 Lovely location with “magic door” to the Chatsworth estate. Otherwise a pretty average site. Clearly CAMC have not invested in it for some as the lease ends.
Reception closed at 6 so as we arrived just after we had arranged for our pitch info to be left for collection. Warden came next day to collect small key from secret gate, we were supposed to drop it off. The note left with the key isn’t clear about that. Fully serviced non awning pitch was fine, no views from any pitch.
Nice (fairly long with muddy steep sections) walk to Bakewell, fill your boots with puddings and tarts at the original Bakewell pudding place, and one of the 3 fish and chip places. It feels a longer walk back!
Just by the campsite Prince of Wales pub at Baslow has very good food and a really nice atmosphere and is dog friendly.
30 minute drive to peak cavern at castleton, great lunch at Dolly’s in castleton and circular walk to Blue John cavern. Great guides at both and both dog friendly. We were lucky to have the tours to ourselves!

The site appears pretty rammed but it's because of the shape and layout, it doesn't feel that way whilst using it. Facilities clean and grounds tidy as is standard priority for CMHC sites.
A lot of the pitches are under trees, which was a blessing for us as it was very hot, but those trees dropped thousands of tiny drops of sap over every horizontal or sloping surface, so we had to wash the windscreen before we could drive off (and everything else when we got back).
The outstanding feature of the site was the wardens, they were joyful, friendly, energised and helpful. Made such a difference and exceeded expectations ( based on experiences of other CMHC stays).

Took advantage of CAMC free night offer otherwise too expensive. Good challenging hike up to the Tower after check-in.
Next day walked to and from Bakewell - had a good pub lunch sat outside The Peacock in the autumn sun.
Good couple of pubs in Baslow for evening meal - take a torch as the walk is a footpath at the edge of the Park.
Good enclosed dog area which we managed to get to ourselves a couple of times.
Visiting chip van a disappointment. Minimum order, expensive and not good quality.

We came here to try and photograph the deer in the park, and the location didn't disappoint! At times the deer were quite close to the door through from the site, and the stags were beginning to do their bellowing and clashing. Please do be aware that a testosterone-fuelled stag can be dangerous - we were amazed at how many people were getting very close to them, often taking their dogs with them.
Even if you don't want to photograph the deer, the park is large, lush. Well kept and with plenty of paths to follow, and Chatsworth House courtyard cafe and garden shop allow dogs, which was appreciated.
Although the price has been negatively commented on, you have to consider what you get for your money. The free access to such a fantastic park, combined with the good CAMC facilities, convinced me that it was a very reasonable price.
The site itself is up to usual CAMC standards as regards facilities, cleanliness etc, and though there are a lot of pitches in a relatively small space (as mentioned by others), the trees, bushes and walls around the site stop you from feeling crowded in. A nice touch was being met on the entry lane by one of the wardens, clip board in hand - it was a speedy check in and also prevented any bottlenecks in the reception area.
A visiting pie van on the Wednesday evening was extremely popular, and I'm aware that there is a fish and chips option on 2 other evenings. The Co-op in the village is a pleasant stroll away and stocks all essentials - though I must say there was also a good range of fresh bread, cakes etc in the site shop which were selling fast.
The staff are lovely, and when we inadvertently locked ourselves out of our van they calmed us down, organised a local locksmith and stayed over their hours until we were sorted and back in the van. Top marks for service!

Great site with good facilities
Unfortunately the weather wasn't kind to us but still managed to get some good walks in and visits to Bakewell and Matlock.

Great location and access to chatsworth. Nice local village.

Lovely clean, warm site, staff very helpful,
Hadn't realised until on site that works would be carried out to some pitches, but work didn't start until 8:30 ish so not a problem but would have been nice to know before booking

Stayed for a week on a serviced pitch, good to not have to worry about refilling and emptying the water, and elsan point on the pitch too! Barely used the excellent facilities block.
Whole site kept to usual high club standards with very helpful and friendly staff.
Nice to have an off lead dog walk and direct access to the estate.
Loads to do in the area, though we didn't make use of any of the local food and drink places.
Definitely recommend it!

We had a lovely few days here despite the rain.
We will definitely book to come back in the spring, /summer.
Toilet/showers were spotless.
The site convenient position nice walk into the village.

We are just back from 4 nights at Chatsworth. We went to see the Christmas market and the house decorations and really enjoyed both. There is nothing special about the site itself.
It is like a giant car park with trees around it. The facilities are clean and tidy and as this was late autumn, it was good that they were nice and warm.
The site is well maintained and the wardens are friendly. However, the main attraction of this site is the location.
It is in the old walled garden of the Chatsworth Estate and you are given a key so you can let yourself in and out of the estate where there are lots of great walks.
We feel it is worth paying the ridiculously high price simply for the location but don’t expect the site itself to live up to the price!
We have been visiting the site for years but this year we discovered breakfast at the Wheatsheaf pub in Baslow.
It is about a 20 minute walk through the estate and out the kissing gate into Baslow, and the Wheatsheaf is just across the road.
They do a great breakfast with lots of choice.
It is definitely worth a visit if you are staying at the site.

Great site within the Chatsworth grounds. Checking in after 1pm is essential due to the narrow lane for arriving and departing.
Once you have your pitch you get a key to a door leading out to the Chatsworth estate. From here it is about 15-20 minutes walk to Baslow where there are a number of pubs and a couple of shops.
You can also walk to the Chatsworth House and pay to tour inside. If you fancy a walk you can head for Ednsor and on to Bakewell.
Buses to and from Bakewell run frequently.
The site facilities are typical of the Caravan and Motorhome Club.

We have been to Chatsworth many times before and my previous reviews are still accurate. The site is in an excellent location which is why we keep coming back and the facilities are perfectly adequate and always clean.
In my review from last May, I mentioned the noisy crows for the first time. Well, they have now at least quadrupled in number and scream loudly from dawn to dusk. This has not resulted in a very restful holiday as we have been woken before 6am every morning by the screaming of dozens of crows nesting in the trees on site. If you are sensitive to noise and like to sleep in, then you need to keep this in mind as you definitely won’t be able to!
The price of the site has also gone up considerably this year so we are going to look elsewhere in the area for the future to find somewhere cheaper and more peaceful!

Our second visit to the site and it was as good as I remembered. Facilities were spotless and the wardens friendly.
It's pricier than most CAMC sites but I guess that's because of the location in the grounds of Chatsworth House. Visited the house decked out for Christmas, and then the light trail, so festive!
The site was only around 2/3 full so plenty of pitch choice. Drove our motorhome to Buxton as couldn't find a bus that went direct.
Parked at Pooles Cavern for just £2. About a 20 min walk into town.

Another lovely 3 nights at Chatsworth. There was a lot of rain this time around, and one thing we noticed was that many of the pitches are under trees, resulting in an endless drip drip drip on the caravan roof even when the rain has stopped.
We were on a blue peg pitch, and luckily we were able to get one without trees overhead, but they were few and far between.
Facilities were the same as usual, and we love the ability to walk in the estate.
We enjoyed a number of lovely walks, which is what makes this site for us.

Great site within the Chatsworth Estate, you get a key to a door for direct acres to the park.
Some pitches are a bit tight by normal C&M club standards, but facilities are good.
Reasonable walk into Baslow where there are a few pubs and a restaurant. We didn't try them, got a few mixed reviews from other campers to be honest.
We did walk to Bakewell and got a bus back. This was a good day out.
