The staff was very friendly. We were the only campers, because of the weather was very wet.

The field was large as so were the pitches, with beautiful views. There is a lot to see and to do. But nevertheless

We will not come back to this site again. We prefer a tiled toilet block. Next to the toilet block are caravans with, as far as I could see, people who works in the surrounding.

Every morning when I entered the toilet block it smells to smoking cigarettes.

I prefer a campsite with campers only

But when a larger newer toilet block should have been in the middle of the camping field, separate from the little field of the permanent workmen, it would be different. In that case I might come back.

I would not recommend this site to other people

I have just returned from a two week camping trip at the gorgeous Rother Valley Caravan Park, with my two daughters aged 5 and 6, making it our third return visit to the site!

Once again all the staff were extremely welcoming and friendly, and always around if you needed them. Day or night.

The site is set in a beautiful location overlooking Rother Valley, it is peaceful and the views are stunning for miles around.

The generously sized pitches are set around the perimeter of the large field, so no one camps in front of you and spoils the view!

With no pitches in the centre of the field, it leaves the area free for games and frantic dashes to wave at the steam train that runs along the bottom of the site, as a 'toot toot' and puffs of steam indicate the train is leaving Northiam station close by! Great to watch!

There is also a wooded area with secluded pitches which are great if you really want to get away from it all! A portable loo set in a well lit log style cabin is at the entrance to the woods and proved invaluable for those little emergencies!

A newly added woodland trail proved a winner with the kids, (and me!), as we explored the woods and had fun spotting Jackies 'woodland friends' along the way!

The newly decorated toilet and shower block are fresh, warm and always kept clean with an abundance of soft loo rolls, (not the cheap kind!) and look great with the matching accessories, shelves, stools, wall mounted hairdryer and numerous hooks for hanging your clothes and towels whilst you shower!

The family shower rooms are an asset to the site and provide shower, sink and a loo all in the same spacious room, so you can shower together with your little ones and not have to worry about them wandering off while your covered in bubbles and searching for the towel!

A hot shower, just 20p, was great after an evening sitting around the campfire toasting marshmallows!

The covered outside washing up area was kept clean and the kids loved helping to do the washing up after meals.

There is also a communal rotary washing line and fridge freezers for campers to use!

A small camp shop next to reception, offers essential basics, ice lollies in the summer and even bags of ice for that tipple outside your tent!

The children's play area, sand table and picnic bench can be found in the lower part of the field and is great for the little ones to play, but always within view of the tent!

Saturday turned out to be eventful when we lost power to the field!. So no electrical supply was available. This did not dampen our spirits, as we got down to basics and did some 'proper camping'!

Boiling the tin kettle and sizzling sausages on the campfire was an adventure and great fun! As was bedtime, when we all snuggled down under our blankets and quilts with torches and lanterns!

All snug and warm, slept through till the morning! Kids loved it!

In all, this is a great site, thanks again to Jackie, Colin and all the staff for making our stay relaxing, welcoming and fun!

Can't wait to come back. See you in June, if not before!

'Lovely location, clean but basic facilities' for those who don't want to read the whole review.

One early negative was that we didn't receive a confirmation of our booking until we chased it.

This site has a lovely location with a beautiful view over the valley and is very quiet. Most of the pitches are located around the edge of a wide open field, with a few in small alcoves in the trees if you like your privacy.

Only a few (along one edge of the field) have EHU, which probably explains why the site was so quiet over an Easter weekend.

As others have commented, the entrance might be a bit tight if you are towing a big 'van, but it's right next to the Indian restaurant so hard to miss.

We turned up and were directed to our pitch with the minimum of fuss, and both Jackie and Colin were friendly and welcoming.

The Indian restaurant at the entrance is superb - ask at reception for a 2-for-1 main course voucher to save a few quid off your bill. The White Hart pub is about 10 minutes brisk walk - we found their menu a little bit limited but the food was superb if not cheap.

15-20 minutes drive into Tenterden is a good selection of pubs and a few restaurants, plus lots of country pubs if you do your research.

It's a nice location for exploring the area, with plenty to do within 40 minutes drive or so, plus some lovely walking nearby. There's a plentiful supply of tourist information leaflets in the reception caravan if you're stuck for inspiration.

I think this site is a bit let down by the facilities though. The heating in the shower block was pitiful, the cubicles very small and cramped, and poor water pressure - for 20p for a couple of minutes I expected better. You can get showered for 20p if you're quick! Also, the washing up area is outdoors (though under shelter) and missing a plug!

Not mentioned in the facilities is a fridge and freezer available if needed.

Our biggest complaint was the EHU main feed cable overheated on the Saturday night, leaving most of the units with no power for the rest of the weekend - being Easter weekend there wasn't much they could do about it. It's tempting to write this off as being 'oh well, not much they can do', but a good safe installation shouldn't have allowed this to happen, and most of the updates were word of mouth between the campers rather than coming from the site management. To be fair, they did offer to refund the extra cost of the EHU (£3/night), but it was freezing that night with no heat!

The portable loo was full to overflowing several nights with no toilet paper, and also the main toilets had no toilet paper on one occasion.

We love this campsite and I'm about to book to go back for our third visit. It's just the right size and with all the tents around the outside of the field gives loads of room to play games with the children in the middle of the field.

Jackie and her family are warm and welcoming and if you ask her something she doesn't know, she will find out for you. She walks around the pitches every evening and makes sure everything is ok.

Even when the campsite is full, we've always been able to get a nice hot shower with no problems. Of an evening we often play games with the children ( aged 15 and 10) until its dark and then sit outside and watch the stars (which are amazing there) until late. It's not noisy, people respect others. The sunset on a clear night is beautiful.

There's a shop a mile away to get basics and a tescos 15 mins away. The kebab van by the river is great and reasonably priced.

This campsite gives us everything we want from a holiday and we're going back again this year because there is so much to see and do in the area. It's fantastic for families and couples too. Jackie has lots of leaflets if you're not sure where you want to go. We would definitely recommend this campsite to anyone. We're looking forward to investigating the restaurant/bar that we believe has now opened at the entrance to the site, and seeing the steam trains again that pass by the bottom of the campsite.

This is a lovely site with one large camping field and some pitches in the woods. We were camping with four other families and, because of the size of our tents, were allocated six pitches in the woods.

We arrived after a particularly wet week and the grass was quickly turning to mud. However, the staff were keen to help and laid rubber mats and bark chippings to make it a little easier. The situation quickly improved with the return of the sun. The pitches in the woods were a little colder as they were so sheltered but on the plus side the children had a great time running through the woods and making a camp.

The field pitches will have had the benefit of the sun but it was also quite windy as it was so open so there are pros and cons to both parts of the site.

The facilities were good. As well as the usual toilet and shower block, there were also additional showers and two family rooms, all were pretty clean and adequate for the number of campers. There was also a port-a-loo at the entrance of the wooded pitches which consisted of a camping chemical toilet that was replaced on a very regular basis.

The play ground was pretty good, right on the other side of the open field. It was very close to the steam railway line but, on inspection, was very safe and you would need a very determined, thorn-proof child to get anywhere near the railway. Being able to see the trains so close was nice.

The staff were really friendly and welcoming and quick to respond to issues, even late at night.

The site is only a short drive to Bodium Castle, a National Trust location which you could also reach by the steam train or by boat along the River Rother (also a short walk from the site). It is also only a short drive to Rye, and Camber Sands is just beyond that.

Spent four nights midweek before the August bank holiday at Rother Valley with my wife and two boys (aged 6 & 3) - we had a lovely time at this fantastically located campsite.

It was very reasonably priced and the sizes of pitches were very good. Although it wasn't too busy the owners allocated pitches very sensibly, so that neighbours were spaced out away from each other where possible.

The ground was slightly sloped but considering we had torrential rain for 12 hours during our stay the drainage was very good.

The facilities were basic but adequate - three sinks to wash up, two family shower rooms as well as gents and ladies shower facilities. These were in need of updating, but were clean although the family rooms floors were always wet (a mop and bucket were provided, but it needs refitting with proper drainage) 20p in the slot gave 5 mins of controllable hot water. Campers who were furthest from the main facilities had a portaloo, which was pretty yukky, as portaloos tend to be.

There are also freezer facilities for those without electric and a small shop selling essentials and ice creams.

The site and surrounding area are brilliant, my sons loved watching the steam trains trundle pass the children's playground and there is no noticeable noise from the road.

We enjoyed a day on the steam train as well as taking in a day at Camber Sands and Rye, which is quaint and worth a visit.

There is an excellent independent supermarket on the road to Rye at Peasmarsh which has everything a camper needs. The White Hart which is 1/4 mile away in Newenden is a cracking pub, with friendly staff, real ale, reasonably priced quality home cooked food and a children's play area.

There is so much more to do in the area that we will return here again - recommended.

Lovely location views across the river valley and steam trains pass by regularly.

Play area ok for smaller kids.

Lots to do in this area, we went on the steam train the station is a minutes walk away, up the river on a cruise boat to Bodiam and to rye harbour and camber sands a huge sandy beach great for kids.

Nice village, the Spar had all we needed.

The site was fairly basic, very old but mainly clean toilet block, 20p for 4 minute shower bit annoying, the approach through pub car park and a few statics is a bit uninspiring and its a really tight fit to get a bigger caravan through, but then it opens out into a big wide field there's also some lovely tent pitches in little alcoves in the woods.

Owners were lovely always around and constantly cleaning, reassuring smell of bleach often.

We had a good break but wouldn't return as the pitches were very close together, we also like wifi on site which this one didn't have. It was good value though @ £115 for 5 nights caravan hook up and 4 of us.

My 6 year old son and I have just ome home from this site, our first weekend away camping together. We had a fantastic weekend, visited Bodiam castle by boat, very relaxing.

The welcome was very friendly and the facilities were very nice, clean and easy to find.

We stayed in one of the pitches in the glade off of the main field and this was lovely, peaceful but not too quiet. Lots of other people to talk to, and plenty of other children for my little boy to play football with.

We will definitely return, maybe we can even convince my wife to come with us.

Thanks for a lovely weekend.

I have just returned from another great weekend at this campsite. We were a group with 11 tents and had a corner of the field just for ourselves which helped the group feeling and also prevented us from disturbing others.

We held a similar event last year and I think that I appreciated the qualities that this site offers more than before. It is clean, quiet, spacious, reasonably priced, has good views, readily accessible and the team running it are very helpful and sympathetic.

Furthermore, there is just LOADS to do in the area. We love the boat trips on the River Rother, the Kent and East Sussex Railway, Bodiam Castle, Tenterden and the food at the nearby White Hart inn.

Very warm and friendly welcome from Judith and the staff.

We stayed in the alcoved wooded section of the site, which was the furthest area away from the Reception and Shower Block, but had no problem using the facilities as they have put a Portable loo (very clean and modern) next to the entrance to this area.

The pitch we were allocated was excellent. Very private due to the trees on 3 sides. The grass was in good condition and there was plenty of room for our 4 man tent with room to park and sit outside.

It was quiet when we were there. Possibly people put off by the rain which went on most weekend, so I can't judge the facilities ability to cope at busier times.

However there were 2 showers in the Ladies (not sure what was in the Gents) plus 2 family showers/bathrooms which I used. They do take 20ps and it costs me 40p for a shower and washing my hair. Not a problem. The showers are adjustable temperature and clean and tidy if not the most modern of facilities.

Lots to see and do nearby. Northiam Station on the East Sussex and Kent Railway is next door and we got a fantastic view of the steam trains going back and forth at the end of the main field.

Hastings and Rye are an easy drive away and Bodiam Castle can be reached by road, river or rail very easily and is well worth a visit.

Nearby in Northiam there is a Spar and also a fish and chip shop (which we didn't try). There is also a Burger/Kebab van just north of the site which seems to do a roaring trade.

A 15 minute drive to Tenterden brings you to a reasonably sized Tesco and on the way there is an Aquatic Centre selling some camping essentials.

Overall a very friendly ste in a lovely location ideal for exploring East Sussex and the coast. We will definitely be returning.
