Stayed here last August with two other families with young children. We had a fab camping experience. The site is clean, spacious and friendly. We had pitches 21 & 22 in the Wooded Area and our children loved running through the woodland path to the children's play area. There is plenty to do in the area. We caught a boat from Bodiam Boating Station to Bodiam Castle and had a really fun day out, we had lunch at The Castle Pub. We loved having a fire at night and toasting marshmallows. There is also an excellent curry house right outside the campsite! Camber Sands is close by too.
Toilet area smells because it's right next door to the cess put. Basic facilities on site. But who cares, it's camping!
This is a super little campsite with friendly atmosphere. Ideal for kids and dogs. Lovely views from our tent overlooking valley across huge field with lots of play space and play area for kids. Gorgeous wooded area to explore. Firepits are available for hire which adds to the camping experience. There are plenty of water points and bins. The steam railway running along the edge of the campsite is a real bonus. It is five minutes walk from an amazing range of things to do: the station to catch a steam train; Bodiam Boating station where you can hire boats or catch a ferry or use their super cafe; the Model car and Toy Museum plus fantastic cafe and amazing staff; walks along the river bank; and Northiam village with pubs and shops including a calor gas store. I would have been happy to give the campsite 10/10 but the cleanliness of the toilet facilities really let it down. They should be cleaned twice a day and cleaned properly. It was not a pleasant experience to use them and the stench from the chemical waste was nauseating. Also the strange encampment of closely grouped static caravans made one feel a little bit unnerved. I feel mean being critical because otherwise this really was a lovely campsite and I would go back there.
Having stayed here a few times over the past 10 years, it's definitely improved under new ownership. The staff are friendly and helpful, the facilities are cleaner, and being able to hire a fire basket is a great idea.
It's in a lovely location, pretty peaceful apart from some noise from the main road, and great night skies when it's clear. Lots to do near by, canoe hire down the road is good and a trips to Dungeness, Rye and Rye Harbour well worth while.
Like other reviewers, I have sometimes noticed a bad smell of drains around the washing up area, but this is a long way from where I camped, and how much of your time on holiday do you spend in the loo or doing the washing up.
The worst aspect of my stay last August Bank Holiday was a large group of families on the main field who were drinking and noisy late into the night and left their part of the field looking like the aftermath of Glastonbury. At the risk of coming on all Victor Meldrew, this seems an increasing issue on camp sites, where people seem to think they can have their own private party in public. On another occasion I complained to someone about the same issue, only to be told 'What do you expect, it's camping', as if I was unreasonable to expect a decent night's sleep on holiday. If I want to stay up all night raving, I'll go to a club or a festival. In fact I had this experience 3 times last year on different sites, all well reviewed and claiming to be family friendly and with rules about noise. Rant over.
A very pleasant site comprising of a large field (with play area) and a small wooded section. We were in the latter, which boasted large individual pitches. The big field was home to family groups and looked very spacious thanks to units being placed only around the perimeter. The valley setting is quite picturesque.
Unlike the previous review, our two nights were perfectly tranquil. It was good to wake up in the morning to the cooing of wood pigeons.
Within half a mile is a good pub with beer garden: The White Hart. In the other direction, in Northiam village, are a chippy, a Spar, a Jempsons Local store and a superb bakery/cafe. Try their quiches! Literally on the doorstep is an Indian restaurant, which I didn't sample. Rye, Hastings and Tenterden are just three of the nearby towns worth a visit.
The site fees seemed a bit expensive: £19 per night for one person and a dog without electricity. However it's 2 or 3 years since I went camping so maybe I am out of touch. There was a plumbing issue while we were there and the bins were sometimes overflowing.
Minor gripes though and I will be returning at some time in the future.
Spent two nights last weekend with friends in their van and others in a tent. The access is good, and the site is very well cared for, as are the loos and showers. Not brand new, but clean and painted. There is a huge field area, with some seasonals, but lots of room for kids to play in the middle (and leave us alone:). There was a large group who, as usual it seems, went well over the 11. 00 noise curfew, but that seems to be the norm these days. Tucked away in the trees are some very nice tent pitches, and there are two yurts to hire. The Kent & Sussex Railway passes close by so you can see proper 'chuff chuffs'! At the entrance to the site is a fantastic Indian restaurant where we all ate on the first night. The second night we BBQ'd. There is also a very nice pub a few minutes walk away. However, the pathway is very overgrown, and the road is narrow. The management were friendly and helpful.
Just 15 minutes from Ashford and 25 minutes from fabulous beaches, you'll be ideally placed for exploring the Garden of England. The park is divided into a family area, that is close to the play parks, the sports field and the games room, and a peaceful adult-only area in The Meadows, that is ideal for couples. A range of grass and hardstanding pitches, fully serviced or non electric, catering for all sized of tents and caravans.
On both areas you will enjoy five-star, centrally-heated showers, and private cubicles with toilet, hand basin, dryers etc. Laundry and campers kitchens, a large childrens playground, sports field, games room and television lounge. The park has CCTV and WiFi is available for a small fee. A dog walking area is provided on site. Find out more here
Great site, friendly management and loads of space. Just spent the weekend in the woodland area with another family. Although the site was busy, there was plenty of space, especially in the large camping field.
The children enjoyed the play area, woodland trail and the big area to play football and tag. We enjoyed the boat trip to Bodiam and the Kent and East Sussex railway, which trundles past the site.
Plenty of toilets, showers and washing up area. The site also has a free fridge/freezer and washing machines (we didn't use). There are no fires, except for a fire pit. This can be hired along with wood and firelighters. The only minor negative was the long walk from the wooded area to the toilets. The portaloo near the area was out of use all weekend
There was NO smell at the site! Just great camping
We enjoyed 5 beautiful sunny days here and the views were fantastic. Our welcome from the owner was very nice & we were efficiently shown the facilities available. As enthusiasts of steam railways, it was great to see the trains making their way adjacent to the campsite boundary and to take the short walk along the road to Northiam Station to take a ride upon them (you need to check the Kent & East Sussex Railway timetable for operating schedule). The toilets and showers were all very clean and the information hut contained a wealth of information. The pub approx half mile away was excellent with great food though walking there is hampered by the very overgrown footpath and the narrow road doesn't have a footpath! A very nice campsite though and we shall return.
Just returned from a sunny week at Rother Valley. Can't express enough how great this site is. Extra large pitches. Friendly, helpful staff - especially John who will always make you laugh! Great facilities and the fire pits at night make for a wonderful evening. Great value and to be thoroughly recommended.
We were greeted by a very helpful team at reception who showed us to our pitch. The pitch was HUGE, in fact they all are! Loads of open space and fantastic views across the fields. There is also a little cul de sac of woodland pitches which looked so peaceful. Dog loved the woodland walk pathway too.
Facilities great - lots of washups, ample clean toilets with loo roll, handy portaloo on other side of field and local ice cream sold in shop.
The kids loved the space, the wigwam and the woods to play in - the playground was also a big hit and very well maintained. Kids soon made friends on this friendly site. Oh and to top it off for the kids, regular steam trains chugging past tooting at the waving kids (and grown up kids?!) how cool is that.
For the adults lots of open space, peace and tranquility with lots of birdsong and a few cuckoos, followed by owls and bats in the evening. We were in walking distance to a great little pub (white hart) where we had a good meal, but we're also hit by the amazing smell of a curry coming from the restaurant in front of the campsite ( on the list for next visit!).
Local spar was great and the polite man even carried my bag to the car! Loads to do, great walks boat trips steam train, bodiam castle, rye, camber sands, tenter den, vineyards galore - def returning soon.
We stayed for 3 nights in the half term. Friendly welcome, it was nice to be able to choose pitch number when booking. Had a huge pitch which was great, but because it rained a lot previously the ground was very muddy right outside our tent. ( not very good drainage), but we did borrow a rubber mat from owners which was very handy. It was fab to be able to hire a fire pit, which was very reasonable, but really needed to include kindling, as firelighters and logs did not work very well.
As previous review states there was a disgusting sewerage smell by the toilets and washing up area, which made me feel quite sick. And portaloo was not open which was a bit annoying as quite a trek to the toilet block. Not enough toilets and showers. But this didn't effect us too much.
All in all we had an enjoyable stay.
Management response: Thank you so much for the feedback on our park. We take all comments seriously and we refer to the comments regarding the sewerage smell. This was a short term problem in the local vicinity which we investigated thoroughly and could not find a cause on our Site. It has not re-occurred since.
We look forward to welcoming you back to our park in the future.
