This is a stroll up and pitch type site, handy for the larger tent or groups wishing to spend the evening around a bar-b-que. We pitched in the top field which is the last of three fields given over solely to tents. Plenty of room for the kids to run around, play footie, fly kites etc and a good view down a natural valley.
The shop was well stocked with local produce, info. Etc and the main toilet block was the best we have encountered with a cracking little family room with a small bath, shower and toilet saving all the faff we normally have showering three young children in cramped showers. There were plenty of showers except at peak times when the women seemed to queue out the doors and down the site. There was never a real queue for the blokes showers.
The area, spot on for children activities for sunny and rainy days.
The downside- This site has a drainage problem, which the owners recognise and to their credit warn about on their website. Unfortunately there is a stagnant pool of water in the top field and on a hot day can stink, incorporate that with the "country smells" drifting up from the cow barn and it can be a heady mixture. Also the field itself is rutted in areas where cars have created trenches in the wet weather. These can fill with water on a rainy day.
Would we revisit? With a run of hot, dry weather - Yes, if it is predicted to rain - No.
Stayed with 2 children - 7 and 4. We were in the bottom ‘top field’. Height of floods - ground very squishy. No marked pitches so lovely and relaxed. Fantastic setting – peaceful. Loo block OK (no showers in this field). Typically muddy and out of date but did the job. Bottom field showers very clean/modern. Only one family room and a long queue for all showers at peak times. Launderette good. Washing up block excellent and kept very clean. Children’s park small and only OK for small children but often busy with big children who are not supervised. Farmer checks each night on quad bike and ensures site is orderly. Groups kept in separate field and caravans tend to be in the main field – which has a more structured feel to it. Site shop superb. Sells everything from food to camping equipment and nothing overpriced. Yes, it smells of the country here but this is a working farm! Farms aren’t always pretty! Restaurant food (didn’t eat there) looked simple, adequately priced. Very close to Corfe (good bakery and corner shop) and Swanage for shopping/seaside. Loved this site, hated the weather! And please get better loos and a shower for top field. We will come back.
We came upon this site by pure accident. I am a new-ish camper, this being my 3rd time in the past 4 years. I can only say if all camp sites were like this then I think more people would camp. It is superb! Yes, on first sight it does look a little worn down but I think in retrospect this all adds to it's charm. The setting is quiet and serene with hills and woods on all sides. There are long rambling walks through the woods with little chance of bumping into another soul for hours. The facilities on site were new and modern and sparkly clean which is a must. There is a small children's play area in full view of the washing up room so they don't get bored while the adults do the chores. I had a play on the swings. You're never too old! For me, being surrounded by the sounds of the working farm was just brilliant. The staff and other campers were all very friendly. The site is situated close to most of the nearby tourist attractions and the local beaches. All only a short car ride away. We squeezed into the on-site restaurant by pure luck rather than judgment and the food was lovely and very reasonably priced. I recommend the lemon meringue. It was to die for. We'll definitely be back when we have kids. There's enough to keep them entertained when they are still small but not sure if it's ideal for stroppy computer addicted teenagers :-)
This site is in a lovely location. The shower/toilet facilities are good, although they are a little walk if you are in the top field.
Corfe Castle is a short walk away, with the castle and some nice pubs available. We went to the Greyhound, which had good food, a nice garden and a lively social set up, including live music.
Is site had very good reviews, so expectations were high. We stayed for 4 nights over the May bank holiday. The site blurb denotes 92 pitches, I would say there is probably at least 350. The site consists of four Fields: Top, Main, Donkey and Pond. The last three have a capacity of approx. 50/60 pitches in each. I don’t know what the full capacity of the Top Field is, but I do know that when we were in it, we counted over 160 other tents. So, all in all, this campsite has at least 350 ‘pitches’. Just imagine there were, say, 3 persons to each pitch – you do the sums and you’ll get the picture, it was like being part of some kind of mass rally/rave. Due to these numbers, it was obviously not a “quiet, away from it all site”. You could pitch anywhere in the Top Field and this must’ve been a bonus for all the various groups that were there on the BH weekend. The single track around the site and the volume of cars provided a constant build-up of traffic throughout as various vehicles had to reverse to allow other vehicles to enter/exit. This was most in evidence on the track from the Main Field to the Top Field. The track in itself has split the field into two halfs. We wondered if those sited in the Main Field felt they were part of the audience to an M25 show! Needless to say, the constant flow of vehicles arriving/departing, reversing etc negated a quiet and peaceful ambience to the site. In addition, the site is just off the A351 which was audible, so provided plenty of ‘humming’ at nights/early morning. Facilities in the Top Field consisted of 6 toilets and 4 washing up sinks and 1 water tap in the middle of the Field with no drainage other than a pallet! These facilities required maintenance as there were broken toilet seats, taps that didn’t turn off properly and no hot water for washing up. Now to the main shower/toilet block, yes it is new and fully functional with hot water. There were 6 showers for men and the same for women. 1 hairdryer, no bins. However, there was plenty of queuing. And no, they weren’t clean. There was also laundry provision. There was a good, well stocked shop open 8am – 8pm with fresh eggs, bread. There was a small playground next to showers which consisted of boot slide and 2 swings. The pet’s corner was run down with poorly-looking animals:1 pig, 2 goats, 4 rabbits and several poultry. Overall, the site is really not good enough – rutted, lumpy ground, with plenty of sheep muck with areas that get carved up in bad weather. Hit & miss facilities which were too few and far away from the Top Field. We wanted a small, quiet and rural site – this, it was not, so a huge disappointment.
We live 1/2 an hour away but have been going to Norden Farm for over 10 years. My first experience camping was in a two man tent with my husband and it had taken a lot of persuasion to get me there! He only managed by assuring me that as it was only up the road, if I didn't like it I could go home! Needless to say we go every year for a long weekend around May.
I love it! You're smack bang in the middle of the countryside and a working farm surrounded by friendly people and lots to see. The showers/toilets are all clean with plenty of hot water.
There is shop on site that is amply stocked and even a small garden centre.
We are not big walkers but we even manage to walk into Corfe and back again for an evening.
Don't expect entertainment at the site as it is a beautifully simple and very much back to nature.
We have a Diablo 900 and do struggle to find campsites which don't want to charge us for two pitches in the school holidays!
We came across Norden Farm by chance and what a find it was. We ended up going back 3 times last season and this year will be doing the same. It's a working dairy farm so my children got to see the cow's being milked (which kept them occupied every afternoon) and our trip coincided with calving season so they witnessed a birth from the comfort of the hay bails in the barn. The new toilets and showers keep make for an even more pleasant experience.
Pet's corner is a nice daily stroll. All in all this is fantastic for us but some people may miss the lack of facilities eg swimming pool, bar etc - all depends what you're after in a holiday but thoroughly recommended by my whole family.
After 25 odd years, I returned to the farm with my husband and our children and was thrilled to discover that apart from the new loo / shower block, not a lot else had changed! There were even lots of old friends there, people I used to play with when I was kid back with their children too(obviously with a few more wrinkles like me!) so we were able to catch up briefly!
My parents used to bring myself, 2 brothers and sister here when we were kids for most school holidays, if not all, and every holiday was fantastic!
My family and I came in 2005 for a couple of days to try out the "new tent". The new loo/shower block wasn't built then, they were still using the original facilities they had when I first came down with my parents, actually that is not strictly true, the first year we came down there were no facilities at all!
August 2006 was lovely albeit very busy, the top field was heaving as was the field the other side of the cow path, but had a very friendly atmosphere.
There are washing up, laundry, toilet and shower facilities, a well stocked shop. The guest house I have been told was nice although we have not stayed there, the restaurant we have tried and that was pleasant too!
Being that it is a working farm, there are usually cows and other animals around and on the odd ocassion you are able to see a calf being born, which might not be everybodys cup of tea but our kids were amazed!
Swanage is only a short drive away, Studland bay also which is an amazing beach. Both Studland and Corfe Castle are owned by the National Trust now, membership is handy for the beach as the daily charge for parking I thought was quite a lot. Although saying that the up keep of the beach was excellent! Obviously the Castle too!
The week we were there was Swanage carnival week so we took the oppurtunity to go into town to see the firework display via the railway from Norden. The kids really enjoyed it and it saved trying to find a parking space once we were in Swanage.
A beautifully situated site which is very friendly, with good clean facilities and a well stocked shop and amazing scenery. We fully recommend paying this site a visit.wonderful I feel like I'm going home each time we go!
WOW although the weather wasn't great, expected for the time of year the site was excellent never experienced showers and toilets quite like it first class, the new shower and toilet definitely made an impression they are really kept up to an excellent standard and I will be returning next year, the staff are very helpful and its good to see working farms still exist here in the uk.
Very good site. Kids loved the sheep in the same field as us in the mornings. Amazing views in the 'Top Field'. Didn't try the restaurant as it was fully booked but the shop was pretty good. Toilets and showers in the main block were superb - but too far from our field, another block is required as it must be a really busy site at times. The farm itself lets the entrance area down as it is very cluttered with junk basically! Overall though - we'll be back!
We had three nights here. Spent our time in the top field and shared it with, at most, eight other tents. It was quiet and spacious and on one night exceedingly windy. I guess there is little actual shelter from the trees.
Blackberries and sloes in abundance right by our tent. Gorgeous walks into Corfe - actually in the cloud on the way there and through a beautiful mossy dappled sunlit wood on the way back by which time the cloud had lifted to reveal blue sky and the wind had finally dropped. Could have spent longer there but had to get back for school starting the next day.
Aside from the new shower/toilet block, the facilities were adequate and kept very clean. No issues there at all.
Would recommend this site to anyone. Lots of sky and lots of quiet.
Just returned from this excellent site. They accept advance bookings even for short periods which is an advantage when you have excited kids in tow and you have to work before leaving on a bank holiday weekend! We were in the 'top field' and although it was very busy we managed to find an adequate pitch. Take spare pegs though as the ground is very rocky! The loos in that field are in urgent need of updating but it isn't far to the new block which are among the best facilities I've ever seen on a camp site.
The footpath walk to Corfe (25mins with 3 kids) and a visit to the castle is well worth it - take a torch and you can walk back after an evening drink in the greyhound! The steam train to Swanage is great but to be honest you may as well catch it at Corfe as 'across the road' involves a very busy roundabout and an A road with no pavement and isn't much nearer.
What a lovely campsite this is. My husband, myself and our two teenagers had a relaxing 4 nights here. It was like a little community, and one of the things I liked about it was that there were lots of families. Some with young children and some with teens. It was liberating not to be watching the clock when my 13year old daughter went to the shower block or to the shop on her own, because there were so many other children around. The showers were clean and hot and I didn't mind the wait. The toilets in the main shower block were really clean and new. The toilets in the top field were more spidery, but it was all part of getting back to nature! The sheep calling to each other in the early morning, in the field, right next to the tent, was an experience as was the evening when the cows were walking to the end field when a few escaped into the tent field! It was all part of the fun. The washing machine was out of order the nights we stayed, but I just refreshed our clothes with a quick spray of Fabreze. All in all, a really lovely site. I can wholeheartedly recommend it and we will be returning there next year!
We have been coming to this wonderful site for many years. New shower and lavatory block makes it even better. Good shop on site and only a short drive from Studland beach. Friendly, helpful staff. My children's favourite site. They love the farm animals.
We stayed in the top field with no electrical hook up which suited our needs this time as we'd left it late to book. With 2 adults and 2 teenage (14yrs) girls we found that this site was a great base. As we were only there for 3 nights we went out during the daytime but there was loads of room for games, footy, frisbee, kites etc if we'd had time! There's a great walk from the top field into Corfe Castle which only took about 15 mins. We then walked to the train station and took the steam train to Swanage. We were a bit shocked at the price but when all is considered, £21 for a family return ticket on a steam train isn't too bad really! We also had a great meal at the Halfway Inn which is just up the road. Definitely recommend eating there! The new shower/toilet facilities are well worth the walk down to the farm from the top field as they are clean and private and have plenty of hot water. The toilets up near the top field could do with a good clean as they were thick with cobwebs and dead insects but they served their purpose if you needed the loo asap! The shop was fully stocked and the staff were friendly and helpful. The only thing that I wasn't impressed with as I come from a farming / animal care background, was the pet's corner. The animals inside weren't very clean and didn't seem to see daylight during the 4 days we were there and the cow's in the barn were quite deep in muck. I can appreciate that the farm itself is busy so maybe it was just a matter of a short time before they were all cleaned. All in all though, we had a great stay and will definitely recommend it and also go back.
