Once again we have just returned from rother valley and as usual we loved it, the toilets were in there usual clean and tidy state and the family shower rooms are a godsend.
The porta loo and campers fridge were clean and working well, the playground was well used by the children on site and the bins and water point were nice and clean.
We were met with jackies usual friendly almost family like greeting (especially the dogs), our pitch was in good condition and just as vast as ever.
We really can recommend the White hart pub just up the road along with the Cock inn and the oak&ivy, but our No 1 recommendation has to be the Oak on the way to rye, very nice beer and the best burger I think I have ever had
We find that tesco in hawksworth is the best value and quality locally but jempsons has by far the cheapest petrol in the area
We will be back next year for our fourth visit in a row
Bank holiday weekend, so had a full 3 nights camping at this site booked. The main campsite / rally field was a great big space with loads of room for the kids to play without running around the campers etc. Hookup in some areas on the site and the pitches where a good size to spread out. Fire pits on site was a nice to see and the grass was keep well on and off the pitches.
It was very handy for the the steam railway the local indian restaurant and 1/2 down the road the local pub and opposite the Bodiam river tour to the bodiam castle. It was the 'bodiam boating station' and they had a great new cafe there as well. So position wise is was good and not to far from loads of other attractions as well.
The toilet block was nowhere near in any of my top picks I'm afraid to say. At this price point we have had fantastic toilet/shower blocks. I'm not saying they where all new and fancy, but they had a good ratio of toilets and showers for the amount of campers on site. It was near impossible to be able to get dressed outside the shower and the curtain didn't go down low enough so everything on the floor got wet for me. I'll not go on, but you get the point. Urinal right outside the door of the shower and only 1 toilet with one more up further. Again i'll not go on.
We did spend most time out of the site, but did notice that you had to drive through a mini community. Not just the warden, but we established full time residents. This I have no issue with, but it's not really what I want to pass through going to the toilet and shower.
The kids had the big field and a play area which was good.
There where a great mix of nationalities on site.
Price point would make it more attractive I think, but sorry guys I'll not return.
You have a fab location, but let down with the other major part in my eyes facilities.
Found this campsite on here. Wanted to go further afield for our holiday. Turned up on site and met the owner who was very helpful. Good facilities for our requirements and families. Lovely area to visit lots of different places especially close by to the Kent and East Sussex Railway. Lovely to see and hear the steam train. The bus stop opposite the site to get to Hastings and various places. Lovely walks and river near by. Lovely family site and safe play area. Had a lovely time and would happily go back again.
This was our second visit and we loved it even more than the first time. Lovely place to take the family, including the dog, the badminton set and the tennis one. Very peaceful and well kept, shops near by, close to Hastings, the steam train is awesome and we visited Bodiam castle. Amazing experience all together as there are lovely walks around the place and lots of culture. The weather was perfect, the people were nice. We even tried the local fish and chips shop on our last night. They rent a fire pit if you would like one and was the best idea ever as we ran out of gas one day and we ended up cooking full English breakfast on it.
Just returned from a fantastic couple of weeks at Rother Valley. This is a brilliant site with something for everyone. The main field has electric hook up and could accommodate 3 times as many tents but the whole middle section is kept clear for games and a fantastic sense of space. There are also woodland pitches which looked lovely (though more shady) but don't have EHU. The playground is fab for the kids - it's screened off slightly but you can still see they are there from the tent. The woods are great for exploring for the older ones.
There's loads to do in the area including swimming in the nearby river Rother, boating, steam railway, Bodiam castle, Camber Sands beach etc etc etc.
Yes, the toilet block is a bit smelly, but, having spoken to the very helpful Jackie, there's not much they can do about it and it's all kept very clean. There are only 2 showers in the mens and ladies but there are also two large family shower rooms which was great for us and I never had to queue for a shower either in the morning or the evening. A tip if you like a bit more privacy for your toilet - there are two higher up by the entrance! There was loads of hot water and the one time it went off we mentioned it the warden and it was sorted straight away. There are ice creams and other essentials on sale at good prices, a washer and drier a two freezers and a campers fridge - what more could you want! Whole heartedly recommend Rother Valley.
Just 15 minutes from Ashford and 25 minutes from fabulous beaches, you'll be ideally placed for exploring the Garden of England. The park is divided into a family area, that is close to the play parks, the sports field and the games room, and a peaceful adult-only area in The Meadows, that is ideal for couples. A range of grass and hardstanding pitches, fully serviced or non electric, catering for all sized of tents and caravans.
On both areas you will enjoy five-star, centrally-heated showers, and private cubicles with toilet, hand basin, dryers etc. Laundry and campers kitchens, a large childrens playground, sports field, games room and television lounge. The park has CCTV and WiFi is available for a small fee. A dog walking area is provided on site. Find out more here
We stayed at this campsite for four nights at the beginning of August. We are a family of four; two adults and two children aged 3 and 6 and we all loved it!
The location is perfect! There are lots of great nearby pubs, I would especially recommend The White Hart which is a 10 minute walk from the site. There is also a steam railway, a 200 metre walk. This runs along the edge of the campsite and it is lovely to see all of the children running to wave at the train from the main field. The railway is slightly expensive, however if you make a whole day of it, it is definitely worth it. The river is a 400 metre walk, where you can hire rowing boats/kayaks etc and there is a small ferry that takes you to Bodiam Castle and back. We hired a rowing boat for the four of us which was £12 per hour. It was great fun although a bit stressful with two young children but I would advise you gave it a go.
As we arrived we were greeted by the campsite owner and her daughter. They were a great first impression of the campsite. We were shown where everything was and the owner even cycled up on her push bike and showed us where to pitch.
The campsite was beautiful. We stayed in a tent on pitch 35; a non electric pitch. This was on the main field, there are also woodland alcove pitches which looked great too. We will hope to try these out another time. The pitch was extremely spacious and had a great view of the valley. The children loved to play in the middle of the field, which is kept empty and enjoyed playing in the play area. Both of my children made lots of friends, which was nice for them.
We also hired a fire pit which was £20 for the whole of our stay, this came with a bag of logs, a firelighter and some kindling. This was delivered by the warden, who also came around every evening delivering extra logs.
The facilities were a couple of minutes away from our pitch and there was a portaloo on the field, which was handy for toilet needs at night! The toilets, showers and washing up facilities were always clean and were kept in good condition. There were two showers and three toilets for the ladies and the same for the men. There were also two family rooms which had a toilet, sink and a shower which was a godsend for young children and parents.
I would definitely recommend this site and will be returning in the near future.
Just returned from here after our second visit, as before we found the management without fault, yes as some reviews before have said there can be a sewerage smell some times but its not that bad, and the cockerel makes you wish for coq au vin every meal but 'its the countryside'.
Now that's out of the way, the views are beautiful (especially if you like steam trains) the pitches are generous to say the least, 1 of the reasons we keep going back, nearly everyone is very friendly and the 'townie faux campers' don't stay long they are too afraid of the rabbits which hop and sunbathe on the paths and open spaces on and off through the day, all in all this wonderful site comes very highly recommended from us.
What a fantastic site for our bank holiday break. We had a pitch in the wooded area and loved it, very secluded and sheltered but still got the sun all day and into the evening. Owners and staff were all very friendly and polite, I was very impressed with the communication and thoughtfulness of Jackie when she moved us from our original pitch as we would have been in the middle of a big family group. We liked the big open field – lots of space and sky and fresh air. Firepits are a great idea and good value – we particularly like these, as at another site we’ve used where fires are permissible on the ground, your pitch may end up with a firepit in the middle of where you want to put the tent and so you’d be a little bit limited. Firepits give you great flexibility to set up camp exactly how you want to. Facilities on this site are basic but good, with lots of hot water in the showers and kept very clean/stocked with loo roll and soap etc. Lots of info in reception and in the little caravan set up as a tourist info point. We didn’t use the washers/dryers but these looked well maintained. The campers fridge/freezer at the wooded pitches end of the field was a nice touch and very useful. Our only issue would be that the portaloo seemed to be out of commission for our second and third nights – not sure what went wrong and a minor issue really – the main loo block isn’t exactly miles away and I didn’t mind the starlit walk across at 3am! A nice area, short walk to a good local pub in Newenden and an easy drive from lots of other good places. The Indian restaurant just next door is superb. We’ll definitely be back – really happy to have found this little gem. Fabulous value too.
This is a lovely basic site, just as we like it. It was our third visit to this site. As always, we had a great time. It remains a simple way to enjoy the great outdoors. The middle of the field is always left free of tents, so you get that feeling of space/ expanse. Children are able to play in the middle and when the steam trains go passed directly ajoining the field, all the children make a beeline down (railway children style) to wave at the staff and passengers :)
We have seen improvements to the facilities and as always if something is not quite right, all you have to do is ask and the staff and owner are prompt and courteous. Most of the time the 'not quite right' has been due to inconsiderate campers, not being respectful or considerate of the premises.
A place we will return to often. We also met others who we have seen in previous years - enough said!
What a lovely 10-day stay we had at Rother Valley C&C site.
Upon arrival we were met with welcoming and helpful staff who provided the necessary site guidance and information.
Hiring a fire-pit added to our relaxing evenings.
A spacious layout of the tents added to a sense of privacy, for us and for others when we played our radio at low volume.
A cockerel in a very nearby field began crowing each morning from around 4. 30am, but generally we slept over it - a minor grump, but hey that's nature, and would not have affected everyone.
There was some heavy rain and blustery winds from the remnants of Hurricane 'Bertha' but the ground did not swamp and was good for pegging the tent.
The steam train was a lovely feature of our stay and a 'Rover' ticket which enables travellers to go back and forth until the last train (best to start early and make a day of it as this is around 4. 30pm (ish).
We highly recommend the Indian restaurant based at the site entrance, which provides take-away meals - gorgeous!
Plenty of interesting/tourist places to visit in the area - we were never bored.
A couple of downside points in that:
1. The washing machine was broken for most of our stay, and was to be repaired on the day we left (a day earlier than planned) - when staying for 10 days, a laundry facility is high on our search requirements list.
2. There was a fowl intermittent drains smell in-around the dish-washing/showers/toilet area, on almost every visit to wash up, and was commented on by several others. This did not affect the camping area however, it is an issue needing attention.
Overall - Rother Valley provided what we mainly required - a relaxing, get-away-from-it-all stay, and we would recommend it and return again.
