A superb site. The staff were really friendly and helpful. There was plenty of space around the pitches, and the whole site gave you a sense of space. Effort has been made to make it feel like a natural and relaxing place, and the location is central for some good days out, or if you feel energetic, plenty of walking. Also it seems to be run with an attitude of common sense rules.

The only bits that let it down for me were the shower facilities. They were really only a 4 out of 10 for me, the shower heaters (although they looked quite new) were totally random whether you got hot or cold water, and altogether a bit too small and tatty for the size of site. Also, with no shops within walking distance, perhaps a slightly better stocked on-site shop.

But we'd definitely go back, and I'd definitely recommend it for all age groups.

What a gorgeous campsite. Had all sorts of useful things - a small shop (only basics, but did have ice-creams, very handy), a fridge and a freezer with plenty of room for campers to use, plenty of toilets and showers including 2 family rooms with toilet and shower which were helpful for cleaning and dressing little ones.

Tents had lots of room, spaced on generous pitches all round the outside of the field with lots of space to play ball games in the middle. Small but perfectly formed play area for the children, and I think we had the best pitches which were about 50m away, far enough away for them to have space and fun without us, close enough to keep an eye.

They let you have campfires, which is a must for us. Although I did have a nasty moment on the first day when they were checking who had loan of which firepit and I thought we weren't going to get one. I might phone them and reserve one in advance when we go back another time. They also give you a start-up pack of logs, and sell more for reasonable prices.

And the steam train went past a couple of times a day just by the campsite - by our pitches, in fact. I said we had the best pitches, didn't I?

Very friendly and helpful wardens who did a quick walk round the site in the evening, stopped to say hello and check we were ok.

Also very well-positioned, lots of nice things to do nearby. And very reasonably priced.

If I were going to be really picky, I might say that the washing facilities could have been a touch shinier, but then bathrooms always get wet and grubby fast when it's raining and people tramp grass in everywhere.

We will definitely be back next year.

Just returned from a wonderful stay here for the Bank Holiday where we camped as a group of 5 pitches - groups are made very welcome and the hiring of a fire pit was wonderful for the cooler evenings and some marshmallow toasting. Lovely to chat with the wardens on their evening rounds too, nice touch.

Would strongly recommend this clean and friendly family-run site for anyone with children - we were based in the main field - arranged in a large circle around a central open space giving plenty of freedom for running around and kite-flying/ball games that did not interfer with the pitches. The adventure playground was at the opposite end but visible enough from the pitches to give our 5/6/7 years olds the independance they craved whilst still remaining safe. The campsite also has a 'woodland walk' around the back of the field which ours explored both during the day and night with torches.

There were also some pitches in secluded alcoves, behind the main field.

Clean facilities though remember your 20p collection for the showers - and only insert the next after the first has finished! 2 showers with thoughtful baskets for toiletries in the ladies (imagine same in the mens) and 2 family rooms also which contain a toilet, sink and shower. Clean and I always had hot water though at peak times that was not guaranteed. Washing up facilities also good.

Nearby there seems plenty to do:

- drive to Camber Sands (maybe 20 mins away) for an afternoon on the dunes and sandy beach (think we used the central car park on Old Lydd Road as had access directly onto the beach)

- take the steam train (station 3 mins walk from the site entrance) to Tenterden and then back towards Bodium Castle - this route was recommended by the wardens to maximise time at each end, in line with the train times.

- picnic just behind Tenterden High Street in the big park with swings/slides etc - buy your picnic from the supermarket next door

- visit the Toy/pedal cart museum and tea shop across the road from the site(took the kids in there but only lasted about 30 mins as obviously most of it is behind glass. Admission was £5 for adults and £3 for kids - we went near the end of the day with 4 children so she charged us half price for them which was nice)

- walk to the White Hart pub for a nice friendly welcome, good-looking food and a great garden for the kids

- shop at a large independent supermarket - Jempsons at Peasmarsh - about 10 mins drive from the site

We hope to return again soon!

10 out of 10, lovely campsite just how a campsite should be. Clean, well looked after value for money. Owner and wardens are really nice people. Camped in the woods and as they were not busy they run us an extension lead for our electric. It was so relaxing, we booked three days but decided to stay another day we didn't want to leave. We had a nice walk along the river bank, had a look in the pedal car museum across the road, which was brilliant. You can go to bodiam castle by boat just up the road or bus, bus stop just outside the campsite or steam train right next door to the camp site. Its really good for us cos once we've parked and put the awning up that's were the camper stays We will definitely be going again. The pub up the road looks ok we will give it a try next time. THANKS will be back soon

Just returned from our third visit to this site, and a great time was had by all. This time we took along the rest of the family and they loved it too. The site field is well kept, grass for pitches is kept short and the centre part is kept clear for playing. The layout is great with a portaloo at the top of the field for those midnight dashes! We loved having a firepit, great to gather round of an evening and chill out with. Wardens are fantastic and so accommodating we had 2 EHU pitches and 1 regular and they put us close together. They are very friendly and it was nice to see them on their evening rounds!

The showers and toilets were always clean as was the whole of the campsite actually. Showers are 20p for about 4 minutes which is plenty and they were always hot. We made use of the freezer to refreeze our iceblocks too.

Great location, lovely views and nice quiet family site. Lovely to see the steam trains go by as so close but they do not disturb you as they run daytime only. Must also sing praises for the Indian restaurant nextdoor, we all enjoyed the delicious food. There is a fish and chip shop couple of minutes drive into Northiam along with a Spar shop for extra bits and bobs they don't have in the site shop. Cannot wait for our next trip(s)!

Fantastic - what a beautiful site, what a friendly owner

Lovely views, well kept site, clean showers - 20p for 4 minutes - but don't do what hubby did and put 3 x 20p in in one go as you will still only get 4 minutes - wait till the shower stops

Lovely little shop (hut?) selling ice creams and a few limited basics

Access to site is very very tight

Site directly behind a wonderful Indian restaurant / takeaway

Nice little steam railway walking distance and lovely to hear the steam trains chuffing up and down blowing their whistles

Pretty little woodland area with a (short) walk

Am hoping we will return again soon to this site

We have recently returned from a 5 day break. We chose this one because of the camping around the outside and playing area in the centre. A small site with pitches off the main area in a secluded wooded area.

It is situated along side the steam railway track which the boys enjoyed. Initially we were concerned but after checking it out, it was fenced off and no access from the camp site. The small play park was adequate for a small number of children but could do with expanding a little. Though the boys spent most of their time there! Watched by us from the other side of the field.

The toilet block was situated outside of the camping area with ladies, gents and family toilet/shower rooms. Disappointed with the family showers, although a good size. As advertised they had been 'professionally' tiled, but when we entered we had to wade through someone elses shower water as the floor sloped away from the drainage hole behind the toilet. We swept the water away as best as possible with the broom that was in there. But if people don't brush it away then you are 'paddling'. The boys showered in their shoes! The 20p cost was for 4mins which was plenty of time to shower both boys. Plenty of time for an adult and quite powerful too.

The portable loo which was situated at the edge of the main field was basically a 'potty' in a plastic shed. The door was left open mostly so the light could be used to light up that area.

The owners worked hard each day. The bins were emptied daily and the play park was repaired whilst we were there. She was constantly riding her bike around and cutting grass. Although we felt there were some negatives we would probably return as the boys had a brill time, which in turn gave us a relaxing break.

Lovely campsite! We stayed for 3 nights in mid August. Jackie was very good in fitting us in when they were almost full and got us together with our friends and hooked up to electric.

We stayed 3 nights in one of alcoves in the woods. Alcoves are lovely - different sizes - some larger and more open than others.

It's quiet (except for the kids playing!).

Facilities are good - not many toilets and showers but never queued and they were cleaned regularly and hot water always available in showers.

Good pub nearby over the railway, just a 5 minute walk - good food and friendly staff.

Also rowing boats for hire close by - didn't do this but it looked lovely with a cafe and garden as well.

Would definitely recommend this campsite - lovely spot and friendly staff.

Have just returned from a one night stay at rother valley. Arrived after lunch on a Saturday and was warmly greeted by the owner after ringing the bell. Was given instructions and a booklet explaining where everything is and then shown to our pitch.

The pitches are mainly in a circle round the outside of a large field ( with a few pitches secluded in a section for more privacy)

Our pitch was right next to the children's play area which was adequate for our 3 and 5 year old ( plus there is a sand pit). We had the steam train running by us every hour which the kids loved ( as did the hubbie)

Our only issue with out pitch was being next to the play area there was some older kids who liked to bully the little ones and with no parents supervising them we were constantly having to warn the big kids to play fair, plus it was noisy with the older kids after our children had gone to bed at 9pm. But this is a issue of the ppl camping with their kids and not supervising them and not of the campsite

There is also a lovely woodland trail which our boys loved. We made friends with the 2 family's next door and took turns in taking each others kids for woodland walks and rabbit hunting.

We have stayed in very basic camps and festivals before so for us the toilet facilities were brilliant. Ok there is not a lot of toilets (2 and 2 showers in the ladys) but even with the site full we never queued. They were clean, well stocked and smelt fresh. I cant comment on showers as we did not use. Site was very clean, owners and staff very friendly and bins always emptied. Washing up facilities were fine and plenty of free hot water. Will return for sure

Our first camping trip to Rother Valley, used the 'AA' route finder to get there and still managed to drive straight pass the camp because we could barely see the sign. Arrived at camp and rang bell twice to be heard (but this was probably down to heavy rain fall) Jackie then came and she is very pleasant indeed, gave us a map of where our reserved pitch was - we choose a woodland secluded pitch - due to the rain the field was obviously boggy but there were mats laid down and later bark chippings. Drove across the large field, with only pitches around the out-skirts so children could play/fly kites/run in the middle. At the further end was the woodland pitches, each pitch separated by trees/bushes on three sides. There is a portaloo at the entrance of the woodland area for midnight dashes, I personally didn't use it but husband and youngest son did and both said it smelt of wee on the first night, but then son said the whole loo was changed the next day. That night it was lovely and peaceful, probably due to the fact there was no one else nearby (they were all out on the main field).

Second night there was a bit of let down, in came a group of youngsters, aged in their 20's(around 8 of them) who were pitched about 20 feet away who decided at around 7pm to play loud bassy music (they seem to turn it down when a warden drove round, then turn it back up again) sadly they didn't seem to follow the rule of 'no loud music' and quietness after 11pm as they were still going well pass midnight - I go camping for peace and quiet if I wanted music I would go to a music festival. Sadly you cannot pick your other campers.

Near the entrance of the campsite is situated the loos, showers and washing up facilities. Every time I used these toilets they were always clean and smelt fine (a few cobwebs but nothing major). There are two loos and two showers in the gents part and two loos and two showers in the ladies and further down (pass the washing up area) there is two 'family' shower/toilet rooms.
