didn't use it, and a small pub across the road.

The field we stayed in was on a bit of an incline but it wasn't a problem. The main problem we had was the way in which all the cars and tents were squeezed in. I know it was a busy weekend an you can't pre-book tent pitches here, but by the time all the campers were in place the field felt more like a car park than a campsite.

This made it difficult to even get your car off site as you couldn't get past the other tents. This also lead to there being very little open space for the children to play. The facilities were fine. They were clean, however, no loo roll on either morning and there was always a queue for toilets and showers morning and evening.

Overall this is a very scenic campsite with all the usual adequate facilities very close to Keswick (25 min walk). The site is very strict about complete silence after 10. 30 so if you don't want to be in bed by then then this wouldn't be for you.

I wouldn't recommend coming over a busy bank holiday as they had everyone packed in like sardines and the small amount of showers and toilets were very busy but it would probably be ok during quieter times.

Stayed here for one night on way home from Scotland.

Overall a very good site, location is excellent with mountain views all round & looks down into Keswick.

A couple of decent walks off site if you have dogs, Site appears to be well kept, toilets are very good,

Pub just 100 yrds from site but could be crowded with two sites on it's door step.

Negative points, access into site is a little tight with a long caravan & we observed one doing quite a bit of manoeuvring to get out.

The water on site was yellow, not sure if this was due to some maintenance being done & I'm sure was perfectly drinkable but we avoided it all the same.

Stayed for 2 nights, beautiful setting great walks from site, only short walk through woods to Keswick 20/25 mins.

Site warden very helpful,

toilet block spotless, bit pricey to shower (50p) 3 half mins.

Pub just 2mins away but only serves vegetarian meals, but plenty more pubs in Keswick for us meat eaters.

Out of our 2 day visit the first day was lovely and sunny, so the views were stunning. Then it rained rained all night and the next day, but still plenty to do when you visit the Lake District.

Will definitely come back to this site.

Does what it says on the tin! A beautiful location to pitch a tent, easily acceptable from the A66.

No noise what so ever, even before nine (pm). This is what you want after a hard week at work and a after a long drive.

Toilets and showers very clean, receptionist straight to the point, 'No noise after 10:30pm'. My colleague and I had a great night’s sleep with not a lager lout in sight!

Nice level pitches and easy access with the car. I would definitely stay at this site again; in fact it's on the 'top' of my list.

Stayed here for two nights over a very wet weekend and it was excellent. Very quiet due to the 10. 30 curfew, great pitches for the tents with really lovely views down to Derwentwater and the surrounding hills.

The facilities are very good, nice little shop for the basics, and excellent hot powerful showers which are 50p for 3. 5 minutes. This seems a bit steep at first but it's worth it.

The owners are very helpful though very strict about the 10. 30 curfew and do explain that if you want to sit up chatting then the campsite over the road is probably the better one for you.

Would definitely visit again and cross my fingers for a bit less rain this time. !

Stayed at this site in our folding camper for 5 nights. This is a lovely clean pleasant site and just the job for us. Good location just on the outskirts of Keswick 20min walk, so were told !

We were pitched on slight incline which was'nt a problem and the owners were more than helpful with blocks. The toilet blocks and facilities were very good and a shop that had a good selection and never seemed to run out.

It rained for 2 days and the place drained very well and you were able to park next to your unit. Loads of space on our pitch and seemed spaciuos on the other ones.

The no noise policy worked very well and slept great without the normal laughter at 3am.

The only gripe would be the brown tinge to the water but bottled water was 3 x 2ltr for £1 so no problems really.

In all a great site, good price and very helpful.

My wife and I used to come to Castlerigg Farm campsite quite regularly when we first started camping, so it's always been a special place for us.

We hadn't been for several years due to it always being jam packed when we headed there. Anyway, we took a chance and took our 4 year old with us on the Friday morning of the August bank holiday weekend.

Although it was extremely busy we managed to get a decent spot within spitting distance of the toilet/shower block and had a lovely weekend.

It was good to see that not an awful lot had changed since we last came although I didn't recognise one or two of the staff (there used to be a little, cheeky geordie chap with glasses that worked there who we didn't see this time).

The toilet block is still immaculate and the shop is still well stocked. The no noise rule is strictly adhered to and from 10. 30pm there's barely a sound, other than people toing and froing to the toilet.

I have to say that the Hayloft Cafe is a nice addition. It's a cute, cosy, place with friendly staff and a chilled out atmosphere. The food is also hot, tasty and easy on the wallet.

Having returned for the first time in a number of years I maintain that Castlerigg Farm is still the best campsite in the Keswick area for couples and families. It's well run and in a great location with good facilities and great walks within easy reach.

For good camping with one or two comforts and a guaranteed noise free sleep it wins hands down in my opinion.
