I have camped around 12 times at Brighthouse Farm since 2012. This is absolutely my favourite site for several reasons. It is perfect for my type of 'old school' camping.
The site is more or less level and has a lot of trees, hedgerows and tall vegetation to give the area a lot of individual areas, nooks and crannies and tons of character. Also the trees and tall hedgerows act as wind and weather breaks giving a good degree of protection from strong wind.
Some areas have electric hook-ups for caravans and other areas have none, which is ideal for us campers. You can park your car next to your tent or caravan.
There are no designated pitches and you are free to choose your own spot. The place is spacious and we have never been squashed in cheek-by-jowl with other people.
The showers, lavatories and wash rooms are plentiful, decent and well spread out. Other features that I like is that there is no clubhouse, bar, playground, Wi-Fi or other gimmicky features. The site is very dark at night and very quiet.
There is a narrow lane that runs past the site but there is very little traffic and noise. It is peaceful. The owner is a very amiable gentleman who does a nightly round greeting all the visitors and seeing that all's in order.
Near by is Long Melford, a fascinating village with a useful range of shops and Tesco at Sudbury is a 20 minute drive.
The place is perfect for simple, peaceful, uncomplicated, unbothered camping. Also, it is not expensive.

Nearly 2 years on from my first visit I returned to this site.
We had such a lovely time. The owner, Odell remembered us which was great.
Toilets and showers all freshly painted.
Such a great site.
Love the walks.
Will be back very soon

Lovely site. We had great position with outlook onto open fields and very peaceful.
Very friendly owner who welcomed us and showed us around the site. Good facilities.
Fantastic food at the Hartest Crown, a 15 minute bike ride away as the local pub, the Swan had parties booked in both days, so were not taking other bookings for meals.

We are a Dutch family and camp a lot in various countries with our touring caravan. Great campsite with lovely owners and easy going.
If you are looking for an informal campsite, with the basic needs (no camping shop etc), nice view this is a very good place to stay.
The first impression of the entrance might fool you a bit but the gem is in the back side of the property. Sanitary is clean. Taking showers with tokens worked fine for us.
The costs of camping are most reasonable.
We planned to stay for just about 2 nights en then move further. We changed plans and stayed for 6 nights, moved then to the Cotswolds (which was the original plan) en then came back because we liked it very much over here.
We appreciated your suggestion of locations to visit. And they were absolutely nice places like Lavenham, Long Melford (nice halls) etc.
Thank you for your hospitality. You were very kind and gave us a warm welcome. We hope to come back next year.
Carola and Jurjen (and children; 21, 19 and 16 years old).

Stayed for a couple of nights, very wet which we were advised. With his gator I never would have got the van on the pitch. Used motormover to get it off.
Basic facilities.
Surrounding trees could do with a little tidying but it is the beginning of the season.
Nice walks and a pub 40 mins walk away, but check if it is open as it was closed Sat and only opened between 4pm and 7pm on Sunday when we were there!

Lovely site with well kept grass.
Great hosts and great value.
Only one criticism is that the entrance to the site could do with a tidy up as it doesn’t look very inviting

Very well kept site. I had choice of pitches and had a south facing, so enjoyed the sun.
I have a dog and appreciated the well cut walks around the fields.
Will definitely stay again.

This was our second visit to Brighthouse.
The owners are very friendly, welcoming and accommodating, and have provided plenty of 'bathroom' facilities for those who don't have/use their own.
There's plenty of land for good dog-walks, and a path across the farm into the village, for the local pub.
A great base for visiting Long Melford, Clare, Lavenham, Bury St Edmunds, Sudbury, etc.

Ross and Odel were very hospitable and caring. When we arrived at the campsite Ross showed us around and showed us several areas with electric hook ups. We then choose where to pitch.
The campsite is kept in very good order with lovely scenery.
Unfortunately we camped the night that 7cm of rain fell in 1 hour and ended up with a leaky tent, which cut our stay short.
We would like to come back again as this was such a lovely relaxed campsite. Next time though we hope for dryer weather.

Beautiful surroundings, lovely flat pitches and well mowed grass. Friendly site owners, pub is about half an hour walk away across the fields and then along a pavement.
Check it's open before you set off as we had an wasted hour round trip when we found it wasn't open on a Saturday lunchtime.
Local shop doesn't seem to exist anymore so you really need a car if you run out of provisions.
Toilets and showers are fairly basic and a little grubby/mouldy in places. Washing up area very basic, with 2 sinks in a dark, dirty indoor room that has so much more potential. Showers are £1. 50/token.
If you don't mind back to basics camping and can deal with a bit of grubbiness this is a lovely area of the countryside in which to base yourself.

Great campsite with the most loveliest owners. Been camping many times and by far the friendliest and most helpful.
The site itself was so well maintained and a great walking area for dogs. Nice walk to local pub.
The shower and toilets spotless. Had a guided tour of the B&B rooms they are lovely all very personalised and with lovely detail.
The only thing I was surprised at was it wasn’t fully booked. It has loads of trees for shade. Picnic benches all over.
Would 100% recommend and would definitely return. A truly lovely camping experience. Outstanding

This campsite is in a beautiful setting and we stayed without electrics.
It is quite lively so we were glad to be away from the main electric area.
Dogs from a neighbouring tent barked a lot so next time we'd choose a site that didn't allow animals.
Toilets kept clean etc. We didn't pay for showers as for 4 of us that would have considerably increased the cost as the tokens only last for 4 mins.
Must be nice for people though as there's never a ling wait for a shower!
