Booked last minute to enjoy the kids half term down in Kent and East Sussex. We arrived to a warm welcome and were guided to our pitch. We felt a little cramped on the pitch, whilst long they weren't very wide for a tent and dining tent, there was literally half a metre between us and our neighbours on either side, luckily they were both fantastic and we got on well!
The views were stunning and the local hostelry, the White Hart, fantastic.
The kids loved the woods, but said they would like more space around the tent to play. There was, unfortunately, an overpowering smell of sewage on the site for three of our days, which made washing up and using the showers unpleasant. The tap behind our pitch was broken for two days and the nearby portaloo out of action the whole week.
The area is brilliant, the team at the site friendly, but we are unlikely to stay again because of the small pitch and smell.
Management response: Thank you so much for the feedback on our park. We take all comments seriously and we refer to the comments regarding the sewerage smell. This was a short term problem in the local vicinity which we investigated thoroughly and could not find a cause on our Site. It has not re-occurred since.
We look forward to welcoming you back to our park in the future.
When we arrived at the site we were welcomed with big smiles. The grandchildren were so excited to see such a big open space for them to play in, no cramped pitches here. They had a playground with a tractor they could climb on. A climbing frame with a slide and all within view of the steam train trundling past every hour or so.
The toilets showers and washing up area was clean and tidy.
Our fire pit even arrived by wheelbarrow pushed by a young girl.
Had a great week here with great friends and family taking up 4 pitches which gave us plenty of space for the 3 tents a caravan and 4 cars. A very nice priced quiet site with friendly staff and campers. Great evenings sat around the fire pit with friends and a drink or two. Clean toilets and 20 pence gives approx. 4 minutes in the nice hot showers which I found adequate. There is a well stocked early till late shop just down the road. The kids enjoyed the play area on site and bruce the dog liked the woodland walk and it was good to have dog poop bins at each end of the walk. Will definitely go again in fact my better half wanted to stay another week. Happy camping
We arrived at Rother Valley on 26/08/13 & enjoyed a four night stay. I booked our pitch months ago by email & the booking process was very easy.
Upon our arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the management & shown to our pitch. The pitch was spacious & not in the slightest over looking other campers. We had our fire pit delivered & the first lot of logs, kindling & firefighters were included. Logs were only £3 there after which was a great price for the generous amount and delivery to the pitch.
The staff in the reception were friendly, helpful & welcoming- One had a feeling of having known them for years, not hours. It was great to have a fridge freezer to use. The toilet block was cleaned daily & well presented, with plenty of loos even at busy times. (2 in the ladies, 2 toilets and 2 urinals in the gents, another 2 3m up the drive & the 2 family shower blocks). The showers were always warm & although 20p for 4 mins we never had to spend over 40p, which when water, gas & electricity rates are taken into consideration is really reasonable. Washing up facilities were great, with plenty of sinks & drainers to avoid gridlock. My only grumble would be that shower/toilet & washing up facilities are directly next to the chemical toilet disposal which did get rather pongy at times. The children's play area was enjoyed by many although my child was too old. This didn't matter though, as there was plenty if space for games on the field & trails through the adjoining woodland. It was a reassuringly safe environment for my child to roam & practice independence.
Rother Valley is a great base for a variety of day trips, 15 minutes from the beautiful Rye, only 25 mins from the amazing dunes of Camber Sands, & 50 mins from the breathtaking Port Lympe Wild Animal Park. Also within easy reach are Dungeoness Power Station (although, if you want a tour you must book at least 3 weeks in advance through their website), steam trains run directly next door to the site & there is boating facilities just a stones throw away on the River Rother.
All in all a wonderful time was had by all. I would recommend Rother Valley campsite to anyone who wants an easy going, family friendly, peaceful camping experience. We will definitely return for our next adventure.
Lovely site with a great family atmosphere. The couple who run the site are lovely, small shop on site selling basics.
Views across the fields are lovely, we had pitch 40 near the playground but would probably choose a 'woodland' pitch next time, the small clearings between the trees looked great.
We visited Tenterden and Camber Sands, both very nice (Camber sands late in the day as the weather was very hot)
Another poster mentioned a swing being broken. We saw this happen and also saw the site warden mend it very quickly. We thought the play area was well kept. Freezer for ice blocks is very handy.
Only thing that I would change are the showers and toilets, they could seriously do with a re-fit. The showers are temperamental and tend to suddenly go really hot, tiles are cracked and everything is very tired and old. Although the one good point is that they are cleaned very regularly.
And on a personal note, wifi would be fantastic as there is absolutely no 3g. Perhaps I should leave my phone alone really.
With a few quid spent on the shower block this site could be pretty much faultless!
Just 15 minutes from Ashford and 25 minutes from fabulous beaches, you'll be ideally placed for exploring the Garden of England. The park is divided into a family area, that is close to the play parks, the sports field and the games room, and a peaceful adult-only area in The Meadows, that is ideal for couples. A range of grass and hardstanding pitches, fully serviced or non electric, catering for all sized of tents and caravans.
On both areas you will enjoy five-star, centrally-heated showers, and private cubicles with toilet, hand basin, dryers etc. Laundry and campers kitchens, a large childrens playground, sports field, games room and television lounge. The park has CCTV and WiFi is available for a small fee. A dog walking area is provided on site. Find out more here
Booked one of the secluded pitches in the wooded area last minute. Had a lovely pitch surrounded by trees and was able to pitch up our tent to give us a nice private area. Our pitch was so ideal shade in morning then sun throughout the afternoon and evening. We hired a firepit which us and the kids enjoyed toasting marshmallows. The little shop was ok not much stock to be honest so you will need to take most with you but the ice creams are extremely reasonable 50-80p for magnums etc great stuff esp on a hot weekend. The owners were so friendly and couldn't do enough for us even leant us some cooking oil as we forgot ours (there's always something) lol. Toilets, showers although quite a walk from our pitch were dated but still clean which is more important to me. Never had to queue. The steam train going past was excellent for the kids they got really excited when the heard the first peep and used to run through the wooded walk to go and wave to it chugging past. Play area was ok had a slide little play house and a sand pit which didn't have any sand in, but presumably because not high season? Overall I would stay at this site again.
Had a fantastic 2 night stay on a very hot weekend. Shown to the pitch on arrival and actually offered the pitch next door as the warden thought the allocated one may have been a bit small for our folding camper, so had plenty of room with the car parked next to us.
Took advantage of the location to go on the Kent & East Sussex railway to Tenterden and Bodium Castle, well worth a visit.
Toilet facilities a little trek from the top end of the site, but we had own in the camper for caught short youngsters.
Plenty of dogs on site while we were there but the warden was very vigilant in making sure they were kept on leads during his rounds, even an evening walk round to have a little chat with everyone.
Great having the firepits to hire, kids had fun with marshmallows and adults could enjoy the evening a little later with the warmth.
Play area could do with a little TLC as one of the swings broke while we were there, so tended to keep the children away to be safe, but plenty of outside space to run around and bike ride in.
Stayed for a weekend away with the kids. Lovely views across the campsite especially at sunset as the light shines through the beautiful long grass which is left uncut in the middle of the field. It seemed most of the campers brought bunting, and/or lots of fairy lights- which looked lovely at night. Reminiscent of a music festival especially with the live band playing at a nearby pub ( on the Saturday night ). Campfires are allowed and positively encouraged. Clean covered washing up facilities and plenty of piping hot water. Other campers were in my opinion mainly families or groups of friends with kids. Kids had a great big field yo run about in, play cricket, badminton, frisby etc as well as a wooden playground. Be aware the entrance to the campsite is a sharp turn off the road into the driveway and round the back of an Indian restaurant which opens out into a large field. Lots to see and do in the area including the steam train which passes the bottom of the camping field, and a boat trip along the river Rother. Also nearby is Bodiam castle and it's not far to the coast.
The only negatives for us were that the site also has an area for occupiers of permanent caravans and another area for caravan storage. Although they seemed to be separate from the touring/tent field, for me it did give the site a different feel from a site that is just for holiday campers. Also the toilets although okay in terms of cleanliness could in my opinion do with a revamp, the showers are small, with 20p charge, with no wooden drying mat to stand on. The cubicle floor was flooded after a shower- not too appealing when its muddy and got grass in it. Finally the smell of drains is very strong around the toilet area.
The best bit for us was sitting around the campfire, with an amazing amount of stars overhead, in a field of campers sporting twinkling fairylights round their tents and awnings.
Just come back from a few nights stay here and I must say it was a lovely campsite (especially for the price!)
We were given a pitch (non EHU) at the back of the field which was perfect for us. The pitches are fairly generous. We could pitch our Iccy 600 with the car next to it easily although other pitches are different in size. You can hire fire pits from the site at a very reasonable price and this also includes your first set of logs and firelighters.
There's 2 family shower rooms for use and then 2 individual toilets in the ladies along with 2 more shower cubicles (im guessing this is the same in the blokes) Toilets were cleaned daily.
There are 3 undercover washing up sinks with plenty of hot water although these are located right near the chemical disposal & cesspit (covered) so occasionally you do get a wiff of that!
We didn't do much in the surrounding area however you aren't far from beaches etc and the steam trains run by the site which is nice for the kids.
There is also a small play area, picnic tables, herb garden & fridge/freezer for campers. The staff are very friendly and even show you to your pitch. They often come around on a busy evening to make sure everything is ok.
There are some static and permanent caravans on site but that didn't bother us too much.
Overall we had a great stay, in fact we extended it for 1 day as the weather was so lovely. I'm sure we'll be returning soon
Stayed 2 nights here in the woodland pitches at the back of the camping field. Great site for family's, lots of space and a children's play area. The woodland pitches were separate from the main field and perfect for those wanting a quieter break (like us).
Facilities were not too bad but definitely could do with updating, mens and womens toilets/showers, plus a little portaloo near the woods but this is only open after dark for 'midnight emergencies'.
Owners were friendly, came around on our first night to check we were ok and didn't need anything.
Fire pit hire was cheap which is a bonus.
The location is great, on the outskirts of Northiam with the old steam Railway running behind it (not obtrusive as the latest we heard it was around 6pm).
Overall would definitely recommend this site.
