My wife and I had two nights camping on the site at the start of July, ok it's not cheap but you get what you pay for, it's lovely the full place is spotless.
We camped in the meadow at the far end of the site, there was lots of room and good quality wooden picnic tables/chairs here and there. I feel that a toilet/shower building at this end of the site would be a great asset.
We had a meal in the Royal Oak (just up the road)on the first night which was very good, nice pub with beer garden onto the canal.
We had a trip into Brecon which is a lovely town with plenty of carparking and we shopped in Morrisons which was very handy.
Following our return to site, we walked two miles along the canal towpath to Talybont-on-usk, a village with some nice pubs, we only saw a couple of boats, but lots of people walking and on bikes. We had a great weekend and will return.

Oh My Goodness - What a beautiful site. In fact I would say, this is the best site I have been on and we have been on a number of Touring parks over the past 5 years.
Mind you - we only stayed the one night as we were visiting family in South Wales and rather than book a hotel, we chose to take our caravan down to Brecon and pitch and travel to the party venue and drive back.
It took us 3 hours to reach the site but we felt like we had had a break when we left the following day.
The site was like driving into a Garden Centre - the plants were so lovely and fragrant in their displays, well attended to. We pitched on the Orchard where each pitch was segregated with a hedge of plants and bushes, really cosy.
Water and electric shared between 2 pitches. The amenities were superb. The waste and chemical area were spotless and a hose to clean your loos after emptying ( It looked like a french toilet in fact ! ) The toilets/showers were immaculate.
Showers had plenty of room - a small bench to place your stuff, 3 hooks for clothes, push button shower which lasted approx 20 secs. Lovely and warm too.
Also just outside of the shower cubicles was a couple of squeegee mops to clean the shower after you. The toilets had fragrant blocks on them - and there were cubicles with sinks. There was plenty more facilities - but as we were only there the one night - we didn't have to use them.
We took a walk around the site before we left, and there was an area with Caravans, motorhomes and tents on and further on an area for tents only.
On leaving the site and turning right and making your way through the village of Pencelli - there is a lovely pub with a garden in the back which is situated on the left of the road. How handy is that ?
All in all - a really lovely site - but. I hasten to add here - just one downfall - They don't allow dogs and we have 2 pooches. So we wont be able to stay at Pencelli Castle unless its for a very short stay without our dogs as they come with us everywhere.
Perhaps the owners might change their minds sometime - I'll have to monitor their website.

Fantastic site. Plenty of space in the meadow, even when busy. Very well kept greens with good drainage. There was a spectacular storm on Friday 24 June during the evening yet by the morning it had soaked away. The gardens are kept immaculate by Paul the gardener and have been recognised by having the 2010 David Bellamy award and the loos are amongst the best you can expect. There are 2 family rooms with showers, toilets, baby changing facilities and disabled access to them. Very impressed although it is not cheap. But you do get what you pay for.
Great place to stay for easy access to the Brecon Beacons or if you want to canoe the canal down to the pub.

This has to be the best site we have ever visited. Immaculately presented and beautifully laid out. The toilet block is well worth the numerous awards it appears to have received, which are proudly displayed.
This is a Mecca for walkers, with the canal next door and the Brecon Beacons within easy (if strenuous) walking distance. There is also a good canal side pub just down the road - and an even better one is the Star in Talybont, a relaxing 20 minute walk away along the canal towpath.
Whilst not cheap, this site is worth every penny. They don't charge for the WiFi, which is just as well, as the connection was lost regularly. (They say this is because of the large number of kids playing online games. )

Very busy, never crowded.
After I read the other reviews I was pleased to go and read they won a award for the loo of the year I laughed but I could really see why. There facilities are amazing with hot water all the time and all very clean.
Great location with several pubs near by.
Too quiet for us with there No Music rule. Defintly a family camp site.
Owners were very helpful but price seemed a tad steep considering tents pay the same as motorhomes at £11.30 per person per night, but like I said always hot water and always clean.
Very nice place I would recommend to family's but not couples

We selected this site for our final trip of 2010 and were not disappointed. The shower block is among the best we have experienced and was a pleasure to use although it was a little on the cool side when we stayed.
We had a EHU pitch part of which was roped off to allow the grass to recover there was still ample room for our Norfolk lake tent with no issue pegging out and nice level pitches the site is a nice mix of serviced hardstands nearest the shower block, grass EHU pitches and the end field that looked very nice but had a bit more of a 'wilderness' feel.
The shop was still open when we stayed and we bought most of our bread there and some nice local honey even though we stayed out of season the site seems to be popular with people on shorter weekend breaks.
ADJ to the shower block is an information room with fridges and freezers anyone can use and a drying room for outside clothing the whole site is very tidy and well kept and there is even a facility for washing muddy boots and mountain bikes!
Overall this is a lovely site for exploring this part of Wales, Brecon is the nearest town with nice shops and a large Morrisons the area is famous walking country and we found it exhausting sitting and looking at the mountains for hours (well we were on holiday after all!)
This lovely site passes the 'would we go back'? test with flying colours

Had our second visit to Pencelli May bank holiday. Fantastic site.
Clean facilities, helpful staff, good play area for kids and a pub within 5 minutes walk.Perfect!
Great weather on both visits was a bonus.
Site fully booked but did not have to wait for showers etc, family rooms are great. Fridge and freezers available free of charge.
The dogs as previously mentioned were a bit of a problem on our last visit but this time didn't notice them.
Would recommend and will return.

We stayed here Fri to Sun on pitch h, right opposite the toilet block which was spotless. It was a bit of a nuisance when showering having to push the button every 30 secs to continue flow of water. There are no dogs allowed on the site but because of nearby farm a dog wandered around the site one morning, and you could hear dogs barking several times during our stay which was quite annoying. We didn't see the shop open, although I presume it was open at certain times
The royal oak pub 100 yards down the road opened at 6.30 each evening and the staff there were very friendly and the meals were excellent. Canal footpath nearby if you fancy a walk.

First trip to the Brecon Beacons for myself and a couple of friends. Not disappointed staying at this site.
I arrived to find the site apparently closed well it was Sunday 28th November.
The site attendant was extremely helpful and kind with advice and opened facilities up for just three of us as they had advertised being open until 3rd December. We stayed on caravan pitches although we were in tents as site was empty and it was handy for the toilet block etc.
Facilities are very good. Though we did struggle with the low output of the showers -though this may have been due to the very low temperatures as it did get down to below -10c one night-so won't be an issue for people camping at 'sensible' times!
Don't count on anything from the local pub I made that mistake it- opens as and when the owner feels like it apparently -so we took a cab into Brecon -best book in advance.
Overall a good site would be brilliant if the local pub was open for evening food etc.

First camping trip to wales so I was looking forward to it, when we arrived we missed the campsite due to no signs being up but there are signs showing where the campsite is coming in from the brecon direction but we got there in the end.
On arrival we found the staff to be very friendly indeed we paid for a three night stay from friday to monday, the site shop is well stocked but its not open all the time over the weekend only one hour on sunday which I thought they could open it a little longer during peak season.
We were told to pick our own pitch in the meadow area which was very nice, they also have benches all around the site for you to use a welcome indeed, they have a caravan area which is called the oaks where electric hooks ups are used also some pitches for tents.
When reading other reviews some said its a long walk to the toilets if you are in the meadow area but I thought not its about 5 mins tops,on a down side there is only one toilet / shower block for the whole site but it is very clean again some reviews have said that it the best toilets they have been to but I can say I've been to better ones, also the pot washing facilities is located in a small room again should have more for the size of the site.
They have a good information room and have got fridge/freezers in the same room for you to use,
Also they have got a drying room and a washing machine and tumble dryer for you to use but you have to pay for this.
Did not use the local pubs so cannot comment on that one but saying that we passed the one nearest to the campsite everyday it always looked shut.
All in all 7/10 for our stay in wales/brecon its very nice but the weather did not help our stay
As it rained hard for 2 days (ray mears would have moaned).
