Just spent 5 nights here for the bank holiday weekend. Haven still haven't done anything about the drainage on the touring field, we had rain and this site floods in heavy rain, the field is so uneven and pitches still arent marked out properly.

The touring warden is really helpful and I felt sorry for him as he was struggling to pitch the tents up due to the flooded field. It is such a shame that Haven haven't invested in this touring area as this site has so much to offer, the facilities for families are really good with a fantastic pool both inside and out.

The toilet block isnt big enough when the site is full. They need to put some hardstanding pitches in for caravans and have a specific area for tents as people were pitching up with massive tents/pup tents and the space was limited on the field.

Haven have invested in other sites so I don't understand why this site has been left like this for years

We wont be returning until they sort it out especially when we paid the hefty fees for bank holiday that they were charging!

Just returned from our first ever weekend camping with my wife and seven year old daughter.

We booked Friday to Monday for £88. 50 from haven's special offers online.

We arrived at 6:30pm and were shown to one of the last available EHU pitches. The site was full and we were packed in like sardines right behind the toilet block number 26. I'm not sure what was underneath the ground on this particular pitch but you could hear the drains and the ground was constantly vibrating which was really loud at night.

On the whole the toilets and showers were clean with lots of hot water, however my wife did find a used sanitary towel left on the seat in the shower cubicle and someone in the gents had totally obliterated the toilet bowl and just left it. I suppose you can't really blame the site for this more so the people who were staying.

The site facilities were great for kids. The pool and changing rooms were clean and tidy. All the kids seemed to love the spinning wheel in the play area which again was well maintained and safe.

We would visit this site again but would make sure we got there early to be away from the noisy toilet block.

Well, a previous reviewer said not to visit this site if you wanted peace and quiet, they were right!

to be fair we are 'oldies' so it was just a case of wrong campsite, if you have kids it is ideal, loads of entertainment, kids club etc.

The wardens are friendly and helpful, security was good.

The showers were usually full. The ladies was anyway. The pitches on the EHU were quite close together.

We used it as a base for touring the lakes for which it is ideal. Shop prices weren't too bad.

All in all you get what you pay for!

I have just returned from a great 3 night break. This site has pros and cons but I feel the pros outweigh the cons. The camping area is made up of EHU and non EHU. You have free choice of where you pitch in the Non EHU. This is greast but it can also backfire if someone camps too close. The toilet block is immaculate and checked at hourly intervals through out the day. The showers are free, hot and clean. There are plenty of toilets. We were there during a very sunny school holiday so on some days toilet roll was lacking in the morning before the first spot check.

As this is a Haven site it has all the usual entertainment programmes which are all included within the price (kids clubs, disco, caberet ect. It also includes use of the pools indoor and outdoor, the bouncy castle and outdoor play area. There are additional costs for crazy golf and trampolining and water activities but we didn't feel the need to use these.

It is a 20 minute (ish) drive to Kendal and about 30 mins to Windermere.

Grange over sands is around about 10 mins around the corner but only has small shops, 1 coop and 1 spar so it is advised that you stock up before landing.

Holme Farm Ice cream Farm just outside Grange Over sands is a definate must the ice cream is fab and there is a small play area for kids if you fancy a coffee.

The children had a great time (age 2 and 4)

I had a great time.

The OH found the only con the noise a bit much but I liked the buzz of camp life and the banter that comes with it. This is not the site to choose if you want traditional camping in a field but if you need the kids to be entertained in all weathers this is a great option.

We got a good price which meant it was cheaper than most sites and that was in whit week.

I saw a lot of dogs so assume they are welcome.

The warden is extremly friendly and helpful and this can make a huge difference I have found.

The family have visited Lakelands for a number of years now and we find it to be excellent in all respects. On arrival the security attendant is very helpful and always smiling, no matter the weather. We generally try to pitch close to the tree lined edges of the site for that little extra protection from the wind. The toilet block and wash stations are always well maintained and stocked. We have had several stays and on only one occasion did a group get a little unruly, but camp wardens are very efficient and we had no repeat of the rucus.

The arcades are fab for the kids and they do enjoy collecting the tickets for prizes.Down side is the tent gets full of teddies and key rings. The site underwent a large redevelopment about 2 years ago and now boasts excellent sports bar come restaurant, The Mash and Barrel, good food at a fair price, the indoor heated pool is a big hit with the family, as well as bikes for hire and go carts the kids wont be bored at all.

Local points of interest include Duckys Park Farm,(10min walk) good value for the younger generation, Cartmel is beautiful and well worth the visit (10 min drive). If you wanted to stay on camp then you could walk along the estuary and if weather permits take a bottle of wine and a picnic.

If I had to criticize in any way shape or form it would be about the prices in the on site shop, quite a bit more expensive than your local supermarket, but hey, you are on holiday and would expect it I suppose.

Drinks in the bar are as at home so no issue there, all in all a very clean and well cared for site, we will vist around 3-4 times this year.

Very good site. all the facilities excellent. the toilets and showers obviously pretty new and being kept spotless.

Shown to our pitches by a very friendly warden upon arrival

The only downside is how close the ehu pitches are, can't see how they can be enforcing any kind of six metre rule.

A must is the sticky toffee pudding company shop just down the road from the site.

Stock up before you go the nearest supermarket is in kendal

When we first arrived the warden was extremely helpful and allowed us to put our car at the side of our pitch.

There are various car parks to put your cars when in peak and they are tidy and near to the pitches. When setting up we were given the freedom to choose our spot and once eventually pitched (ground is full of stones and it's hard to get tent pegs into) we went for a walk around the resort.

All was very clean and immaculate and the evening entertainment consisted of a young female dressed in skimpy silver hot pants singing to club 90's which was very entertaining! The bar drinks were very reasonable and a pint was around £3 whilst a spirit and mixer was around £3.50. The local shop was quite reasonable too and not much more expensive than a local co-op.

The weather was unkind to us although we enjoyed watching the lightening over the nearby hills. On the Sunday there was a farmers' market held in the car park which I personally found a little disappointed.

Toilets and shower blocks were kept in an immaculate way and hedges, flowerbeds and ground were well kept too.

Overall good value for money and an excellent place to stay!

We booked this site because of the special offer we received, which makes it difficult to complain about (under £40 for 4 nights!).

The park facilities are excellent, the pool was always very busy but well staffed and the changing rooms etc. We always found to be clean. The on site shop is perhaps a bit pricey (but given our special offer they had to make money somewhere).

It is a site to shop before you arrive as the nearest supermarket was half an hour away in Kendall (although in the lakes that is hardly an unhappy drive).

The on site pub was good value. The evening entertainment was aimed at families but the colume of which was always far too loud (even for a group of 4 families).

The camping area itself was crowded to say the least. We had an electric hook up and whilst the wardens where very helpful the pitches where crammed in. Add to this that pets are allowed it was perhaps an accident waiting to happen

The toilet blocks seemed clean on the mens side but the women in our party reported the opposite. The family shower room is very small. Saying that there was always hot water.

There is lots to do in the area, we found the Haverthwaite and Lakeside Railway and Duckys Farm (which is within walking distance) to be really good.

All in all I think we would return but would avoid at anything like peak times.

We visited this site for the Easter weekend and will definitely not be returning!

I think it very much depends what you are looking for.

If you want space, peace and quiet and an escape do not choose this site.

If you are happy with being crowded, lots of noise and rowdy activities then this is the place for you.

We went with family members who are Haven fans but they said this was their least favourite Haven site. We are definitely not Haven fans.

We were told to pitch where we liked which was good but all fields were very cramped. The EHU fields even more so.

There were an awful lot of noisy (3am music and shouting!) campers which wasn't very family friendly and the security didn't really patrol enough to monitor this problem. I had to buy earplugs!

The facilities were modern as you would expect from a Haven site.

The toilets and showers were well cleaned throughout the day however the last clean was about 7.30 followed by a lot of people getting ready to go out and leaving a big mess. We also found that there was no toilet roll most nights from about 9.30 until 7.30 the next morning!

The area is great. Lots of lovely places to visit. South Lakes Wild Animal Park is great and feeding the giraffes was lovely.

We have just returned from Lakeland and had a really great time. The facilities were excellent and the campsite warden very helpful. Plenty of space to camp for non-electric but did seem a bit cramped for electric hook-up. Shower block always clean, showers hot and powere sockets for hairdryers etc. 5 washing up sinks and three drinking water points. Everything spotless!

The pool is fab and the changing rooms brilliant.

The outdoor pool was closed and the kids play area was still in the process of being refurbished but my kids enjoyed the free bouncy castle. Will all be ready for peak season!

Didn't really use evening entertainment - much the same as you expect at most Haven sites, but great for kids.

South Lakes Wildlife Park is well worth a visit. We even got to feed the giraffes! And you can call in at Booths Store on the way back to stock up on groceries - closest thing to Tesco etc, offering cooked chickens as well good barbecue selection etc

Overall we had a great time and would definitely return. At £39.00 for 4 nights stay excellent value!

Have just returned from a short family break at this site.

The facilities on the site were fine. The swimming pool was very clean and had recently been refurbished, as had the toilet/shower block.

Unfortunately these positives can not make up for the awful pitches. We had gone for an electrical hook up and after reading previous reviews were a little worried. We then received the Haven brochure with its lovely pictures and descriptions of well laid out pitches. We knew Lakeland had had a refurb last year and were hopeful this had extended to the campsite. This was not the case.

The pitches are so close together that when we sat out at the front of our tent, we could touch the awning of the caravan in front. When the people in the tent behind read their children bedtime stories, we could hear it word perfect. We were surrounded on all sides.

As a previous reviewer has said, if we had wanted to get off the site, I don't know how we would have managed. Electrical hook ups stretched from the tents, between the tents and over the grass causing trip hazards.

There was no sense of order at all. Its such a shame as the facilities are good and the Warden extremely helpful, but until they reassess their pitch layout we will not be going back.

Packed in like sardines, was told on booking all included, upon arrival was given list of prices for all activities.

Pitches were dirty and that tight guidelines overlapping. If you take a family up there after paying £50 a night for 4 man tent then it costs a fortune for your stay unless you just want to swim in the free pool

Me and my partner spent a week here last September our first camping trip. You could pitch where you liked if you didn't want electric hook up, I would advise to chose wisely though as the ground is uneven and we had very bad weather and woke up floating the first night never the less the warden was extremely helpful and helped us move. The shower blocks were cleaned daily at regular intervals and they were heated well plenty of showers and toilets which always had hot water.

The shop was good but pricey you could get pretty much anything you needed there there was a bakery and hot food counter too in the shop and the staff was lovely. The chip shop on site wasn't very nice at all it could of been a lot cleaner, the staff didn't seem very experienced, and the food wasn't nice at all but there was a fantastic one about 1 mile up the road in the little village. The bar/restaurant served a very nice breakfast good value for money.

The entertainment was your typical haven cheesy stuff but was quite entertaining some nights good for children I suppose. Launderette came in handy but was pricey as was day time activities. Apart from the extremely horrid weather we enjoyed our selves overall good holiday.

We booked in at Lakeland as it was a Haven site and we were taking our two young grandchildren with us for a 5 day autumn break. The facilities at the Haven centre are good and certainly cater for the young visitor. As other reviews have stated the site is also ideally situated for the bottom side of the Lake District with all its attractions. The local store on site was not too well stocked but it was the end of the season.

On the tourer site there is one toilet / shower block in the centre which we always found clean and warm.

That is where the good points end. The BIG downside to this site, and the reason we will not be returning is the pitches. There did not appear to be any formal method of allocating your pitch. Although the warden walked us to an area he simply said 'hook up is there you can pitch in whatever direction you wish'.

We were in the centre of the field and by the 2nd day we were surrounded in such a way as I could not see how we could have got off if we had wanted to leave at that time. We came back to find a row of tents pitched in front of our van with only approx 6 feet spare. Likewise the room either side was no larger. I was seriously concerned that if a unit had caught fire it would have spread across the site. Enough said I think.

Thanks to the News of the World we took the opportunity of staying for one week for £26.00, which included access to the entertainment centre.

I was amazed at the size and quality of the swimming pool and always accessible until 6pm. I think it does close part of the day, but it was a bonus when open. The grounds were immaculately cared for. The shop was well stocked.

Toilets and showers were always clean and available. The rain, when we arrived, created pools of unwelcome water and mud, but the ground is flat and did tolerate many heavy cars and caravans.

The surrounding South Lakeland creates is own attraction, so we were never short of places to visit. We were out of season, apart from an unusually hot week-end, so things may differ during the school holidays. We were happy.
