Just came back from freshwater this is well run site great surroundings. Pitches are sized well but this depends upon where you are pitched we were in row D. Although the wife liked the pitch I thought we were on the main road to the site everything comes past your pitch on this row.
Toilet and shower block was very clean and tidy in fact they should receive an award for the toilet and shower blocks constantly been cleaned.
The Jurassic centre was brilliant for the kids kept them entertained and the out door pool was really good too. Fortunately we had the weather to use this facility. The park is in an ideal location from the beach creating great walks although we didn't sit on the beach much because it is a shale beach. Lots of facilities to keep the kids entertained and the park seems to be a safe environment for children to play around the park too.
Staff are very friendly and help the shop is stocked well with all essentials, prices are reasonable too.
Only down side to the park it can get a little noisy when people are coming out of the entertainment at night there are only two security staff for big site like this therefore they are not always around. If you are after quiet and more private pitch I would look towards the back of the park edge of the park.
I was also charged five pounds for a replacement pass ticket which was just a piece of hand written card with your name which I thought was harsh. All in All a very good holiday was had by all and well worth a visit.
Spent 8 nights at this site. We were on pitch W10 on the tent only field which had bigger pitches generally than the main touring field which seemed cramped. Pitches in this field are terraced on 3 levels which led to Great views of the sea however it is quite a climb from the toilet block as we were on the top level. Our kids loved the indoor and outdoor pools plus games of bowling for £2 if you arrived before 11am. Indoor pool has slides, jacuzzi sauna and steam room plus a gym. Outdoor pool was colder but very popular when the sun was out, lifeguards were a bonus. Beach is very shingly and hard to get up however views are fantastic just watch the cliffs as they are prone to rock falls on this area. Toilets facilities were immaculate though with someone constantly cleaning them.
Great base to visit Weymouth, Portland bill and the other way west bay and Lyme Regis. Great crabbing can be done at the harbour at west bay. We will going back to freshwater next year highly recommended.
Stayed here for 5 nights early July. Easy roads in to site. Speedy reception and shown to our pitch promptly. We were on row A on a hard standing pitch with hook up water and drain. A good view of the park and handy for shower blocks. Great site for a family holiday. I know it wasn't the high season school holidays yet but all the facilities where all freshly painted, clean and tidy with enough staff to keep them that way, even at the weekend when the park filled up to around 2 thirds capacity. The park is loaded with things to keep children happy and if that's not enough there's always the beautiful walks and the beach, but being a shingle beach, a pair of flip flops should be worn. We got the best of the weather here, so we spoilt ourselves rotten by using the outdoor pools everyday. Out of curiosity, we also used the indoor pool on one occasion, that was spotless too. Our wee 4 year old loved it, with its water slides, splash area and water spouts.
I have to mention the staff in the bars and the wardens outside on the park they were all helpful, very polite and courteous at all times. A special mention to the entertainment team who where top notch with all the children there.
Lovely flat pitches, well marked out, and plenty of room for motorhome and awning. Three toilet blocks, never been on a site with so many showers and toilets available! All spotlessly clean the whole week we were there. Well stocked shop, newspapers, groceries, etc. Very friendly reception staff. Amusement & Games room available, but only open on Fri Sat & Sun when we were there. Excellent entertainment centre, called the Jurassic centre, only 2yrs old. Fab indoor swimming pool (warm), with great slide, and water features for children adjacent to the main pool. Jacuzzi, steam room, and sauna also poolside, Changing rooms spotlessly clean. Bar/restaurant/takeaway upstairs with verandah overlooking site, and sea vies. Also, ten pin bowling lanes. This centre is open to the public, so we found it best to use the facilities in the day, before the schools came out! Outdoor pool, with grass area to sit out on. This pool is heated, but a bit cold! All the facilities (except the bowling), are included in the pitch fee, unlike many other sites who charge extra for the pool. Meals and snacks reasonably priced. Entertainment venue and another bar open on weekends, seemed very popular. Only downside - t. V reception poor (could do with aerial points on the hook up point), mobile phone signal poor. Private shingle beach, and huge play field. Can walk into Burton Bradstock (10mins), and Bridport only about 2 miles away. Gets busy on weekends. Would recommend midweek stay if you like peace and quiet!
Family of 4 (2x 8 year olds), a Bear Lake 6 and an SUV. Found by chance on the internet. We visited for a short break over the Whitsun Bank Holiday weekend and arrived early (before 9am!) to avoid the holiday traffic. Easy to find even if I hadn't had a Sat-Nav.
As our pitch (T20) hadn't been used the night before we were lucky enough to be able to pitch-up straight away - well worth asking the question. Receptionist very helpful. We were booked in the tent only area which is 'stepped' on three levels. The furthest pitches were a good walk away from the main facilities so if you've got kids, remember the scooters.
Decent sized flat pitch with hook up - enough to pitch a BL 6 and park next to it. Would have been enough room to park a trailer too. While we were within the stated tent size requirements on their website, there are a few larger pitches available should you want one.
Facilities. Toilets: Spotlessly clean and regularly maintained. Showers were hot and sufficient number of them.
Restaurant: Reasonably priced with acceptable waiting times even when they were busy. Good sized sun deck for eating/drinking.
Bowling Alley: 6 lanes adjacent to the restaurant. Reasonably priced (with cheaper off peak rates) and helpful technician/cashier/shoe attendant(!) that also helped set up our score display. Ramps and bumpers for the kids too.
Clubhouse: Need to be there fairly early to get a seat with a view. Entertainment was enjoyable although maybe a bit cheeesy (but that adds to the fun!). Bar prices were reasonable, considering you were on a site. Staff polite.
Site Shop: Well stocked and a good selection of a bit of everything for those things you've forgotten! Not particularly expensive either.
Swimming pools: The outdoor pool was cold - we didn't try it! Indoor pools were excellent. There a fun pool with slides for the kids and a decent size pool for swimmers. Plus hot tub, sauna and steam room for adults. Clean and well supervised with lifeguards.
Kids Playground: Unsupervised, shingle based, rather than cushioned or bark, play area. Kept the kids occupied but for the children who wanted to pile the shingle up on the bottom of the slide.
Amusement Arcade: If you've got kids that look forward to play arcade machines, you'll be disappointed here. Poor.
Donkey/Pony rides: Enquire and book recommended. We didn't and missed out because it isn't a case of turn up and ride! Our bad, not theirs!
Beach: Shingle not sandy so no bucket and spade. Also, quite a steep beach so it gets deep very quickly. No lifeguards. More of a 'walking' beach than a family one.
Clifftops: Not strictly a facility but accessible from the park. However, not easily accessible from the beach so plan your route and expect a long walk! Fantastic views and very peaceful.
Just returned from a lovely 4 night stay at Freshwater including bank holiday Monday, but the grass pitches are well marked out and a good size. We had fairly good weather but there was one day of rain and the pitch didn't get waterlogged. There was a lovely atmosphere on the touring and camping area. The wash facilities were clean, nice hot showers and cubicles were well thought out for families using them.
The swimming pools were also very good, the Jurassic Fun Centre is very new, so facilities are in nice condition. We didn't do 10 pin bowling but looked excellent if stuck on a wet day. Also didn't use restaurant but it had beautiful views overlooking the Channel. We enjoyed the one night we spent in the evening entertainment, the drink prices were fair price and we enjoyed the Girls Aloud tribute act, the resident entertainment crew could probably do with seeing how some of the larger holiday park chains do it, it was slightly hi de hi and dated but that was the only negative of the trip. There is also a children's play area and large field for ball games. Dog walkers will enjoy the mass of walking areas.
There is a store on site which is well stocked and seemed reasonably priced, Bridport is only minutes away with a large Morrisons. We visited Lyme Regis which is only 20 mins away which is a gorgeous sea side town for crabbing and a beach day. This area has so much to see and visit for families and the coastal path on the site doorstep is a brilliant way to see the Jurassic coast.
Overall I rate this site highly and look forward to visiting again as we would like to use more of the facilities and see more of the surrounding area. The actual location is probably one of the most scenic we have been to for a large holiday park.
Cannot fault this site, went for 8 days in the busy period over bank holiday in august 2012. Massive site with plenty to do. Had mixed weather, so sunny days spent at pool which kids loved and the adults to be honest. Went with 2 other sets of friends we were all pitched near each other and 1 min from one of many toilet/shower blocks. These I can honestly say were kept spotless clean, had several with toilet, shower and sink with plenty of space to get dressed in, these sometimes had a a small amount of people waiting for them, but were always just showers available if you did not want to wait for the luxuary, all ways a cleaner around seemed to be there 24/7 to be truthful.
Staff were really helpful, take away was good slightly expensive but heaven if you don't want to cook, you can even pre-book it! Monkey World well worth the visit and not over priced to go in either, and ideal for a dismal day.
Biggest let down for this site is the beach, it is shingle stones and boy does it cut your feet up, my poor dog refused to go to the beach after the second day and no matter what we put on our feet, them stones got in! Which is such a shame as this could be lovely and many hours spent there with kids.
Club house, well to be honest needs updating this site has spent a lot of money on the pool area and now needs to do the same again in the club, however will recommend playing Ship Ahoy, great fun! We struggled to get seats then pillars blocked view, so we only went in there twice.
Overall though, plenty for the kids, good park area, horse riding and donkey rides on site, huge bouncy/inflatable area, indoor pool area was great fun for the kids, and the sauna and steam room was bliss for us adults.
Many walks can be had here and you will come home toned, up hill mainly and hard work but worth it for the views. Would I go back, not sure, put sand on the beach and I would go every year until then will give it a miss.
When we arrived on site we were apprehensive about the descent down to the touring field as it is very steep. We felt a little nervous at the prospect of towing the caravan back out again; in the event it was fine but it could be tricky if the conditions are wet and your car is a little under powered. Check-in was efficient and the information provided very useful.
The pitches are a good size both in depth and width but the roads between opposite pitches are very narrow making manoeuvring large outfits very difficult when the site is busy – thank heavens for our motor mover! The walls surrounding the water supplies and rubbish bins create additional hazards when towing a caravan. Also, there were kids on scooters flying about everywhere with very little adult supervision going on although we realise that there is little the site management can do about this.
As previous reviews have stated, the facilities at this site are very good. The ‘en-suite’ style shower/toilet/sink cubicles are an excellent idea and make showering kids a breeze as there is so much room. The showers were never really hot during our August Bank holiday week stay but they were always acceptably warm. The indoor swimming pool complex is really nice although the pool is only just over a metre deep at all points – ideal for little ones but would be better if it had a deep end as well. The sauna, steam room and hot tub are limited to use by over 16 year olds and are all good.
Unfortunately, we didn’t have very good weather during our stay with lots of rain and very high winds. Because Freshwater is right on the beach, the winds off the sea are very strong. We hardly had any sleep all week as the awning was constantly battered by the wind. Luckily, we have strong heavy steel poles so our awning stood up to the conditions but several tent campers actually threw their tents away on site as the wind destroyed them. Regular visitors to the site told us that the pitches with hard standings were not quite as exposed but still got some wind.
The surrounding area is lovely and we will definitely visit Dorset again but we sadly won’t return to Freshwater as we will not risk the winds again which is a shame as the site is lovely.
This site is absolutely top notch - in a beautiful part of Dorset set along the Jurassic Coast. Clean and tidy, flat pitches and enough room for our 6 man tent, a car and trailer.
Facilities are fantastic for campers (and caravanner's). The shower block is never overly busy (queued once and then only two people in the queue). There are a number of shower cubicles which have ALL in one unit (WC, shower and sink) so the morning SSS (gents - you know what mean) goes perfectly !
Whilst we self catered mainly, the food in the club house is excellent - albeit the menu is a little 'samey' after a while.
The shop is very well stocked, and not over priced. All essentials (and some spares such as pegs, and tape etc) can be bought easily.
The pools (indoor and outdoor) are superb. The indoor is brand new and modern with super kids facilities (slide, fountains etc), and the pool is 1. 1m deep throughout
The outdoor is heated enough to be bearable - and set in grass which is pleasant for a sit and read whilst kids splash around - there is a paddling pool, and a swimming pool. One thing I would say is the outdoor pool is very deep for the little ones - our 6YO could just stand up in the shallow end, the deep end is 2+m
Both pools have fantastic life guards on duty all the time - and we experienced no time restrictions in the pools (despite it being fairly busy).
The club house is unfortunately a bit tired now. It's clean, and the entertainment is as can be expected on these sites (tacky - but fun fun fun) - however they do their best with the facilities they have. I believe however this is next on the radar for a refurb !
Staff friendly, smile and say hello, and addressed issues quickly.
Finally, there was little or no noise beyond 11pm - and even though this is down to the people on the site I do believe it's a sign of the 'kind of people' a site attracts!
The Freshwater Beach site is a fantastically well run holiday park.
As campers, we were directed to our pitch from the entrance so did not not have to hang about at the reception area. We were setting up our tent within five minutes of passing through the gate! We were given a welcome pack including our park passes, a map of the park and a range of useful information.
At a time when so many companies are cutting back on staff, it is great to see that Freshwater have so many around the site. It makes the site feel very 'safe' for kids and the whole park is spotless. The staff are full of energy, very friendly and great with the children.
I can only assume that they have an army of elves and pixies who keep the site so clean. The toilets and showers were consistently clean as was the swimming pool, changing rooms, washing up areas and the park in general. There were plenty of trade-sized bins scattered around the park which appeared to be emptied on a daily basis.
The activities are mainly geared around kids with morning and afternoon activities ranging from rounders to water polo to donkey derbies to face painting to water pistol fights. Donkey rides and pony treks are available for a fee (Donkeys @ £1. 50; 40 minute pony trek around the park is £17:00). A small road train also runs around the park during the day.
There is evening entertainment laid on at the clubhoues. My first impression was that it seemed a little dated however the kids (aged 7, 10 & 12) loved it. The bingo, dancing with Archie & Flopper, the talent show and everything else went down a storm. The entertainment carried on after 21:00 for adults and from what I gathered talking to other campers, it was well appreciated.
Both the indoor and outdoor pools were very clean and had more than enough life guards. There is also a hot tub, sauna room and steam room for the over 16s.
The shop is well stocked and reasonably priced for a park shop. A Morrisons is five minutes away in Bridport if a larger shop is required.
We did travel to Weymouth, Portland, Chisel Beach, Lyme Regis and walked to West Bay but we could have easily have spent the week on site without being bored.
A friendly warden made sure that we were settled and although we left 30 minutes late, nobody chased us off (maybe because they weren't fully booked)
This was our first visit to this site, and I have to say the facilities are very good. The toilet/shower blocks are almost spotless and in good working order.
There is an excellent roof bar overlooking the site with the beach in the distance which is very nice for an early evening drink in the sunset.
We were on a hardstanding pitch with grass at the side. We were told when we arrived to place our caravan on the hard standing, with the awning and the car on the neighbouring grass patch. Unfortunately there wasn't enough room for both our (standard-size) full awning and the car side by side on the grass patch, so we had to place the caravan a little further over on the hard stand. This meant that part of the awning was on the hard stand and part on the grass. So we feel the grass patches on pitches could be a little bigger.
Finally, one thing which I think really shows the business acumen of a site is whether they charge for Wi-Fi or not. I find it totally unacceptable in this day and age that anywhere should charge for Wi-Fi. This site was charging £4 per day or £20 for 7 days web access. I decided to make an excursion every evening to a local pub where the wi-fi was free. That pub had my custom for a meal and a few pints
That aside, a very good site with good facilities, but as an avid internet surfer, sadly I'm afraid I won't be returning to Freshwater Beach Holiday Park.
On first impressions this site is fantastic. We were met at the gate and directed to our pitch. Everywhere seemed flat, level, clean and well cared for.
Our pitch was close to all amenities, toilets, washblock, park, pool and club. We loved the private beach, albeit stony.
We loved the indoor and outdoor pools but think children younger than 12 who can swim could be unaccompanied. The children (twins aged 9) loved the daytime activities but hated the evening club. They refused to stay and listen to an elderly gentleman playing 'The Hokie Kokie' on an electric organ. This area needs improving as this entertainment is so dated.
Our kids loved the donkey rides but feel £1.50 for a 50 yard walk was very excessive.
We were impressed with the dog owners on site - it seemed every second camper had a dog but not once in our 11 day stay did we encounter any faeces.
However, after dark we experienced a lot of disturbance from teenagers, kicking balls and hiding around caravans - at one time at 2am! I did wonder why the site needed so much security and I soon realised. We had no reception at all on our phones so were unable to contact security.
That aside we did extend our 7 day stay to 11 as the weather was divine and visited every beauty spot along the Dorset coast.
This site is fantastically placed to tour Dorset. At £42 per night I don't think I will be returning and have already looked at cheaper sites in the area.
Just come back from a short holiday here, during what has to be the worst June on record. Awnings & tents were blown out in the winds, and the ground got very soggy because of the amount of rain that had fallen. Three nights in, we were told by camp staff that due to the forecast flooding, we needed to move off our pitch to another - but we decided to return home.
Beware when arriving that there are no brown camping road signs warning you that the entrance is approaching! Thankfully there was nothing behind us when we go there, as we had to stop suddenly on spotting the entrance.
The pitches are a good size - and unusually, you pitch with the jockey wheel on the pitch marker -which gives loads of room all round.
The Jurassic Fun complex pools were great - our children thought this was the best bit of the whole site! - especially the fun pool. Due to the weather, the outdoor pool was closed.
On our first night, we ate in the bar; the food was fine - everything with chips though - some pasta would have been a nice option. The real ale on sale was made locally in Bridport, and according to my husband was a really nice pint;and at £3. 20, comparable to pub prices.
There are two play areas with slides etc for children, as well as two big fields for ball games.
The showers were very busy whilst the site was busy, but were cleaned regularly throughout the day. There are some 'bathroom' cubicles with a loo and a washbasin, as well as some with just showers in. The layout of the showers was good - the space for keeping clothes dry was excellent, and there was plenty of hot water.
There was no TV signal where we were - although the shop does sell aerials, and there was no 3G Mobile coverage: so if you like technology whilst on holiday, bring your sky dish, and buy wi-fi tokens (£3 per day, but discounted if you buy more).
The staff were friendly, and although unfortunately the weather was dreadful, it is something that was out of everyone's control, so this is a site we would like to return to.
This is a clean well run site which has just opened its new and very impressive modern activity complex.
The park is ideal for families who want to keep on the go, as there is plenty to do. The shingle beach is only a short stroll away and the site boasts train and donkey rides around the park, two outdoor pools (not open until the end of May) and three indoor pools (toddler, kids fun pool and an adult pool).
There are also Ten Pin bowling alleys, a lovely Multi Gym, a Take Away food bar and and a slightly dated entertainment complex, although this was closed for a private function when we arrived.
We went slightly out of season and it was fine for us, but I would imagine that in the height of summer, this site is not for those who want peace and quiet.
Just got back from 4 nights at freshwater beech holiday park.
Wow what can I say, this is the 2nd time here and it just got better, facilities are second to none, spotless, showers are free and very very hot, they have a new complex open now called the jurassic centre, ten pin bowling, swimming, bar, I would definitely give the workers and campsite a top mark.
The park is 2 mins from a large Morrisons so handy to get all your food supplies, the site does have a shop which is very good too.
Also pitch size is great, when you book you know which one you have so you can look on the map and change it if its not to your liking.
Happy days from all the Anderson family, will definitely be going again, very very soon
