I last camped as a teenager and my wife had never had the experience beyond the tent in the back garden as a kid.  My kids (8 and 13) too, had their first taste.  We will all be back and doing it again, although admittedly we had the advantage of perfect warm sunny weather for our first few days away.

The site is flat and stone free.  We chose the pitches by the lake side.  The facilities were nipping clean (shower 20p for six minutes) and a short walk away.  Ullswater itself was a short walk from the tent (2 mins) as was the camp shop and clubhouse.  We didn't use the clubhouse but had a shifty inside and it looked well set out and organised - which was our general impression of the whole site.  A lot of activity from staff cleaning the area and maintaining it.

Camp store was well stocked and prices didn't seem to be too inflationary for a captive audience.

A nice beck runs through parts of the site so the kids can play and fish in it.  Pony trecking available from the site which our two did and we walked along side with the dog.  At £20 each for an hour it wasn't something we will do every time we stay there!  But I don't know that that is something to do with the site itself - in its defence the pony trecking was as well organised as the rest of the site.

A good policy, without being heavy handed, of asking everyone to pipe down by midnight.  This was policed as there was a chap who asked a nearby tent to pipe down at 12 midnight.  Makes it sound like a noisy site, but it wasn't.

Pooley Bridge itself was only a short walk of 15 minutes (at childs pace) away by the lakeside.  We had our border terrier with us and all of the pubs were dog friendly with a good range of real ale and food available.

We will certainly be back.

Just back from a weeks stay with the kids, the site was very spacious, unfortunately if you have electric the size of pitch can be very limited.  The shop was fantastic very well stocked with food and camping equipment, the play park was brilliant kids spend most of there time there especially as the weather was terrific.
Shower/Toilet block was good even though it was 20p for 6 mins but they were warm and clean.  The only few things that didn't impress me was the washing amenities for the dishes as there was only 3 sinks and they were based up at the top of the park a fair bit to walk if you were on the bottom site.
The club also wasn't very impressive for the size of the site as it was pretty small and cramped especially if they where having a show on.  There was a small games room with a few machines etc and the take away was good and so was the times they were open ideal if the kids got a bit hungry later at night.  Overall it was a good holiday and would consider going back.

Having just returned from a long weekend at park foot I would recommend this site, this is however our first experience with camping and not really experienced enough to make judgment's.

The location of the site was beautiful we had our tent pitched beside the lake and couldn't of wished for a more perfect spot. We did find the camp site a little over crowded and noisy last thing at night and we seemed to be pitched next to very early risers at 7am!

We were a little horrified to find some campers with quad bikes riding these machines around the site when there was many children playing close by, however these individuals disappeared as fast as they arrived and we presumed they had been kicked out .

The site shop was always fully stocked however we found certain items well over priced, fresh baked products were always gone within the first hour of shop opening.

Sites showers were 20p for 6mins, toilet blocks were always full of teenagers morning and night, to which I felt a little uncomfortable with my two 7 year old trying to wash. The weekend we were there they had heavy rain and due to this the toilets and shower blocks were very muddy.

Other then this we had a very nice weekend, this is the only site I have been to and I'm sure I will experience worse sites.

Just spent a long weekend here and can honestly say its one of the best I have visited. Took my 12yo son with me, who loved the kid's club activities on offer each day (football, archery, tennis etc.).
The site has a well stocked shop & the showers/toilets are 1st rate. The site is within walking distance of the local village & the staff were friendly & extremely helpful. Would recommend this site to anyone & I intend to return next year with all the family for a longer stay.

I stayed here with my boyfriend for a few days and although it was busy at the weekend, it was a lot quieter during the week.  It does get rather packed, but if you don't mind that, its a great site.  There was a shop open all day and the takeaway was handy as we ran out of gas on our last night.  There is a bar/games room/restaurant which is a good size and great for all ages.  There is a play area for the kids and a very high quality toilet/shower block.
The surrounding area is beautiful as always, you can see the lake from the lower field and has access to the lake.  There are one or two pubs around, but apart from the horse riding on site, there isn't much else.  Although the lake is amazing, again, there isn't much else to it.  Short drives out take you to some great walks and hikes.

Fisherground Campsite - Eskdale

Nestling in the beautiful Eskdale Valley close to Scafell, England's highest mountain and Wastwater, this site is a children's paradise in the heart of the Lake District. The first thing that meets you on arrival is the pond, fed by a stream and usually full of children paddling and playing on tyre rafts. The playground has zip wires, climbing frames, tyre rope-swings and adventure courses.

Grass pitches (some with EHU) for tents, motorhomes, VW-sized campervans (no caravans). Refurbished toilets, showers and laundry. Peace is the watchword on the campsite - catering mainly for families and couples with silence after 10.30pm. Don't forget your marshmallows - campfires are allowed in selected areas. Nearby shop and pub. And there's an added extra: the site sits along the route of the Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway line, with it's own station. Choo Choo! Find out more here

Fantastic site, we arrived in torrential rain and it stayed that way all night. However, the 12 children had a fab time playing in the stream, playground and spending their pocket at the very well stocked and friendly on site shop. The shower/toilet block is the best we have come across, 20p for 6mins in the shower and free power for your hairdryer! The club was very family friendly, great music for the children to dance too. All in all a well run, clean, modern site with every facility you could wish for.
Recommend without hesitation.

Visited the site for a weekend in June of this year. Excellent well ran site split into two separate areas. The bottom field (over the road) is for tents and the top area for caravans and tourers.
cant really comment on top site as was staying on bottom field, but it appeared a little crowded and most tents appeared to be pitched on slopes!
Take away on top site also which is handy if arriving a little later than expected On the bottom field is a very good clean and spacious shower/toilet block etc (20p for showers which lasts 6 minutes)
plenty space for washing dishes etc. Pitch sizes were ample, we had two 12 man tents and still plenty of room between pitches.

Excellent access to lakeside walks and walks around barton fell.
great walk down into howtown then get the ferry back up to pooley bridge or over to glenn ridding. Midges were a problem so make sure got pletny of jungle formula or insect burner oil lamp things.

Oh, great shop on site which was very well stocked with everything from food to toys, boats, canoes, clothes camping gear. Great time, def go back in future

We arrived on site midweek. First impressions were fantastic. The site was relativley quiet and we had very good choice of pitches. We have just been introduced to camping and have a three man dome tent. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The facilities are excellent. A well stocked shop that sells absolutely everything, a restaurant and clubhouse which although we did not visit always looked very busy. We did try the take away on our last night which was great. The toilet block and washing facilities were all very clean and well maintained. 20p gets you 6 Min's of shower which is more than ample. There are two play areas and a steam runs through the middle of the site. Ideal for children. All in all a fantastic stay would definitely recommend. Cant wait for a return visit.

Just spent 4 days at Park foot, this is a great site to stop and use as a base to explore the Ullswater area.
We had an EHU on a pitch near the entrance with a view over the lake. The site is very well kept and staff are all helpful and friendly the on site shop is well stocked and not too pricey.
We stopped the same weekend as a group of "Rockabilly's" were there to see a group in the club, I loved all the cars etc .
There a couple of play areas for kids which are well equipped.
The toilets and shower block was spotless, our only gripe would be there is only 1 block (although large) and its a fair walk if you are on the edge of the camp, and there was only 3 sink in the wash area for a camp this size there needs to be more.
There's a lovely walk through Airbeck field which takes you along the lake and into Pooley Bridge village , there's a few shops and 3 pubs we had a meal in The Sun which we would recommend.
The only thing that spoilt our weekend was very loud music on the Sat night by a group in one of the other fields (not the rockabilly's) they started at 3am when the security had gone home.
Apart from that we will return to Park foot in the future as it is a very good site.

This was our first "long haul" caravan trip (from Devon), and we had booked for a week at Park Foot. The site staff were very pleasant and helpful, the site clean and tidy with just about every facility you could think of apart from a pool. The standard of cleanliness throughout the site was excellent. There is a well stocked shop on site. The pitches are a good size, with plenty of hedges and trees which make it quite sheltered even during half a gale of wind. Near the site are the lake steamers, hire boats and there is access to the open moorland at the top of the site. The one huge toilet and shower block is right in the middle of the site, and is quite a walk from some of the pitches (showers on 20p meters!). It was quiet during the week, but got a bit busy on friday night with the arrival of the weekenders. Judging by the huge size of the site mid-summer weekends must stretch the facilities to the full. Pooley Bridge is the nearest village (1 mile) with pubs, shops, tearooms etc. Nearest big town with supermarkets is Penrith, about 5 miles. Easy access to all of the lakes from this site, and not far to Hadrian's wall. The road past the site entrance leads to Martindale, and it's well worth the few miles drive - take your camera - the views along Ullswater are fabulous.
A word of warning - take along every conceivable mozzie repellent that you can lay your hands on, and make sure the mesh screens on your tent or caravan are in good order!

Visited this site several times as it's a great site & will definitely be going back again. Lots of showers,20p for 6 minutes. Good, well stocked shop, club house & a take away which serves great food(gets busy at times though) Has several fields, of ones we've stayed on, there's one on a slope which has a great view (stayed in this one several times), one at the bottom close to the dog walking area, which was also really nice although the view wasn't as good & a field next to the lake which is usually busy, but also nice.

There's a play area for the kids & you can hire bikes from the site.
great site.

Myself and my husband visited the site for a few days away quiet time just the two of us in our little three man tent. As we are fairly new to camping we were a bit apprehensive about where to go. Luckily the weather was perfect. On arrival we were greeted by very friendly staff. First impressions were fantastic. We booked in mid week and expected it to be a lot busier. However we were offered anywhere of two fields. We drove around both and ended up at the top of the field nearest to the amenities. The view was out of this world. It was perfect and only two tents either side of us with at least 2-3 pitches in between. I would recommend arrival mid week as Fridays & Saturdays get busy. The site has everything. There is a lovely little stream that runs through the middle ideal for children with fishing nets to play. There are two children's play areas, pony trekking on site, a shop that sold absolutely everything you could wish for and very reasonable. There is also a club house with entertainment although we did not visit it during our stay it looked very nice. We did sample the take away. The menu was basic but fair. They sold burgers, chips pizza ect The toilets were very spacious and clean and 20p gets you 6mins of shower not too hot and not too cold. This site is one of the best we have visited and I would highly recommend a visit.

We stayed here at the BH weekend. This site has lovely views and the walks around the lake were fantastic - even in the rain. We were a good 10 minutes from the toilet block which was hard with a 5 and a 3 year old who constantly needed the toilet. We didnt use the clubhouse for entertainment but it looked very very busy. All of the staff on site were very friendly and helpful and security was often seen at night patrolling. The playpark was a bit old for the 3 year old but she loved splashing in the little stream. Overall, I would go again but would request nearer the toilet block!

Park Foot was an excellent site. The staff were all very friendly, polite and helpful. Even helping me out when I had a flat battery! There's a stream running straight through the middle which the kids loved playing in. Although they couldn't quite keep the water from going into their wellies! The play parks are excellent with climbing walls and tyre swings. Just a few minutes walk from Lake Ullswater and boats for hire - and just a couple minutes from the ferry launch. There's pony trekking there too which hopefully we'll try next time.
Kids loved it so much - even though it was raining - so we booked to go for a week in July. Where I'm hoping for a little less rain! Great site - Mark Darch.

We have just returned from a weekend camping on this site along with another family. We had 1 x coleman Galieo L tent and a small family tent (4 person). We arrived at 6pm friday evening, the reception was very busy but very friendly helpful staff. We were on the main field and got two very spacious pitches on flat ground. Bins and water were close by.
Toilets were a bit of a walk but it all adds to the adventure. There was no over noisy campers (other than the usual family environment noise). The kids enjoyed the park and space around us. The showers were 20p for 6 minutes you can't grumble at that, they were warm and clean with no big queues.
The prices in the club house were reasonable although we didn't eat there. The kids were entertained by the games room and disco. The camp site shop had everything you could ask for. A very enjoyable trip and site will defenitely go back. Good value for money and plenty to do. Well worth the stay.
