Just back from a Bank Holiday weekend at Rother valley.

What can we say - just loved the site.

Jackie and her family were very accommodating. We had such a warm welcome.

The site is a really nice size - plenty of room to spread out and play (and even get our kites in the air).

There is a spectacular view across the valley and the steam train running along the bottom of the main site was an added joy! (The children loved the fact the driver blew his whistle to them). The station is a 3-minute walk. Worth a visit.

The layout of the site means that everyone had plenty of room to set up and no one was crowded out. Being able to connect the tents to the hook-ups made a huge difference. The site is not just about families and would suit couples, etc. As it is so spacious.

Wash facilities were (to be frank) slightly basic, but what more do you need? We were clean! (as were the showers, etc.) and we could wash-up readily. Good lot of bins and recycling facilities too. The fridge/freezer was really useful for storing things, recharging ice packs, etc.

The site shop had a few basic items and there was a choice of supermarkets within a 10 minute drive. There were also a good choice of places to visit. Tenterden and Rye are nearby - both really nice.

The site is relatively new, however it certainly seems well established. There are plans for future changes and new features - should be good.

We are already booked to return twice in the summer.

Stayed here at the start of the Easter holidays for a night - only a few tourers and one other tent, so I can't say what it is like when busy.

There is a little swing and climbing frame, a bit tired looking, but it kept our daughter entertained. The site combines a big open field, with some nice secluded woodland pitches (though I think it would be difficult to get a large tent in them).

Toilets were fine. The site was quiet on the saturday night, apart from the wildlife. I thought it was pretty good value for money and there is plenty to do in the area (Bodium Castle is worth a visit).

We did think about going on the steam train, but it is quite expensive (you have to buy and explorer ticket).

We arrived Friday tea-time, although there is a sign, it sort of leaps out of nowhere as its on the forecourt of a 2nd hand car dealer and a shut down pub!

Drive through these to the 'reception' a small and elderly caravan (very pretty though, surrounded by plants etc) to be met by a very friendly lady called Jackie. She told us where everything was, and basically told us to pitch where we wanted.

As we drove past the toilets/showers on our way to the main field, there was an 'odd' place on the left, which housed lots of tourers, crammed in on a complete shingle 'field', these apparently were the seasonal pitches. On the right there was another enclosure, full of caravans, which was their storage area, another facility which the site offered.

We pulled onto the main field, which was big, with pitches around the edge, some with hookups some without, but with the middle of the field left empty for games/kite flying etc. Beyond the main camping field, were smaller woodland type pitches, which offered a small amount of visual privacy. All of the grass was cut and well maintained.

Now for the toilets and showers. It was very quiet when we were there, and I didn't queue for the shower, at peak times there would be a problem. I found them damp and dingy and dated although basically clean, they could do with a good makeover to brighten them up.

The actual shower cubicle is very small, and the coin meter (20p) is outside the cubicle, in the general wash basin/toilet area. The shower is a normal domestic type affair. I'd just managed to wash my short hair, and the 20p ran out, then bearing in mind the coin meter is outside of the cubicle, you have to go outside, dripping in soap suds while trying to wrap a towel round you to put another 20p in. I did try to put 2 x 20p's in together but still only got 3 minutes. If they are going to charge, at least make sure the meters give the same amount of time, one gave 3 mins and the other gave over 5 mins. (I drew the short straw) Then to cap it off, I put the 20p in and it jammed, so had to give it a good bang, so the coin would drop! Great when you're standing there with shampoo running into your eyes!

Just outside the showers is the chemical disposal point, this area is very clean, but about 6 foot from some very elderly static vans.

Along the edge of the site runs steam trains, and the station is about a 3 minute walk.

Just up the road, beyond the steam train station are some small tea rooms with a lovely garden on the river, which is very pleasant, you can also get a ferry boat ride up to Bodiam castle or hire rowing boats. It would only be about a 10-15 minute walk from the site to the tea rooms, but unfortunately there are no footpaths on the road, so it could be a bit dangerous.

Don't let the closed down pub and 2nd hand car dealers put you off this site, once you get onto the main field it has some really lovely views and is generally well kept.

Would we go back, yes I think so, but I personally couldn't be bothered with the showers.

A simple uncrowded site with friendly owners and staff.

It's a huge field with reasonable sized pitches around the edge with some woodland camping pitches too, these were nice and secluded, however a bit dark for my liking.

There is a steam railway that passes along one edge of the field and the kids enjoyed waving at the trains, you can walk to the station from the site.

Avoid pitches 1&2 as they are situated next to a pond which seems to waft an unpleasant pong depending on wind direction.

The facilities are old, but were kept spotlessly clean whilst we were there, showers were 20p for 4 minutes.

There is a combined swing, slide and climbing frame which all the kids enjoyed.

There is a child friendly pub within walking distance that does good food.

The nearest shop is walk-able to, but there is no proper footpath most of the way and it's a busy road.

The site is under new ownership and they have started to make improvements to the appearance of the place such as planting of trees.

This is a pleasant place to stay for a couple of days and we will return.

We had a lovely short break at this campsite.

There is a main toilet block, with showers (20P) and washing up area, fridge/freezer, chemical point, and family shower rooms.

The toilets themselves and the basins were always spotless and stocked with toilet roll / hand towels, but I did feel the floors didn’t look that clean.

The washing up area had only warm water so was a little difficult to wash up in as it wasn’t really hot enough, but we only used it twice so may have been a temporary issue.

Then there is the main camping field, it’s a large space with the pitches around the edge, a small play area and a lovely view over the train line to the surrounding countryside.

After this you reach the secluding camping pitches where we stayed. It’s an area of individual pitches surrounded by trees on 3 sides, it was lovely. These pitches varied in size, but mainly for small/medium tents I would guess.

Having a private area was really nice and felt really cosy when it rained, of course the pitches were still only a metre or two apart so you could hear the campers around you but you couldn’t really see them. It was different to other camping experiences at campsites and brought me make to days of camping with the girl guides in a field somewhere, and I liked not feeling so regimented as so many other sites are.

These secluded pitches are a few minutes walk from the main toilet block, but they did have a Porto loo in a tent at the edge of the secluded area for people who were desperate in the night. This was a thoughtful idea.

The steam railway was just next door, for a ride to Tenterden, or Bodium.

The village of Northiam had all the essentials like a fish and chip shop!

I would recommend the site to anyone and would return myself.

Broadhembury Holiday Park - Ashford

Just 15 minutes from Ashford and 25 minutes from fabulous beaches, you'll be ideally placed for exploring the Garden of England. The park is divided into a family area, that is close to the play parks, the sports field and the games room, and a peaceful adult-only area in The Meadows, that is ideal for couples. A range of grass and hardstanding pitches, fully serviced or non electric, catering for all sized of tents and caravans.

On both areas you will enjoy five-star, centrally-heated showers, and private cubicles with toilet, hand basin, dryers etc. Laundry and campers kitchens, a large childrens playground, sports field, games room and television lounge. The park has CCTV and WiFi is available for a small fee. A dog walking area is provided on site. Find out more here

We spent 10 days on this site and found it to be peaceful and tranquil most of the time,in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The toilets and showers are adequate for the size of the site and even when fully booked we never had to wait for either.

There was always hot water and the fact that you need to put 20P into the showers was not a major hardship. 40p was sufficient to have a decent shower, hairwash and shave(for the women). They were kept extremely clean at all times.

The chemical waste point was clean and easily accessible unlike some sites we have been to. The owners were friendly and helpful and there are an abundance of things to do in the area. The small caravan reception at the site has tourist leaflets inside so you will always be able to find something to do.

The nearest shop is a small Spar shop which is only a mile away for your basic needs with an excellent chippy just next door and there is a Tesco in Tenterden which is a 15 minute drive.

All tents and campervans are located around the outside of the field leaving a large open space in the middle where several groups of people can play games with ease, and there is a small play area for the younger members of a family with swings and slide.

We loved this camp site as it was perfect for us and our children and will be booking again for next year as we didn't even skim the surface of the local attractions that we wish to visit. An extremely enjoyable 10 day holiday.

We had an enjoyable weekend at this peaceful campsite and will certainly return.

There are lovely views and the field is left pitch free in the middle so there is plenty of room. Caravans are pitched on one side with tents on the other side of the field and in a wooded area. The steam trains run by every so often and you can sit and watch them from picnic benches that have been placed at the front of the site. The children enjoyed the small play area which was great for their age - (under 10s)

The toilet block was small but extremely clean and there was always plenty of loo roll, soap and hand towels. The showers take 20p but the water was always hot and there was a good flow. There was plenty of hot water for washing up.

The Wardens were very helpful and there was a lot of information available on local places to visit and places to eat. We walked to the pub in Newenden which served good food.

We hope to return soon for a longer stay as there is a lot to do in the area.

What a weekend break! This site is very suited to families with children but not having children with us found this quite testing when returning to the site after a long day out.

The shower block was in need of a make over but clean and all in working order.

A car is really needed at this site for supplies as the roads don't all have footpaths.

The wardens were friendly on arrival and explained were all facilities were.

The train can also be seen from your pitch so ideal for train spotters as they are mostly old style steam trains.

Just returned from a weekend at Rother Valley and loved it. So quiet and peaceful. It was great to be able to sleep at night without being woken by loud parties, fireworks etc. Location brilliant.

Not crowded even though full, loads of space for playing games etc. Toilets impeccably clean and well stocked always. 20p coin-op showers warm and good water flow, may be a bit small for the larger camper!

Nice level pitches, trees and hedges provide shade and shelter. Booked to return in less than 4 weeks time. Owners and staff friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

The main area is a lovely tree-lined field for a mix of tents and campervans. The pitches were spacious and there was a large area in the middle for children to play, dogs to walk, etc.

There were easy to use facilities for chemical disposal and washing up. A fridge was available for general use. The showers and toilets were fairly basic but did the job and were regularly cleaned.

There was a small play area for children with swings and a slide.

A steam railway station was a few 100 yards away and was easily accessible for watching the trains come in and fill up with water. There is also a nearby river for dogs to swim in.

Overall a relaxing site, quiet at night, just what we wanted.
