What a fantastic site - excellent if you want a quiet time. Due to the 2 streams either side of the site, children are not allowed.
If you have dog there is good area for walking next to the river.
Facilities immaculate and staff could not be more helpful.
Pub outside the gate (check opening days) and also bus stop taking you as far as Minehead.
I can't say anything against this site

This is a very quiet location in the beautiful Somerset countryside.
The site is easy to find and very clean and well managed.
It has pretty much everything you would want with a local pub, walks from the site and loads of places to visit nearby.
Toilets and washing facilities immaculate.

After years of frequent camping trips all around the UK, this site is the closest to perfect we've ever found. A warm welcome, with lots if info and even the offer of a tea or coffee. Never had that before!
The site really does have the WOW factor, with it's bubbling mill stream and river, quirky ducks, regular birdlife visitors and the best dogw alk we've found (It also doubles as a perfectly peaceful place to sit on a bench, Riverside, with a glass of wine and a book!
The shop stocks most of what you'd need in a camping 'emergency'. (I saw a bloke coming from the shop with a dustpan and brush in one hand and a banana in the other! 🤔😆)
Facilities are modern, clean and well maintained. No push button showers here. You are trusted with an *actual* real shower, powerful and with temperature controls!
There's a in nearby pub but we preferred going into Dulverton, a short drive away to The Copper Kettle cafe for eats - their garden is lovely, with stunning views. We had a lovely breakfast there.
There is a lovely local deli there too, with fresh bread and baked treats which we enjoyed back at the site.
We will definitely return to this superb site, if we are in Somerset!

Apart from its Fantastic a site for adults only the staff a great and have time to help you what ever.
Toilets and washrooms are immaculately clean the pitches are clearly marked and very well kept.
The shop well it has more than some shops a very good choice.
I will definitely return to this site thank you to the owner Tonia Matthews.

Have always praised this site in the past as it was our favourite. The grounds are still well tended, the toilets and showers are immaculate but after over 15 years this last visit has soured our opinion. I had a nasty epileptic fit on 3rd night that left me partially paralysed. Husband had to quickly pack up and went to inform the manager that we had to leave earlier than intended due to my health. He said she showed no real concern other than we would not get a refund for the 11 nights I had already paid for, we weren't expecting a full refund but something as a goodwill gesture for a loyal customer would have been nice.

A return visit after some years.
Several improvements and it was immaculately kept.
The extended dog walking area up to the pretty watery grotto was delightful.
The welcome was effusive and we just managed to access their little shop before it closed at 1730. ( It was late season)
Plenty of space and options to pitch. We camped right on the Riverbank hearing the burble of the stream and watching the dippers dart.
Toilet facilities were luxurious but subject to COVID conditions.
The biggest issue was not of the campsites' doing. The pub was Closed! ( Staffing issues. )
The sites location is quite isolated from civilization and steep access on foot (or indeed vehicular) limits options for walks.

We loved the site, our tent was by the river and it was very peaceful.
The site is very well maintained, toilets and showers are spotless.
Other campers were quiet and considerate. Great location.

Things we like: pitches are good size, the landscape, the dog walking area, the benches scattered around, the dragon in the stream, no kids, free WiFi and TV cable thingy.
Things we don't like: the high price for the pitch (over 30 quid), the signs everywhere, impersonal customer service, the lawnmower noise (every day for at least an hour), the road noise, the poorly stocked camp shop (no fresh sausages, no breakfast pastries, no finger buns, no tea towels, no foot pumps), just stuff you'd expect from a campsite shop, no visit from the chip van, queuing for showers and toilets.
The site is running at full capacity (50 pitches x £32pn), yet still having very strict covid restrictions (2 showers and 2 toilets). Shouldn't the capacity reflect the facilities available?

Management response: We are sorry you did not enjoy your visit, and quoted a number of facts which are not correct.
The price for your pitch, including electric hook-up, a large tent, TV socket and cable, one dog, and wifi, for 7 nights in high season should have been £189. This is an average of £27.00 per night (not £32.00) and you will find very few other 5 star campsites that charge less.
The lawnmower takes about three minutes to cut one pitch, and we cut the pitches after they have been used – about 6 grass pitches per day. There is an ’hours of use’ log on the machine which confirms this. No doubt when you arrived you appreciated being able to have a pitch on which the grass had been cut. Did you look at the state of the grass when you left after your 7 nights? It would have been yellow and long around the edges: quite unacceptable for the next arrival.
We also dislike having too many signs, but our Covid pandemic precautions dictate otherwise. We make no apology for retaining many covid precautions on the campsite, and the vast majority of our guests agree. We have limited our facilities to 5 showers, 5 toilets and 2 urinals (not 2 showers and 2 toilets), whilst most of our guests have caravans or motorhomes with the option of using their own facilities.
For a campsite of our size we cannot have a shop that resembles a departmental store and the Exmoor National Park Authority would not allow it. As you say it has ‘just stuff you’d expect from a campsite shop’. Our aim is to be able to supply local food, alcohol , and camping accessories that are most in demand, and all at sensible prices. |
